posted a message on Have you ever wanted to live in the country instead of city?
I've lived outside a small town and I've lived in Seattle, and there are things I like about each. In a small community I can carry my airsoft guns and gear from my house to my car without worrying about someone getting nervous and calling the cops. In the city, everything is close. I don't even need a car to get to raves and other exciting things. I think when I settle down I'll want a house outside the city. Plenty of elbow room, but close enough to commute.

I tend to have a bit of crossover between the gear I wear for airsoft and the everyday clothing I wear. So I wear things like a tactical ballcap (with an American flag patch):

And since it's been cold, I've been wearing a multi-wrap to keep my face and ears warm as well:

I usually wear a riggers belt or a rappel belt because I like how secure and adjustable they are. Never any need to cut extra notches in them and you can wear them as tight or as loose as you like:

With all the rain we've had recently I like to keep my feet dry. Danner makes the most comfortable and durable combat boots I've ever worn. The ones I have are steel-toed and waterproof:

But even so, boots are still boots and can easily give you blisters. So to minimize that I wear cushion sole socks:

As far as shoes go, I find that training shoes are the most comfortable out there. They have great arch support. I've got a pair of Nikes and a pair of Avias and I love them both. They're great if you're going to be on your feet for long periods of time.

Oh my god so many people are liars, I am 15 years of age and 5 foot 7 inches.

In such a trivial matter as stating one's age and height, there is no reason to be critical of peoples' answers. In a less trivial matter, there would be some merit to reserving judgement until evidence is presented. But in trivial cases evidence is not necessary because it doesn't matter.

I think OmegaLambda is typing a novel. It says that he's posting.

I have been known to. And I'm glad my advice was of some help. But you may want to keep the chattier comments to PMs and keep a thread to a single topic. The moderators tend to lock threads that get too chatty (besides the designated chat thread).

Now children, settle down. No need to fight. It's possible that the guy might not be interested in her for whatever reason, but no need to make it sound personal. And when you ask for advice you open yourself up to hearing things you might not want to hear, whether they're true or not. No need to get riled up about what someone said over the internet.

    Quote from Dewclaw83

You try forgetting someone you've got a crush on. Besides, I can't forget him. His locker is next to mine. :opblock:

If being indirect isn't giving you a clear yes or no, then be direct and ask him if he wants to go out with you. Ask with confidence, but expect him to say no. Hesitation usually means no. If you expect the worst, then anything better is a pleasant surprise. But until you know for sure whether he's interested there's no need to forget him. If he's not interested then you might as well find out sooner rather than later and spend the time pursuing someone else. Crushes come and go. I had scores of them in my day and only one was ever realized. And that wasn't until I was 19.

Get reacquainted with Mrs Palm and her five daughters.

Rosie Palm? I've been dating her steady for the last 8 years.

Jokes aside, maybe you should call her if you miss her so much. Three weeks really isn't long to wait. My (actual) girlfriend and I go to different schools in different cities, so we don't get to see each other very often. If you feel strongly for each other, then waiting isn't the end of the world. But if three weeks is enough to break you apart, then either you weren't right for each other or you still have some growing to do. Be careful to gauge her interest when you talk to her next. If you're more interested in her than she is in you, you risk smothering her and sabotaging the relationship.

posted a message on I need Help Understanding Something
Living animals tend to self-regulate their temperature. They experience discomfort when the ambient temperature is above or below their optimum zone and enters a zone of tolerance. They experience pain and death (and other symptoms as well) when the ambient temperature leaves a zone of tolerance and enters a zone of intolerance. Outside of their optimum temperature zone, it is difficult for the chemical reactions necessary to keep a creature alive to happen. Outside of their zones of tolerance, it is impossible.

On the level of thermodynamics, what is happening when it "feels cold" is that heat is leaving your body faster than you can produce it. As a natural defense against death, animals are hard-wired to avoid the feelings of excessive cold and warmth. The idea is to keep a buffer (the zones of tolerance) between the organism and death. Again, if your body temperature drops below a certain level, the chemical reactions within you cannot happen. Similarly, if your body temperature elevates above a certain level, it also prevents those reactions.

So when someone complains that "it's cold" their body is telling them that they need to start increasing the temperature of the substance directly in contact with their body. If they do not do this and continue to expose themselves to extreme temperatures they will function less efficiently, and if the temperature is extreme enough they could die. When their body tells them to start increasing the ambient temperature, they usually do this by trapping more heat that would otherwise be lost. The way they do this is by putting on more clothing.

As humans, we usually make the assumption that others are "like us" with respect to whatever we're thinking of at the time. So when someone feels cold, they expect others to feel cold also. When you wear shorts in winter, people are confused because they expect your perceptions to match their own. But perhaps your body produces more heat than theirs through a higher metabolic rate. Or perhaps your body is better at self-regulating its temperature. Or perhaps your nervous system is deficient in detecting ambient temperature. Any one of those factors could contribute to your lack of perception of cold when others perceive cold.

posted a message on What is your opinion on captilization?
Whether it's in-person or over the internet, I want to make myself look presentable and professional. I take the extra second to use proper capitalization and punctuation and check my posts for spelling and grammar mistakes. Anyone who doesn't do this just seems lazy or uneducated. If that's how they want to come across, that's their prerogative. I'll judge them as I see them while they judge me as they see me.

If you've tried to talk to him a few times and he doesn't seem interested, then he's either super shy or he's not interested. If you continue trying to start a conversation with him and he doesn't seem to want to talk to you, then it's time to find someone else to pursue.

Above & Beyond is my favorite group. A Thing Called Love is my favorite song by them. This remix is particularly good:
The drop at 1:15 is amazing. I had an eargasm when I heard it for the first time in their set while they were on tour in Seattle.

My advice would be to stay in-state. You generally get more financial aid and tuition is less. Pretty much any college these days offers a CS degree.

    Quote from Schmoople

If pizza is a vegetable, then all of a sudden I love vegetables.

Pizza is actually really good for you because it contains cooked tomatoes in the form of tomato sauce. Cooked tomatoes are even better for you than raw tomatoes, and they contain antioxidants and lots of good vitamins. For that reason, pizza is ranked by certain health experts as a "superfood," right up there with blueberries.
