posted a message on Alpine Meadow biome: Rare biome that occurs in Extreme Hills

Extreme Hills indeed look cool, but they are just that - hills. Such hills simply get boring after a while - there is very few flat places to build on and admire the scenery. This biome offers a flat place to build, a pop of color to the drab blue-green of the mountains and possible Villages hidden within the treacherous slopes.

    Features

The main feature of the Alpine Meadow biome is the sheer amount of flowers. Each Grass block exposed to air has a 98% chance of spawning a random 1-block high flower, a 1% chance of having a Spruce tree, and a 1% chance of spawning Tall Grass. The other main feature is the flatness of the Meadow: The terrain is restricted to generate at bands of height 81-83, 115-117, 156-159, and 200-203, depending on the average height of the biome. This restriction applies even to the AMPLIFIED generation option, much like Swamps. Lastly, the size of this rare biome is roughly the same as Flower Forests: roughly 200 square meters in area(?).

    Generated Structures

The flatness of the Alpine Biome serves as a valid candidate for Villages to generate in this biome. The main material for these Villages is Spruce, unlike the regular Oak wood used for the villages. They have the same characteristics as the other Villages.

posted a message on 4754205716668298292: The seed that will tick almost everyone's boxes

I found this seed with Amidst a while back, but today I decided to take a good look at it... and I was quite shocked. The main attraction of the seed is the Stronghold 280 blocks from spawn, which has direct cave access (No need to dig). It's not the biggest stronghold, but it is 95% intact, which is great for those wanting to develop the Stronghold into a personal base. The Extreme Hills that overlook the Village and Stronghold contain gorgeous stacked terrain, making the perfect setting for fantasy/medieval RP maps. The only flaw in this gorgeous map is the free loot, AFAIK. Here's a summary of the good bits:

    Spawn: 256, 256

    Village 1: 176, 256

Loot: 4 Sapling, 2 Iron Ingot

    Stronghold: 448, 432

Features: Better than 95% structural integrity, Library
Loot: 1 Ender Pearl, 1 Iron Ingot, 16 Paper, 9 Books

    Village 2: 576, 512

    No loot

    Extra Stuff:

    Witch Huts: 688, 864/752, -352
    Nearest Desert Temple: -816,-1472
    Nearest Jungle Temple: 1552, -4528

posted a message on Two Mushroom Islands in close proximity: 9204992561813371922

The seed: "9204992561813371922" with no quotes will spawn two mushroom islands in close proximity to each other on 1.8.4. Including these, here are some other points of interest within 1000 blocks:

    Ice Plains Spikes: -637, 315

    Flower Forest: -400, -900

    First Island: 768, -756. There is a Stronghold here at 592, -672

Second Island: 1536, -800. A Forest biome is connected here at 1326, -650

    Have fun with your Shrooms!

posted a message on Mount and Blade style combat for 1.9

A lot of people have been making suggestions on how combat should be handled for 1.9; here, I will offer my two cents on the subject. This suggestion will emphasize a new combat system, as well as new weapons to reinforce the new combat engine.

    The Combat

As the title says, the suggestion will be for a Mount and Blade style of combat - timing and executing precision attacks to add a method to the madness that is Minecraft Combat. If you are familiar with the mechanics of Mount and Blade, feel free to skip this section, otherwise, read on...

The combat system I devised is intended to skill-index swordplay as a whole - which is what Mojang intends. Here is how it works:

When you attack, currently you click and do damage. With the new system, combat will involve swinging your mouse in a certain direction and holding the Attack button. This will "ready" an attack from that direction. Releasing the mouse executes the attack. Generally, there are 3 different attacks you can use.

-Sideswipe: Moving the mouse left or right will allow you to prepare this attack. This is the standard attack, and will do regular damage. If you alternate between left and right strikes, you will start a Combo; subsequent attacks afterward will inflict critical hits.
-Overhead: Executed by an upward mouse swing, this attack will replace the current "jump-crit" system, and will do the same damage as such. Executing this during a combo will grant twice the bonus damage(!)
-Stab: Moving the mouse down lets you use this attack. This will inflict -2 damage, but will ignore 25% of the target's armor, making this attack useful against armored opponents. During a Combo, the armor penetration becomes 50%; it becomes 75% after an Overhead and during a Combo. However, Stabs are only available on Swords, Greatswords, and Morningstars. This makes the [sideswipe-sideswipe-overhead-stab] combo to deal the most damage in the least strikes.

Blocking will also be given the same treatment as fighting with swords; you are able to block in multiple directions. In order to block effectively, however, you need to match the direction of your block with the direction of the attacker (up vs. up, left vs. left, etc.) Matching successfully will negate all of the damage and break the opponent's Combo. An ineffective Block, however will punish you with an unpreventable 1 Heart of damage. In addition, Arrows, Unarmed attacks, and Falling will no longer be mitigated by Blocking, with the former two counting as ineffective Blocks. Lastly, if you have an Attack prepared, you can Block to cancel the readied Attack. This can be used to pull a Feint and attack in another direction in the hope of bonus damage.

    The Weapons

This suggestion also includes new Weapons to bring more life into Minecraft combat. To get these new weapons, all that is needed is to take any of your Stone or better tools (or sword) and add 4 more of that resource, in a compass styled crafting recipe. Durability will transfer over to the new weapon, but enchantments will not. Here are the new weapons:

    Greatsword

Greatswords are a step up from Swords, and act as the artillery of Minecraft Combat. They can only attack half as fast as normal swords, but gains +2 damage over the equivalent Sword, as well as a 50% critical damage bonus. This allows even a Stone Greatsword, when wielded with skill, to be able to stand on even ground with a Diamond armored opponent. To add to the intimidation factor, the Greatsword will use a 32x32 sprite, resulting in a sword that is double the length (I can be Cloud Strife!).

    Morningstar

Despite the innocent name, the Morningstar is basically a metal ball with spikes on it, and a handle. It is the upgraded version of the Pickaxe, trading its mining ability for +2 attack power (same with all advanced weapons) and the ability to have a constant 25% armor penetration on all strikes. This makes the Morningstar great for facing single, heavily armored opponents, but the lack of critical damage buffs makes this thing not as menacing as the Greatsword in most occasions

    Battle Axe

OK, we all knew this was coming. This upgraded Axe can not only still chop trees down, it also gains +2 Attack and the near-fatal Wound debuff, which triggers on Side-Swipes and Overheads. The Wound debuff blocks all forms of healing - natural regen, potions, you name it. Not even the Notch Apple can remedy the damage from a Battle Axe. You can now finally be a dwarf, digging a hole.

    Scythe

Scythes are upgraded versions of the Hoe. This upgrade adds +2/4/6 Attack Power depending on tier, and the sideswipes of this weapon grant the ability to hit multiple enemies at once, making the Scythe great for when you are outnumbered. It doesn't perform well against single targets however, due to the low base damage.

That's all for now, what do you think?

posted a message on Independent Sun and Moon (Solar eclipse! Moonless nights!)

According to the Minecraft Wiki, Daytime lasts 10 minutes, and Night lasts 7 minutes, with two 1 1/2 minute transition periods. Physics wise, this should not make sense, as the Sun and Moon are always opposite each other. This suggestion aims to fix this by giving the Sun and Moon different speeds:

The Sun, currently, takes 20 minutes for a full cycle. This will remain unchanged. However, the Moon will gain a speed boost, taking 18 minutes for a full cycle. This small change opens up the possibility for moonless nights and solar eclipses; eventually, the Moon will catch up to the Sun and cause both to end up visible in the day/no moon at night. In addition, this will cause every 18th dawn to have the Sun and Moon overlap, creating an eclipse.

posted a message on The Forest Temple
Lately, the dev team appears oriented towards generated structures, as shown by the recent Ocean Monument. Perhaps our Forests could use a temple as well? Here's an idea I had for such a structure:

This here is the Forest Temple, which will spawn with a 5% chance in the following biomes of sufficient size:
    • Flower Forest
    • Mega Spruce Taiga
    • Dark Forest
In addition, this structure cannot generate within 1500 blocks from spawn, making it quite a trek to find one. This makes for an extremely rare structure, and for a good reason:

    The Materials

The structure is composed almost entirely (save for the stained glass and decorations) of a new type of wood: Everwood. It takes the appearance of Spruce Logs and Dark Oak planks - however, they will have a subtle "Enchanted" sheen over it, even the leaves. It has two unique properties:

    • Unlike all the other wood types, Everwood is as tough as Obsidian, requiring a Diamond Axe to mine (10 seconds). It also poses the same blast resistance as Obsidian, allowing you to have nice wooden structures that are also blast resistant.
    • It cannot catch on fire. This makes it safe to have an open fire pit in your base.
Surely, the thought of ultra-tough wood would cause people to actively seek out these structures. Let's take a look inside, and see what we can expect to find!

The main hallway when you first enter the temple. There are 5 rooms to explore; this is the first.

The room on the left takes the appearance of some form of church service, which gives the impression of some sort of cult being here.

The room on the right is growing an Everwood Tree. This is the appearance that these trees will take when you grow your own (The leaves are still indestructible). Due to the low Leaf Block count on these trees and their thick trunks, sapling and apple drop rates are much higher, yielding a fantastic food source!

The main treasure room. Here is what you can expect to find:

In the main treasure rooms, natural items, such as various seeds, saplings, and food items make an appearance. Rarely, Iron Ingots and Gold Ingots can appear.

If you have sharp enough eyes, you will notice that the vines can be used to climb the treasure room...

...and find a secret area at the top! This treasure room has slightly better loot - a few examples are fully prepared food items, such as soup, as well as wooden tools with extremely powerful enchantments, for example.
There is also a second secret area, covered by Everwood:

This room has the same loot table as the Pyramids - representing some sort of burial ground. However, entry to any of the treasure down there requires a Diamond Axe, from any angle (even below!)

    Well? What do you think?

    CHANGELOG

    1.0: Introduced

1.1: Changed Super Secret Loot table to have Pyramid loot table

1.2: Nerfed Everwood to behave like Obsidian, Main Treasure Room and Secret Treasure Room loot tables nerfed, Removed Everwood Axe.

While the suggestion itself is alright, you need to change the recipe. Your recipe (3 Wheat in a horizontal line) conflicts with the current recipe for Bread.

posted a message on Mercury: the most bizzare liquid known to Minecraft!
    Quote from Katashan

Just to let you know, In real life, mercury doesn't behave like that at all.

Using a realism argument for a video game is absurd.

As for the suggestion... I have one question: How do boats interact with Mercury? It would be funny if people used Mercury to easily create floating highways.
