posted a message on Mob farms not giving xp

Do you have any plugin on your server or is it a vanilla server.jar from Mojang? You can limit the spawn of mobs both naturally and from spawners with plugins.

posted a message on Totem or Shield?

Also a shield it's so much more useful in an UHC if your time is limited and your chance of getting a totem is very low. When you can't regenerate hearts, blocking skeleton arrows and creper explosions is so much useful.

posted a message on Does protection enchantment reduce potion damage?

Yes, the first potion is to eat away saturation. I'm supposing that it can be difficult to eat in combat (non really a pvp player, so I may be mistaken)

posted a message on Does protection enchantment reduce potion damage?

On the wiki it says that the Protection and Resistance effects decrease the Harming effect which is what you can use with the potion of damage. I would rather splash a potion of poison beforehand and the go for harming.

Also some potion-tipped arrows would make the difference, delivering the effects from afar. The problem with such arrows is the afaik they need a lingering potion to craft, and so they require dragon breath which is not easily collected for mass production.

Plus, with a raid farm you can easily get hundreds of totems.

And that's what I said: “Problem here is that totems weren't supposed to be renewable, so they of course are more powerful than shields”.

posted a message on Minecraft server hosted from computer can connect locally only

Does the server runs finely if you connect from a client on the same network using the private ip?

Is the server private ip static, either by configuring it in the OS or by assigning a static IP on the DHCP server?

Did you check if the server public ip changes from time to time (this is not going to be static unless you have a premium/business setup), and you always test with the current public ip?

Are you sure that you internet provider gives you a unique public ip which can be used to port-forward?

Once you find the current public ip, does https://canyouseeme.org see your forwarded port (remember, Minecraft uses 25565/tcp by default)? If this does not work, Minecraft won't as well.

posted a message on Optifine Not Running

It depends. I'm no expert in running jar files in windows, but they told me that to install optifine you must have a working java install (maybe a Java 1.8, also known as Java8) and doubleclick the jar.

posted a message on State engine in incorrect state. (CRASH LOG)

It seems a .json file (configuration) has been truncated to zero lenght, the log unfortunately don't say the file name... so check for files with 0 bytes and see if you can recover the file from a newer install of the modpack elsewhere (or maybe directly from the modpack archive file).

If you have upgraded from a previous version, keep in mind that 1.13.xx has different requirements, expecially you must start it with 2GB of Java Heap memory (-Xmx 2G) minimum.

posted a message on Totem or Shield?

As far as I know you can enchant a shield with mending and unbreaking if durability is an issue.

Problem here is that totems weren't supposed to be renewable, so they of course are more powerful than shields ;)

posted a message on Why smokers suck.

Smokers do not suck, simply they aren't probably as useful as their ore counterpart, the blast furnace.

I usually begin with some plain furnaces, then I upgrade to an automatic (cart-based) furnace, maybe just 8 to keep the rail and redstone just simple). Way past this point, if I have to smelt a lot of ores (it will be the case specifically in 1.17 where fortune will affect ores), I would build the same auto-furnace but with blast ones.

The plain auto-furnace is good because it can also cook clay and stone for builds, while smokers can't: if your furnace is large enough the automation will compensate the slower speed.

Of course no automation is possibile with campfires (you can put a 9x9 hopper platform under a campfire to collect food, but that's all you get, in exchange for a significant amount of iron).

posted a message on Minecraft launcher refusing to launch

Also check if your username contains non-ascii characters which may crash Minecraft due to it's poor handling, in this case you can move the .minecraft directory in the launcher [here is some ref. but not for the launcher: https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/.minecraft ]
