I feel that Minecraft should take some lessons from Mount and Blade for the Combat Update. For those not in the know, a short explanation:
Basically, you have 4 attacks: two side-swipes, an overhead, and a stab. Each of these are activated by attacking while moving the mouse a certain direction (left for starboard slice, up for overhead, etc.) Blocking will also follow the new system: 4 different blocks for each attacking direction. Shields will also need to be implemented, and they should be able to block attacks from any direction. However, blocking with a sword incurs no penalty, while shields take damage. Regardless, new weapons and improved tools will need to be implemented to counter turtling strategies with Shields. For starters, we can have the Axe fill the role of defense busting, allowing them to deal 5x durability damage to shields, while removing the x2 penalty for combat.
For new weapons, the Spear, Greatsword, and Glaive will be the candidates for new weapons. The Spear can serve as a hard-counter to mounted and rushing enemies - it's boosted attack range will allow a single hit to stop anyone dead in its tracks without hope of returning the favor, and you can shield wall to have the best possible defense. The sweeping attacks and terrifying overhead swings of the Greatsword can wipe out entire waves of enemies or cleave straight through an opponent's armor, respectively, but will be slow to swing, easily blocked, and prevents you from using a shield. The Glaive is an upgraded version of the Spear that can pull off the same feats of a Greatsword - faster, but has the same two-handed limitation, as well as being the most expensive of the bunch. Those are my two cents

Such island groupings you asked for are within 1000 blocks to the left and right of 0,0. The spawn is within a crescent-moon-like island with Flower Forests and Sunflower Plains. In addition, 700 blocks north is an Ice Spikes Biome right at the coastline! I plan to use that as a Survival map. I'll edit this with more discoveries.
EDIT: I spawned on a Forest 400 blocks south of the atoll, just to warn you.
Discoveries:
There is an Ocean Monument just west of the atoll.
There is a large cave system at spawn (unexplored)

I just recently finished an impressive build on a Superflat map, and I wanted to recreate it in a Survival map as a challenge. Due to the materials needed, I'm in need of particular biomes close to spawn so I can recreate the work.

Base Damage: The base damage of the Crossbow should be around 16 Damage (8 hearts) to make it worth choosing over the Bow.
Bleed: I don't think that Bleed would be suited for a somewhat non-violent game such as this. Perhaps you can use a Fermented Spider Eye with the Crossbow Bolt to get a Poisoned Bolt? Does the same job as Bleed without adding anything drastic, just a new item.
Durability: As a Bow alternative, the Crossbow should boast the same durability.
Combat: Using the crafting system really is a bad idea for intense combat. How about this: Start loaded. Right-click to fire; you now have an Unloaded Crossbow. Then, just right-click again. You will be slowed for 3 seconds, then you have a loaded Crossbow (and 1 bolt spent).
Range: Max range should be 100 blocks.
Enchantments: The enchantments could use some changes:

I've been hard-pressed to find a decent Stronghold to set up an actual base (they are almost always riddled with holes from caves and ravines). Among all of the other Strongholds I've found with the seeds I used, they ended up either completely trashed, or too far away to be worth travelling to. Perhaps you can help me.

Hammers are weapons used to inflict Blunt damage. For all intents and purposes, Hammers are the same as swords. The difference occurs on a killing blow. "Defeating" an enemy with a hammer will knock the enemy unconscious - the target will not drop items or experience, and it will get back up after 20 seconds. To counterbalance this, Hammers will ignore the rating of the target's armor by a default factor of 15 i.e. Full diamond armor offers 80-15 = 65% protection against a hammer.
Here is the crafting recipe for a Hammer:
The iron ingots can be replaced by any applicable tool ore: Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold, and Diamond
As a ranged option, there are Throwing Hammers. Throwing Hammers have a range similar to a potion and similar damage to a 80% charged arrow. They can stack up to 8 times, and when a throwing hammer strikes an object, it drops as an item. Generally, throwing hammers have the durability of 25 times the tool tier; A Wood throwing hammer has 25 uses, a Stone Hammer has 50, etc.
Here is the crafting recipe for a Throwing Hammer:
What about Gold Hammers? While gold is not sharp nor is it durable, gold is much heavier than Iron. Thus, it would make sense for Gold Hammers and Gold Throwing Hammers to be the in-between for Iron and Diamond Hammers.
This can allow players to beat up problematic players as a form of jailing until the mods arrive. You can engage in friendly duels without worrying about the KeepInventory gamerule and the other guy stealing your stuff. The possibilities are endless!
EDIT: Welp, that was a big waste of my 500th post.

You really need to add detail to this post. What's most important now is to ask the question:
Remember that for next time.

Ever feel torn between Amplified Biomes and regular Biomes? This biome, called the Hollow, will be an ultra-rare biome that can occur beside an Extreme Hills+ Biome. The biome itself has a large sub-biome surrounding it, a Hollow Edge biome. These biomes have the forest cover of a regular forest, but always seems to just keep going up, gradually. Once you reach the top of a Hollow Edge Biome, the surface height levels out at around height 237 - 242, to leave height for trees. This marks the entrance to the Hollow Biome itself.
At this point, below the surface, Amplified-like cliffs and mountains will generate from bedrock to top. Lava does not spawn here either. Frequently, there are holes that you can use to get down into this biome (Bring some vines!).
In short: Think of the Amplified World generation - localized in one spot, stretching from bottom to top, and closed up inside a giant dome at least 10 blocks thick. This is the Hollow.

The force-field is almost exactly the same as placing a Water Bucket at your feet. The point of having the spell is that you can move freely and avoid Skeleton attacks. Are you going to say that Water Buckets are overpowered?
Usually, a mob will drop more that 1 object - By using a hostile mob-spawning Runestone, you can safely gain even more loot and experience from fighting mobs if you know what you are doing (The recipe to spawn a Creeper here requires 1 Gunpowder; a creeper usually drops 2). For passive mobs, this will allow players to repopulate an area they have over-killed in regards to animals.

It's not illegal to bump threads, however, it is illegal to excessively bump threads, am I right? Because threads here get bumped all the time...
Anyway, what would you like tweaked about the suggestion? You say it could use tweaks, but I don't know where to start.
