Dwarf Fortress seem to have a pretty decent community. Even though it has many twisted and weird people in it, the general quality remains above the average. The reason for this is probably the total lack of 13 year old idiots and other common retards, thanks to the fact that Dwarf Fortress is a really hard game to learn and master. Its difficulty acts as a filter, keep all the nasties out and the more literal maniacs in.
EDIT:
Another GREAT community is the community of the game in my signature and avatar. Too bad it's almost dead by now
I really dont get why PC fans always get angry when an exclusive game goes to consoles.
Like with crysis 2 came out, Or civilization Revolution, They repeat the same 2 things
1) Pc games are for Hardcore gamers.
2) The series is dead now that its on console.
When a game branches off on to console, that means more players are able to enjoy the games too, Youre not " exclusive" and the game is not "Yours". Even if fortresscraft is not made by the same developer, it is of the same Niche/Genre of minecraft, And the more people who play minecraft like games: the better.
Its just insanely hipster, to think of yourselves as "Underground" because of your system.
Its almost like saying that i "Fight the machine" by using Macs instead of PCs
It's ironic that you brought up the Crysis example, seeing as it support the PC gamers' opinion.
Crysis 2 is a CoD clone with nanosuits. Although it does have a connection with the first game, the gameplay and general style are completely different.
Here, read this:
I’ve tried the demo, and I have to agree with the disappointed people. After enjoying warhead and the original, Crysis 2 feels empty and confining. I can definitely see where the CoD comparisons are coming from.
I am hardly surprised though. Crytek made it clear that they were not satisfied with the profit from the first game and its expansion. I assumed they knew that if they make a game which is so graphically advanced, most people could not play it, and sales would obviously be a little under the average. I guess that their marketing research team is just really stupid (and possibly Chinese). First game they were all like “we no maek monies? goddamn pirates, we release next game to console kiddies”. Then they were all like “make it call of dooty; them people with console liek the dooty!”
I’m sure PC sales will be low again and I’m sure it will be once again blamed on the pirates, and not on the fact that they did not bother to appeal to their original fanbase whatsoever.
Even on the console market the game isn’t going to be a great success. You can’t get many CoD fans to switch over to this game since the majority of the console owners believe that Crysis 1 sucked, and PC gamers don’t give a **** about it because it dumped everything they liked about the first game.
I don’t expect it will outright fail, but I do think they will barely produce a profit, considering the game’s high production cost. The console FPS crowd has proven it is not hungry for a new licensed product. If they called it Halo 4: Crysis Wars or Call of Duty: Crysis Company 2, then they would have had a better chance. Crysis 2, on its own, will always play second fiddle to those franchises which dominate console FPS market.
If it will fail I won’t shed any tears - they abandoned me and many other PC gamers. It’s hard to get a fanbase for a series going, and Crytek are getting rid of the few fans they had until now. There is an ever increasing glut of games available. If you manage to earn the respect of a few players, turning them into fans of your product, it’s best to try and figure out how to hold onto them and expand the above-mentioned fanbase, not to ignore it and start over.
Oh, i see what FortressCraft really is. It is a console port of Minecraft, and i don't like it.
As a loyal PC gamer, seeing one of the most awesome PC exclusives being ported to the consoles is just painful.
Yeah, this.
And also is that a game in your sig/avatar?
Here's what i wrote to someone else:
It's a little fun indie game called Knytt Stories. It comes with a full level editor, and most of its levels are made by players, not by the original developer.
Unfortunately, due to the game's old age (it was released back in 2006-2007), the community is almost dead by now (or at least it was last time i checked). You can still make levels and post them around the forums, and new levels are created from time to time, but don't expect much feedback.
The game's site + download: http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories

The level forums, download levels from here: http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?PHPS ... board=39.0

This is exactly the kind of fanboy-ism i was talking about earlier.

Common mistake. People sometimes even consider Flash as a media engine.

Indeed.
And also, the Minecraft community is filled with whiny aspies. Just go on any SMP sever and see for yourself.

Minecraft and TF2 both have one of the worst communities in the world :/

It's not totally DEAD, but yeah. It's pretty slow right now. With most of the community members gone, a post is being made once in 2-3 days.

I'll start.
