How is money going to give you the focus to write full time? That doesn't make much sense.

    Quote from Elaxter
It isn't, unless he's going to quit his day job and hire a sitter. Don't see what he would need money for if he's not doing those two things with it.

Well again, the purpose of kickstarter is to fund project development.

Publishing isn't free. Getting the books printed costs money. Yeah, I would live off of funding, but it is also going to printed copies, marketing, and any requirements that come with publishing a book. I don't need to pay for a babysitter if it gets funded, so I don't know where you got that from.

This sounds like something I'd like to read, but why do you need money at this point?

Sounds like a good plan but I don't know why you need a kickstarter to buy a bic biro and an A4 pad of paper.

My purpose for starting this kickstarter was to create funding for the development of the project. I current split my time between working overnights, being primary caretaker for my son, and a number of other things that kind of hinder my ability to write. This grants me very limited time to even think about it, much less write it. With a full funded project, I will be able to focus on writing full time. I already have the story planned and written in my head, but time itself is pretty elusive.

    Hey everyone!

First of all, thanks for reading! I know it's difficult to be interested threads like these, so I appreciate those of you that like to support independent projects. (Minecraft started off as one!)

Anyway. Onward. I am an independent writer, looking to finish my first book which is titled Of Connection and Disdain. Here is the premise: Two observant beings watch a man in the process of dying. "They" have the difficult task of choosing whether he lives or dies. When one of the beings wants to end it quickly and let nature take its course, his partner, being more reserved and patient, decides to bring him into the dying man's mentality, to better understand what he is going through. As he is dying, he has epiphanies and realizations about love, family, and and existence. All there for the Observers to see.

I'm currently looking for people who might be interested in helping in the development process of the book. I'm primarily looking for critique, as the first chapter is available to be downloaded and read. I'm not sure that they allow download links on here so I'll just link to the kickstarter page, which has the download available.

Either way, to make this more of a thread and less of a plug, I'm willing to take any critique or answer any questions about the book on here. You're welcome to check out the first chapter and let me know what I should fix/change.

posted a message on PLUGIN DEVELOPERS FOR HIRE
Looking to hire one or more developers for several different plugins.

Payment will be from $100 - $200 depending on how difficult the plugin is, which will be determined by me. Half of payment will be made when the plugin is finished to my standards, the other half will be played once it finishes alpha testing 1 week later.

These will be CUSTOM GAMEMODES. If you do a good job, you will be included in a percentage of the profits made from the server (10%).

I'll contact you tomorrow and see if you'd be a good fit. I'm not necessarily looking for a co-owner. But possibly an administrative staff.

Additional Feedback: I think the currency should be "Enchanted Jewels" (Diamonds and Emeralds) and you have to pay a certain amount(Up for debate) if you want to take out a book, however long the book is overdue, the Librarian with subtract that amount from said player's inventory,if they do not have sufficient funding for this, you can complete a challenge to pay off the book you owe,or else you will be locked in the "Book Return Station"( A room that we sort of make like a jail, behind the librarian's desk. Now,for the library and PvP concept of the server,I think it can be up for debate, but players could "Challenge" each other by right clicking them with a book, and if the challenger loses, you get both his books and he has to pay the librarian,OR if he wins and he beats the challenge-ee,he gets 3 emeralds or 1 diamond, another option is he can pick any book from the shop up to 3 emeralds of a price(Or however much the middle-amount for a book on the server is,sorry if i'm more guessing than being helpful. :/

Thanks for the suggestion! I think Challenging other players might get a bit complicated like that, but I'd say it's definitely possible to include that idea somehow.

As far as "late fees" go, I think that too is a good idea, but maybe needs to be executed in a different way. Definitely a fee needs to be implemented. That way, if someone is in the negative for cash, they won't be allowed to rent books until they are no longer positive. This also helps create more of a demand for books.

    I'll contact you via PM.

posted a message on New Concept: Library Server. Looking for Builders/Staff
I have had and attempted several ideas for servers, but all of them tend to fall through. I think my issue is that I am starting them off a bit too idealistic and difficult. However, this idea that I have now seems relatively easy, and shouldn't require too many mods.

    Name (WIP):

    Tomes

    Basic Concept:

Matching the original "Minecraft" feel, Tomes will not have any specific goal in mind beyond exploration, learning, and creativity. While there will be some features included that involve PVP, these will not be the main purpose of the server, and will be instead used as tools to enhance the main game mechanics.

Players will join and start off in a massive building, a massive building that consists of thousands and thousands of books: The Library. Several different branches for several different genres, authors, etc. Who are the authors of all these books? The Players!

Anyone is welcome to write a book about anything, and submit it to the Librarian, represented by the appropriate villager, for review. So the main feature of the server will be exploring the minds of the other players!

    How it Works:
    The Books:
When the player submits a book he writes, he'll drop it off with a "Librarian". It will fall into a hopper which leads to a chest(s) of books which will then go through to be reviewed by the staff to determine the appropriate placement. This will make it easy to prevent the shelves of books from being filled with inappropriate or useless content. Don't get me wrong, all books will be accepted, as I'm a firm believe in freedom of content, but it will be placed in the appropriate section of the map if it is something the general public won't care to read.

    Currency:
The books in the library will be lended to the players that choose to read them for a certain amount of time. When a book is currently being read by one user, no one else will be able to access that book until the time allotted is over, or the player returns the book on their own. The time allotted is still up for debate, but this will create a type of supply/demand scenario. The more popular the book is, the more interested other players will be in reading it. If it is constantly being lended, the player has the option of going to the Book Store, and buying it with emeralds.

There are three ways to earn emeralds: by the other players spending theirs on your books, by participating and/or winning events/challenges, or by playing survival and growing crops to be sold at the store.

    The Book Store:
This will give the players incentive to write their own books. As soon as a book is accepted to be put in the Library, it will also be listed at The Book Store for anyone to buy. The player may choose at what price they'd like to sell their books.

Littered throughout the bookstore will be displays of the most popular books, should any authors choose to rent them out (for a hefty amount of emeralds!). Each display area will cost a certain precent that depends on how much the players are willing to pay. When a date and time are agreed upon, the display will be set up for the players' books to be sold.

    The General Store:
The general store will be a means for newbies to earn emeralds. You can sell precious minerals or crops there to turn a profit, but it will be much less rewarding and much more time consuming than Challenges, Events, Trading, or Selling.

    The Competitive Aspects:
    Challenges:
Server challenges will be held regularly, sometimes several times a day. These provide an opportunity to fight, race, or solve things in order to earn a nice purse of emeralds. An example of a few challenges: King of the Hill, Puzzle Dungeons, PvE Dungeons, Races.

    Events:
Events will also be held on a regular basis. Some daily, some weekly, some monthly. These are the most difficult means to earn emeralds, but also the most rewarding. These will be very similar to challenges, but sometimes may cost emeralds to enter, and the payout will be MUCH greater.

    Survival:
You don't always have to spend your time in the Library. Each player will be provided 1 free chunk of land that he owns. Other players will not be able to destroy land, nor attack on, a chunk that they don't own, but they will be able to interact with any redstone material like levers and doors. This means you can steal from others on their land, but you cannot attack anyone unless you are on your land, or on the warzone.

The Chunks that can be owned will be placed on the outskirts of the map. Between The Chunks and The Library will be a free-for-all warzone. This adds danger to the server. Say you just grew a hefty amount of crops that you want to bring back to the general store to sell, but some random guy runs up and slices you dead. You just lost all your paycheck, and there isn't you can do about it.

    The Chunks:
As stated before, every player will be provided on 1 free chunk to claim. They have the option to pay a hefty amount of emeralds to buy more. Provides more space for farming, but is extremely pricey.

    The Fine Print:
    What I need:
I need builders. I need coders. I need mods that will make this possible. I need staff. None of these should provide too many difficulties, as most of the server will be manual interaction, rather than creating custom mods. However, as stated below, there may be a few situations in which something needs to be coded.

    Possible Difficulties:
    • Finding a means to set up the shops to work properly.
    • Innapropriate content in books being too much. I think books that have random characters or no content would be acceptable to just destroy, but I have a bad feeling staff will have a hard time going through all the stories.
    • Book size: Clearly, none of these books are going to be huge novels. I think this is a good thing, as I like to see people create short, but powerful or emotional content. However, I can see why people might not like this.
    How to Apply!
    Respond with the following stats:
    • In-Game Name:
    • Age:
    • Position Desired:
    • Experience as Staff:
    • Means of Contact:
    • Addtional Feedback:
    PLEASE PROVIDE FEEDBACK/IDEAS!

posted a message on Hiring a Mod Developer for a New Server Mod
I am looking to develop a mod, but don't have the time or resources to learn java on my own.

I have an idea for a server mod that involves users joining a raiding party and selecting a world to go to, then all of them working together to defeat the mobs/trials/bosses on that map. It will probably take at least a couple weeks to get all the features I want in, and that is with hiring someone to do it. It would take months/years for me to complete on my own, simply because I just don't have the time.

So I'm looking to hire someone to help not only make the mod, but teach me as you are making it, so I can see how manipulate the features in minecraft in case there is another mod I wish to make some day. I'm completely up for negotiation. I won't be paying based on who is cheapest. It'd also be based on how long it takes to make changes, because I am really hoping to get this mod up and running by 2014. Both hourly rates and just one large lump sum at the end of the project are options.

I'm creating a thread for this because I am willing to answer any questions you have, whether it be about being hired, or the mods features.

How much of the design for each of the instances are done?
What mobs are where, which areas it contains etc.?

Designs for the instances will be on randomly generated maps. While a few will need some cleverly designed buildings, I'm not looking for big builds. Most of them will be navigating and exploring the terrain.

The mobs will be spawn standard, except for selected points on each map. "Crescendo events". Some maps will have rooms where hundreds of varied mobs spawn. Some bosses will be able to throw projectiles (one will throw fireworks!), some mobs will have heavy armor, etc etc.

I can put this out there. I have a lot of experience with coding. I know the concepts and I have made several programs from scratch. Just none of them from Java.

I know how to make things very easy and very efficient. I have a plan set out for what features I want added in what order. I just need to find someone who can do it, and show me what they are doing so I can use that knowledge later. I'm not going to get into the specifics, but it will basically start off with:

    Setting up the lobby
-Party Search Options (creating/joining a group)
    -Friends list options
    -Class selection
    -World/Instance voting selection

    Main World Options
    -Home protection
    -Faction accessibilities

    Instances Options
    -Class modifications (healer, tank, etc.)
    -Mob Spawning
    -Modifying bosses
    -Playthrough scripts
    -Adding Skills and Powers

There is way more too it than this, I'm just providing a quick excerpt and a roadmap.
    Quote from Mazetar

    Amount of bosses?
How will the world select work in the raid group?

Each Instance will have a main boss to defeat, accompanied by a playthrough (including a script!) leading up to that boss. Most instances (depending on difficulty) will last about 2 hours. The shortest ones will be about half an hour, the longest one taking an avereage of 3 hours.

There will be overhead maps in the main lobby that show what each instance looks like, and the leader of the party will select the map to play, or there will be a vote.
