MLP's Fanbase is erractic, Unpredicable, tries too hard to spread itself all over the internet like a poorly made jam, and is incredibly annoying.
That's actually a complete fallacy. It's called the Toupée fallacy. I assume that since you're not interacting with bronies in a place where they congregate, the only bronies you've seen are the ones that go "LOOK PONES!" and derail the conversation. Thus you're saying "All bronies are annoying and try to force others to watch the show," when in fact you've probably interacted with many, many people who are bronies and never even known it. We're just huge, so you tend to run into a lot of the annoying, loud kind of bronies.
hey guys, I've watched the first few episodes of the show and I'm wondering if there's anything I need to know?
like if there's a point where it really gets good or if there's a point where it becomes really bad...
no spoilers please!
It depends on what you mean by "first few." The first two episodes are not really indicative of what the show is like. Anything after that is about what you get from a standard episode. If you want to watch them out of order, some really standout episodes inlcude "Winter Wrap-Up," "A Friend in Deed," "Party of One," and "Lesson Zero."
Sorry to interrupt but, I looked in the description of MERLIN. There was a town or city named Camerlot. It sounded familiar. Then I realized it sounded like Canterlot, from of course, MLP. Anyone got any comments?
Though Aaron explained it quite well, this is relevant.
Most pony cities are puns.
Canterlot - Camelot + Canter
Manehattan - Manhattan + Mane
Trottingham - Nottingham + Trot
Fillydelphia - Philadelphia + Filly
Baltimare - Baltimore + Mare
Las Pegasus - Las Vegas + Pegasus
Cloudsdale - Clydesdale + Cloud
The animation is among the best I've ever seen in a TV show. It's fluid, cute, consistent, and lively

Tara Strong
The writing is witty and excellent, filled with fun jokes aimed at older audiences
The characters are remarkably nuanced, with the prime example being Rarity. In any other children's show, she would be the bad guy. The pretty, successful, girly, prissy character? But it turns out she has her flaws, her character arcs, and more to her personality.
I'm afraid that may not be the best option in this situation. My relationship with her isn't exactly strong, and she tends to over-think things a lot. If I simply drop it and leave it, I'm afraid she would get the thought that I am an attention-hungry immature child, and that something is terribly wrong with me.
She might. For a bit. She'll try her "mom tricks" to get you to stop "vying for attention." She'll ignore your poniness, because you clearly just want attention from it. But that's the point. When she realizes you're still watching the show regardless, she'll realize there's a reason beyond "pay attention to me!" that you watch it.
As for what it might do to your relationship, this is only my recommendation if she's not directly confronting you about it. If she is, just keep explaining to her that you do like the show, and that there's nothing unusual going on with it. Be on your best behavior, and don't give her a reason to suspect something might be terribly wrong. She might never really accept it, but honestly, who cares? Either, she'll still love you, because you're her child, or she won't, in which case, she's not the kind of person whose opinion matters anyway. I don't know your mom, so I can't say for certain, but I really wouldn't worry about what she thinks right now.
Sorry to be totally off topic, but I could really use some help.
I recently told my parents that I am a Brony. They are both quite narrow-minded people, so they were quite perplexed, as one would expect. My mother asked a few questions, (the usual "are you gay?" and "why the hell?") and I had her watch and a few parts of the Party of One episode, yet she was still very confused. Being a 16 year-old boy, my mom thought it was quite an odd thing for me to be watching. I am terrible at explaining things, and she can be quite stubborn about changing her beliefs. She thinks I must have some other reason I watch the show, such as for attention. After a while, I decided she would most likely understand it better if she had a list of reasons why I actually watch the show.
If anyone were to help come up with ideas for the list, I would strongly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Seeing as people here commonly drop images at the end of their post here...
It's a Rainbow Dash Trout!
Ehh, as long as she's not like, banning you from watching the show, let her think you're doing it for attention. My mom was utterly convinced I was going to be embarrassed of myself a month from when I'd told her. Then, as I kept watching the show, she realized I really liked it. She doesn't like it herself or anything, but as a "welcome home" gift when I got back from college, she bought me a pony t-shirt, so clearly she realized it wasn't just a fad or something I was doing for attention.
I use this mod and keep it on the setting where only people with pony skins are turned into ponies. It's a lot of fun on a populated server, like Survival Games servers or some such.
I'm a she. And yes, that's what I meant. Being a My little Pony fan in the 8th grade isn't easy! They call me a four year old
Ooh. Eighth grade just sucks in general. Just know that as a girl, you'll have an easier time showing your fandom. People might make fun of you for talking about the show seriously, but I doubt many people would mock you for wearing a shirt or a backpack. I knew girls in high school and college with Hello Kitty backpacks and stuff. If you just wear a pony shirt, I think you'll find most people will assume you're just wearing it because it's cute, but other bronies will probably comment on it.
Does anyone know of any good MLP songs/albums as of late? I'm trying to expand my music collection, but I'm currently on vacation, and it's quite literally impossible for me to effectively browse Youtube (video plays for 7 seconds, then forever frozen). I don't trust EqD because of their silly genre classification and lack of decent quality control (as far as I can tell).
You're literally judging it based on its plot structure? Really? Besides 24, I can't think of a single show whose attraction or gimmick is its narrative structure.
Well, the trailer has raised my hopes a bit. I'm glad that there appears to be an action scene towards the end (With the Mane (Hair?) 6 tossing the crown around) so we can guess that the story isn't entirely resolved by Twilight becoming prom queen. The one thing that will really bother me is if Sunset Shimmer made it the prize for being prom queen willingly. I'd rather some contrivance to get it used as the crown rather than "My evil plot is travel through dimensions, steal a magic crown, then make it a prop at a high school dance that the person I stole it from is attending."
I watched the show once, didn't care for it, I didn't think it had all that.
We still have that "normal society" mentality that believes pink is for girls and blue is for guys. We have gender stereotypes, and in society, you gotta attune to them accordingly or you will get hate. No questions asked, if you don't attune to it, you are deemed weird, immature, and an outcast. This is why you get the hate from people who have no clue about this fandom, they have no idea of your ulterior motives, and will think you watch it for the "girly" factor.
P.S: MLP is a girly show for girls.
damn I wrote worse paragraphs for term papers)
The show doesn't appeal to you. That's fine, but you can see why it might appeal to us, right? It is a much better show than, say, the Strawberry Shortcake show. Just objectively, it's a better show. So you know the misconception is undeserved. But it is there. I said that in my post. It's just not deserved in this case. Most people just don't realize it because they're so used to the only redeeming quality of young girls' television being the girliness.
So yes, if some unsuspecting parents walked in, they might think it's weird, but if the parents thought about it at all, they'd probably realize that the show probably has some outside appeal to their kid. My parents' first reaction upon me telling them was not "Are you gay you're grounded ponies are evil." It was "Why?" A bit of an incredulous "Why?" but they asked. That's what I would expect any competent parent to do.
And the show really isn't that girly. I don't know which episode you watched, but they variably contain things like a God of Chaos, fights with hydras, time travel, and a journey to the PHYSICAL GATES OF TARTARUS.

I am occasionally on Brohoof. It's creative, so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.
Also, some stuff happened today, but I already typed it up in the imgur album, so I'll just let you read it there.

Have you read Fallout: Equestria? In addition to the ones Nerevar mentioned, it's utterly fantastic. I rate it among the best things I've ever read.

What would you be made of for it? My body composition didn't change when I started watching the show. Still primarily composed of water.

I'm really into Sim Gretina right now.
