It turns out Mojang changed the URL for the Minecraft launcher, so Minecraft Portable was downloading the wrong (old) version. I've released 2.7.2, which changes the following:

    - Fixed launcher download
    - Fixed server download
    - Added code to remove 'Dropbox' folder that appears in 'mcp_data' when application is launched
    - Removed AutoLogin, as it no longer works with the newer launchers

Sorry the fix took so long. Download in the OP as usual.

So how do you increase the memory?

Set 'javaArgs' in config.ini to '-Xincgc -Xmx1024M'. You can replace 1024 with 2048 for 2GB, 4096 for 4GB, etc.

Errm.. surely you can do it with jquery.. you use that already.

You actually can't, surprisingly, since it's considered a security issue and as such the functionality isn't present in any browser but Internet Explorer.

Even so, I don't really see what purpose it would serve. The coordinates would change as you moved the mouse down to the text to click on it anyway.

Noticed a bug in the coordinates for mcmapdz. I'm using the -west switch so it orients the map so North is pointing up. The Z value incorrect and flipped from negitive to positive and vice versa.

    The map in question:

Thanks, fixed it. Turns out it was just a very small bug in the template file.

Can you make it so that the coordinate display can be clicked on, and it copies the values to clipboard in the format of x y z so command /tppos <x> <y> <z> is a lot quicker.

Unfortunately not, sorry, as copying to the clipboard would require an external Flash library. I'm trying to keep everything within HTML where possible.

Is there a way to add labels on an already rendered map?

You can do it manually like Koogle said, but there's not a way to do it automatically at the moment. It's a good idea though.

Hi there, thanks so much for this awesome app! I have a problem though, when I use the argument option in the config I get:

Error: Could not created the java virtual machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

The arguments Im trying to put in are:

    javaArgs = " -Xms512 -Xmx1024 "

if I remove the spaces between the quotes the program seems to remove them and then nothing at all happens. Not too sure how to use this as it doesnt seem to be documented?

Edit: Im using the normal Java for this and not a portable one and left the path as default, here is the log:

    Minecraft Portable 2.7

    - Using autologin data for username and password
    - Autologin server found: none

    Process finished.

The quotes aren't needed, so it's alright if Minecraft Portable removes them automatically. I think your issue is that you haven't specified what amount of memory you're giving it. You've said 1024, but 1024 what? You need to add 'M' to the end to denote megabytes, like this:
    -Xms512M -Xmx1024M

    I actually use this instead...
    -Xincgc -Xmx1024M

...but I'm not sure what the difference is.

Is it possible to use MC Patcher with Minecraft Portable? and if you can, how would I do it? if not, what can I use to patch Minecraft Portable so that I can use an HD Texture Pack? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Certainly! As I've mentioned in the OP, all you need to do is drag the .exe version of the patcher onto minecraftp.exe and it should direct it to the correct. If that fails, I believe MCPatcher also has the option to choose a custom Minecraft directory.

    Hi!

Im new to the forums, and was just wondering, would mods still work on this? Am I right in thinking that this works just like the minecraft launcher, but just loads the .minecraft from a different place?

    Thanks!

That's exactly right. Minecraft Portable just 'tricks' the Minecraft launcher into saving under a different directory.

    Quote from Splodger1

Can we get this to work with magic launcher?

I'm not entirely sure, but I wouldn't bet on it. It's designed to work exclusively with the original launcher and I don't know if it will function using anything else. Magic Launcher has a portable mode too, so you might consider using that as a replacement to Minecraft Portable, rather than a complement.

    Quote from Splodger1

And by the way, this is amazing.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the help, soccerguy3, but I managed to figure it out myself.

So without further ado, I present mcmapDZ 0.48. The long-requested coordinate feature has now been added thanks to the magic of basic high school algebra, and it should work flawlessly on all orientations. You can see a (very) small example here. As per the usual routine, the latest download can be found in the OP.

Is there a easy to upload site I can use just to quickly upload and share the render for a short time without having to use Dropbox or sign up for something? I just want to upload and go with the render. Another thing I could/would like to do is somehow have it so the render is saved as one solid image I could upload to Imgur or something and just share the link from there, is that possible?

Unfortunately, not that I know of. Saving it as a single PNG can be done using the '-savemap' command in the CLI or by ticking the 'Save untiled PNGs' checkbox in the GUI, but it almost ruins the point because you just get the same large file that mcmap outputs.

    Quote from kuboo99

Wow. This worked really well for my server (about a 1.2 GB map). When I just used the normal mcmap it worked but created images so massive that it would often crash the photo viewer. This method creates a much more manageable end product. Thank you for your work!

    No problem!

coordinate display would be a great update....

    Quote from soccerguy3

It would be great if the co-ordinates are displayed as well. A simple mouseover display in the corner of co-ordinates of where your
mouse is pointing. This will help in game to find an area you are viewing in a map.

    Thanks for your great program

    Quote from Koogle

I quote your post to bump this feature request again... NotTarts where are you ... :D

This is something that I always wanted to implement but I just don't have the skills to convert the pixel coordinates to map coordinates. All the information is there, but I can't figure out the math to do it.

Following the last part, the actual app works on my 64-bit mac. It should work on a 32-bit mac, the app is quite big (approx 96 MB), but most of that is wxPython for logging the actual output of minecraft (soon will have seprate versions) as I like that. Also this is the source, requires wxPython and I have included the other components you will need.

    Source: http://dl.dropbox.co...aftp_source.zip requires wxPython
    Binary: http://dl.dropbox.co.../minecraftp.zip

I can't thank you enough - this is absolutely fantastic. I've added a link to the OP and I've also sent you a PM with FTP details, which will allow you to update the redirect on my site.

Ok, I love the idea that you are getting with this but... Running Minecraft with Java Portable decreases the FPS by quite a large amount, Why?
1.) Because there a multiple components removed from java in the portable edition that stableize FPS in games.
2.) Because it has to run off of a flash drive. Running java from a flash drive can cause FPS decrease since the game has to read/write back and forth from a drive that may not have that high of Read/Write speeds.

Im not trying to say that it is a bad idea to make minecraft portable, but why not just use the host computers Java installation if it exists and then use the Java off of the flash drive if the host system does not contain Java? That is how I would do it :) I hope that my advice gives you some ideas on how to optimize it a bit

This is a good idea but unfortunately users can't always rely on Java being up-to-date on other PCs, hence why I've prioritised Java Portable. I haven't personally noticed any performance differences and I'm actually pretty surprised you have. Decent flash drives should actually be faster in many operations than most hard disks.

0.47 has been released! I'm still in the middle of a huge overhaul, but there were a few bugs that had to be fixed in 0.46 and I thought it might be better to release the fixes sooner rather than later :)

    Changes:
    - HDmake cache files are now by default stored in the same directory as mcmapDZ rather than the TEMP folder on the computer. This should alleviate some memory/disk space issues.
    - Added '-cache' switch to the CLI, essentially allows you to choose where mcmapDZ should store any temporary/cache files (from mcmap, HDmake, etc)
    - Fixed a bug in the template that caused labels to display incorrectly in any orientation other than east.
    - You can now add more than 15 labels in the GUI!
    - Updated to the latest version of mcmap. I'm not entirely sure what has changed, but you can check the mcmap thread for info.

I might've missed a few things, but hopefully this helps anyway. As always, you can find the download in the OP.

    Nice.

Just found the "labels.txt" file and will be adding the coordinates manually.

Wouldn't it be easier just having one column with the label name, instead of having all the columns? Just a wild suggestion. I have only been coding PHP, so I don't really know if it's an easy fix or not ;)

This is actually a very good idea, and not something I thought of. I will definitely do this, cheers :)

    Quote from Koogle

You could you add an option to show coordinates based on mouse location on the map, would be very helpful.

Yeah, this is something I want to do, but I really have no idea how it's done. It's going to be a requirement for maintaining the position when switching between orientations anyway, so I'll have to figure it out eventually.

    Quote from Dan_Fluffy

I just downloaded the latest version. I'd used mcmapDZ before the Anvil update, and it always worked fine for me, but now trying the new version, with no options other than day & night I got this error with the GUI:
Argument cannot be Nothing. Parameter name: file.

Then I tried it with the Command Prompt version, and every time it said:
Error: Given path does not contain a Minecraft world.

I'm using exactly the same path I used with the old version.

I really have no idea what's causing this, sorry. Can you try rendering your world just using mcmap?
