Just remember... a good gaming PC doesn't necessarily make a good recording PC.... though oddly enough, a Good Recording PC almost always makes at least a respectable gaming pc (in another visual analogy: Good Gaming PC = built like a Highway, lots of stuff, straight line, fast --- Good Recording PC = Built like a Cloverleaf, lots of stuff, going multiple directions getting on and off said highway)
Congratulations on posting your first parkour map! I would like to see how epic it is before I download it, though c: Might I suggest that you post some pictures? People might not download your map if they can't see what it looks like before hand!
Unfortunately your Laptop only has USB 2.0 ports unless you modified it. (2010, the year this was produced, was right around the transitions from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 came into play... but you didn't see much support for it until more recently, especially when looking at companies like Dell, HP, etc.)
For minecraft, USB 2.0 will get you a cap of about 25 fps @ 720p with FRAPs recording (I was able to eek out 30 fps using DxTory on my old system on a usb 2.0 port... but it was shady at best, and the quality was notably lower due to compromises I had to make).
The default HDD for it actually isn't that bad either... was surprised when looking up the stats for it - the default was a 7200 rpm hdd (laptops are usually 5400 rpm to save power)

If you end up buying a new computer, and want to use it for recording gameplay, be sure to drop back by these forums (or even this thread) and I'm sure myself or a few others can give you pointers (and no, you don't need a powerhouse like what many 'big' gaming channels use, to record successfully... hell... up until January, I was recording on an Athlon 64 X2 4600+, 2gig ram, and an nVidia 5800 GTX - and even now, I'm on what would be dubbed an 'economy recording rig' coming in at well under $1k to buy now)
Gotcha, thanks again~ My plan is to eventually build myself a custom gaming PC, though I'm waiting until I have a more stable income before I start that project. Until then, I'll be sure to keep your advice in mind, and see if I can find a suitable external that'll work with a USB 2.0 port. Thankfully, my dad happens to be pretty tech-savvy, and can probably help me from this point forward. Regardless, I most certainly will be checking back up on the forums later for further assistance, when I do have the resources to build a PC. c:
It sounds really cool c: I would love to see some pictures of it, though! Also, were you just wanting to tell the forums about your creation, or did you mean to add in a download link?
Might I suggest adding a few pictures? That way, even if it does take you some time to get your video out, people will still get to see the quality of the map they're downloading. You'll attract a much higher rate of views!
Hmm... it is indeed your hardware that's the issue... If it wasn't a laptop I would say slap in a 2nd harddrive and a new video card... these are 2 big chokepoints for your setup.
As a mobile system, I was interested in your harddrive, as most mobile harddrives are designed to save power, and are generally 'slower' when it comes to read/write - recording requires writing a HUGE amount of data to the harddrive while also pulling a lot of data for the game itself. It's like trying to cram 30 gallons of water down a 1 gallon per second pipe... if that analogy can make sense - this will make fraps bog down and perform like that (this is one reason, among many, that recording rigs use multiple harddrives usually - even though there are some drives that can handle it to an extent)
Ah, I see, okay c: Thank you for the analogy, it did help, as I am quite a visual person. And thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate your input!
As alzorath said, the speed of you're hard-drive is important. I use an external 1TB hard drive to record my stuff and since it's usb 3.0, it can handle the speeds. So if you get an external hard drive, USB 3.0 would be the one to get, I tried using USB 2.0 to see if there really was a performance difference... I ended up getting 1 FPS with it, and I can reach over 120 FPS on USB 3.0
Thank you so much for the help! I was planning on eventually getting myself an external hard drive anyway, and this just gives me more reason to do so. I really appreciate your input!
I've got screenshots coming today, but the map is in pre-alpha. A few wools are placed, but it's nowhere near completion. I'd love to show some of my past works, except they really aren't the best.
I see c: Well, then when the game is out of alpha and ready to go, it might behoove you to make another forum post to promote it again in its completed state, along with more screenshots. There's no harm in posting it twice when you've completed more~
Forgive me if I leave anything out, or add something unnecessary; as previously stated, I'm virtually clueless when it comes to how computers actually work.
CPU: AMD Turion II Ultra mobile processor M620 / 2.5 GHz
64-bit
4 GB of RAM
Max RAM Supported: 8 GB
Graphics Processor: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 - 128 MB
To add images:
On the bottom row of your task bar in the Edit Post system, there should be a little poloroid picture symbol right beneath the Smily-face symbol. If you click on the picture symbol, a popup will appear asking you to paste in a link to your image. Paste in the link, hit OK, and you should be good to go! Make sure to preview your post first, to make sure that it worked!
I'm going to go ahead and put this in my "Maps I Should Play" folder. I would like to know a little more about it, though. In addition to adding some pictures, I would suggest writing a description of the map. Don't be afraid to go looking at what more successful map-makers have done in their forum posts to get their creations attention!

Good luck! I'm glad you think so highly of the idea c:

Not a problem! And thank you for the stars, as well!

Very nice! This looks like a pretty cool map c: I'll definitely be downloading it now~

I was afraid of that.

I would suggest adding images of the map to your post, by the way. It will attract more people!
