    And now Notch goes and works on what I was going to work on!
    What is this, the 3rd or 4th idea he's taken? There's weather, hunger/thirst, larger worlds, maps, etc...

    Whether this mod is dead or not, I will not say. We will have to see what Notch actually did. It seems like it'll only make the worlds around 256 to 1024. I may go edit that or something.

    I will no longer ask you to hold your support completely. You can either hope for the gravity blocks, finite water, better mod management, etc.,or just go with Notch's vanilla code. It seems like he's targeting me... (Kidding)

    I think, what you could do, is access the actual biomes generation code and add in some code that could spawn the mobs. Otherwise, you could just have them spawn on certain blocks, like ice, snow, snow blocks, and sand. That would probably be easier, since you would only have to edit how current mobs are spawned.

    I think that you should add:

    Better Life:
    Colored stuff
    Thought of that, but yeah
    Maybe more songs or possibility of adding our own songs?
    Add an object that you put near a jukebox to make the music radius bigger (e.g Stereo)
    Interesting ideas, will have to mess with the sound engine though
    Air conditioning? (For hot weather, or you might live in the desert :tongue.gif:)
    Heat (For cold weather, or living in the tundra)
    Also thought of that. Would be a cool concept and go along with much better biomes, weather, air, and vegetation
    Abandoned villages with no villagers (to possibly take refuge in a home, and no villagers because lag D:)
    Lights other than torches (e.g Chandelier)
    Closets for storage
    Clothes
    Musical Instruments?
    Shoes that allow char. to run (e.g Tennis shoes?)
    REAL electricity, not redstone, with longer reach then redstone (40 blocks?)
    I had an entire post that rambled about this somewhere on the server
    Half doors/Gates/Iron gates (for fences)
    More steps
    Shelves
    Different cakes/Stews/Meats/Fruits/Breads Etc.
    Chairs chairs chairs.
    More paintings if possible
    Cheese.
    Sometimes I dream about cheese
    Sleeping at day (If you prefer the night)
    Solar Panels (For decoration or w/e you can find a use for :biggrin.gif:)

    Different Bows
    Reg. Aarow damage w/ bow:
    Willow: 2.5
    Maple: 3.0

    (Big) Dia. Arrow damage w/ bow:
    Willow: N/A
    Maple: 10

    5x5 Crafting Table?
    Different Arrows

    Arrow Recipe:
    Diamond arrow suggestion (all I'm posting cause I already got a ton of crap here)

    3x3 Bin

    :: :Diamond: ::
    :Diamond: :|: :Diamond: = 4x :arrow:
    :: :feather: ::

    5x5 Bin [With this design, the sticks are basically coated with a diamond coat, so instead of breaking upon impact with enemy, they can be reused 5 times]

    Also, the arrow should be only fired with the proper bow, other wise the bow you are using might break or only launch it 1 block, as it is a huge arrow.

    Suggestion: If they use blocks, it gives 9x the arrows as just using a diamond. (36 arrows)

    :: :: :Diamond: :: ::
    :: :Diamond: :|: :Diamond: ::
    :: :Diamond: :|: :Diamond: :: = 4x :arrow:
    :: :Diamond: :|: :Diamond: ::
    :: :: :feather: :: ::

    Trees:
    Sequoia trees (You know, those giant, old red things? [~100 blocks?])
    Willow trees (For crafting bows that shoot farther but weaker), and deal 3.5 damage
    Maple trees (For bows that shoot farther [farther than willow]), and deal 5 damage) {Big dia. Arrow (5x5 crafting) would do 10 damage)

    Interesting concept with all the bows and stuff. It's been talked about before in this thread, but I haven't really decided how far I will go with it
    I will post more if anything else comes up. :biggrin.gif:
    Go for it! The more the merrier

    hey netblitzer, what are you making atm since you can't begin to make this mod waiting for modding api?

    Currently I'm working on a server that will be up soon. I think I can have it up by the end of this month. I could post screenshots of the server if you want.

    There isn't really much of a need for 1000 blocks in the game, because currently THEORETICALLY it is possible to add more than 2048 blocks without adding extra block ids past 256 or changing the existing blocks if you know how to use metadata values.

    And correction: the biggest mod in all of Minecraft history might be, I repeat, might be Realms of Argoth, literally the biggest, because at current pre-alpha stage it weights already more than 200mb and it might go up to even 1GB with full 4 texture packs, totally revamped music, totally revamped gui of the game where even on the lowest resolution it looks astonishing, more than twice as much as stuff you can carry or store, 4 new armor slots, 3 consumable slots and above all that 11 complete new armor sets, each with 8 pieces of armor all textured up on high quality (512x256 pixel texture images)! Will feature more than ~400 blocks, more than ~200 items and equipment, mobs and boss mobs!

    So posting in the main topic post words "the biggest mod in all of Minecraft history" is overexerting. Everything you plan is good and interesting (don't know about bugs or quality), but good luck on what you are doing, though saying it will be the biggest, well I even am afraid of those words to use, since there are many large mods out there, that add tons of new stuff.

    I knew that would stir up some stuff, especially with all the new mods coming out soon. By biggest, I meant most new coded files and/or edited files. A bit hard to explain, but it can be summed up by most most new and edited features. I guess that's mostly what I meant. We'll just have to see how it all turns out. Since I made this post, there has been MANY new major mods, and it's starting to heat up the debates. So yeah, we'll just have to see.

    Entirely possible.
    Currently you can have 2^31 chunks in X and Z axis. So 2^31 * 16 blocks = 34'359'738'368 blocks = 34'359'738 km = 1/4 the distance to the sun.
    Although I'd suggest to NetBlitzer to cap the maximum of blocks in each direction to 2^31 blocks = 67'108'864 32-block-chunks, because of item positions and such that would start to act weird beyond that limit.
    Going below 50km from the sea level you'd be in the Upper Mantle of the earth. Counting from there to the surface of the moon, you could still go 1'756'749.648 km further into space. But still - you'd need 52'465'175 km MORE to get to Mars :wink.gif:

    edit: but seriously - who would want that? these are HUGE distances. Now with multiworld (the Nether being our first), I'd go for that option. Who digs down 50km or builds higher than 1km - on a mountaintop?! I agree that the heightlimit has to be increased and it's good to know that crazy things would be possible, but don't get overly excited. You won't EVER use all of the possibilities that come with this. Not with the current walking speed anyway :biggrin.gif:

    edit2: Average walking speed according to the wiki is 15.372 km per hour. Going from one end of the world to the other would take you ~139701 hours = ~5821 days = ~16 years. Have fun! :wink.gif:

    edit3: Fun idea: Why not allow us to limit how many chunks are being generated in each direction. When we reach the last chunk(s) change the way how terrain is generated to generate an ocean, so that water falls over the edges of the last chunk(s) (creating THE RIMFALLS :biggrin.gif: ). So the Minecraft world is a cube after all and not a "sphere" like all those non-believers were claiming :tongue.gif:

    Woah there. Seems like you are excited about all this talk of the farlands. To tell you the truth, I've only thought about them once or twice for the mod. Mainly because it would take far too long to get there...
    Anyways, space has been tossed around before in my head. Mainly, it would involve some sort of propulsion (obviously) and some sort of container. I was thinking ships that could be self-designable? That would give people the satisfaction of building a unique ship AND going into space. Unless their ship explodes or breaks apart, of course.
    And about the distance problems. Why not make it so that when you exit the atmosphere, it loads a new "world"? And maybe every step you go further into space does this? That would remove the idea of chunks bugging out at large distances, would it not?

    I dunno, people. We'll just have to wait until the source code comes out. Hopefully I can get it and be one of the few people.

    This won't be the biggest mod ever. I'm currently working on an enormous mod that makes maps deeper, and also turns minecraft from having tiers 0 and 1 to having 0-5. In other words, it makes minecraft more than 5 times bigger than it is now.

    Umm... Do you even know what this mod is planning to do?
    Cause I don't think you do. I mean, making chunks larger isn't much new. Also, making new items and some blocks aren't a very big accomplishment. My mod? Oh, it only adds vertical chunks, virtually making the map infinitely times larger. Also, this will add quite a bit more than 3 new tiers of items and blocks. I don't know how many tiers I will add, but trust me, it will be more than 3 tiers. Plus, I was planning MANY new mechanics that I didn't want to really announce, but I'll give you a sneak at the plan since modding support comes out next update. Maybe hardcore mode, diseases, broken bones, many new combat mechanics, many new creative mechanics, plus more. Trust me, this is going to be more than 20 or 30 files.

    Which brings me to my next point! I really didn't need that poll! Since source is coming in a few weeks or less, starting MCP now wouldn't even really help me. Now, if I actually manage to get the code, I will be going into a semi-seclusion. I have yet to decide how far from the minecraft community I will stay, but it will far enough to avoid distraction. So expect some results some time after 1.7 comes out.
    Thanks for al your support!

    Well, I added a poll. If you guys want me to get to work now, then vote that option. If you want bigger success, vote for the wait option. If you don't want it at all, vote for that option. It's now up to you guys when you want this mod to come out, more or less.

    Really, I would want to wait for the source to work on terrain, but I can try right now if you want me to.

    I found someone who already had an original texture pack that is 32x32
    here's the link: by Lilyo (I believe)
    http://yourimg.in/j/jvsea9l.png

    and I've tried looking into terrain generation/chunks recently (attempting to allow blocks to be placed higher than 128) and you're right it sucks having to work with all those weird function and array names.

    Eh... That texture is just the Minecraft texture expanded to be 32x32, which I could have easily done (Just change dimensions to 512x512 :/) But thanks for the help anyways! What I was actually looking for was an entire texture pack that was the original feel of Minecraft, that way they looked similar, but I could double the clarity between objects, like, say, a piece of beef and ham for example. If you could find it, I would be very happy.

    And yeah, working with messed up functions and stuff is really annoying. Don't know how Palindrome does it with his mods... (hint hint)

    Want to help? Ok!
    This may be hard, but I need a 32x32 texture pack that is a remake of the original MC textures. Why? So that I can add that many more details! That's all I really need right now as I wait for Notch to release that seemingly easy, but really hard, contract for modders to get the source code. And before you ask, "Why can't you do it with the code you have?", I'll tell you. Have you ever tried editing 20 to 50 files where half the functions are named "function_2910" and the variables are named "field_289"? Let me tell you, It's hard!

    Quote from Afatsum_the_Dwarf »
    I stopped reading after 32x32x32
    Because ores generate in different depths, going down would just screw that, and going up would be pointless. Its good that youre trying to do something for the community, and i can see that everyone is super excited, but even making the Y axis 32 chunks would multiply everyone's world sizes by AT LEAST 10 and greatly increase minecraft's CPU usage.
    Game is not finished yet, let Notch handle some of the things.
    (Dont consider this as flaming, i am just stating my point.)

    Hmm... Doesn't seem you know what you're talking about. Not to make you sound bad, but the world wouldn't be loaded all at once. Chunks are loaded as they are needed. So why would it use more CPU to render the same space, or maybe even less? And how would that mess up the depths and heights? If anything, I could make it better and more fun and interesting.
    If you really want to help, but can't make the textures, you should ask Notch about the contract. Because I'm completely baffled why he hasn't released it yet.

    While I wish I could help, I can't, due to the fact that I don't use mod loader.
    Which, now that I think about it, wouldn't exactly push you to weather. As much as you may like it, mod loader is used to make making things easier. Going from something that makes things easier to do to something extremely hard is a massive leap. After you've done stuff with mod loader, try making things just with the raw code, like a block and tool. Then work on animals, then rendering stuff, then you might be up to making your weather mod.
    Wish I could help more!

    I was thinking about your increased number of BlockIDs upgrade, and I figured this out:
    If you use 2 bytes per block, 12 bits could go to the BlockID (4096 possible blocks, vanilla: 256) and 4 bits could go to the Metadata (16 possible Metadatas, vanilla: 16). This would increase the number of possible blocks by a factor of 16, while only making saves 1/3 bigger.

    Huh, never thought of that. You do have a very big point though, and it could go a long ways. Although, I haven't been really trying to do that part of the code much. Not yet at least.

    If you're going to improve weather that much, you might want to consider adding a flowing-water/rain-creates-water/drought-evaporates-water mod.

    I don't know where it was, but someone already showed me an amazing dynamic water mod that acts like Minecraft but hasn't been implemented. And yeah, I was going to add finite water to a point, so you couldn't just make an "endless water source."

    I looked into building a 3D chunks mod myself, and got stuck with Minecraft refusing to respawn me, with bedrock generating every 16 blocks, with blocks incorrectly rendering above the bottom layer of chunks :sad.gif:
    Once again, I say that Notch should pay you (a lot) for creating this mod. :DBlock: :GoldBar: :DBlock: :GoldBar: :DBlock:

    That was actually a problem I had during some early testing. I found that trying to compact everything into a space of 16 didn't do that, and instead made bedrock every 16 vertically and dirt or sand every 16 or 32 (can't remember which) horizontally. Of course, this also didn't make everything on layer 15 and 16, but rather kept it on 64+. I actually imagined that it was building the chunks sideways, but I couldn't prove this. I haven't tried messing with that again.

    And for the people wondering where Notch said stuff about the modding API, go look on his Tumblr. He talked about it like it would be soon, so I figured 1.6. Although he hasn't said anything since, so I might try again with MCP.
    On a side note, I should be doing one of the last major projects of the school year tonight! Only have on in Theatre, Geography, and possibly ELA after this!

    The ideas in this thread are great, and I don't want to knock this thread.

    But be honest, there are 19 pages worth of ideas and...
    No Mods!
    and no updates about progress, so until there is even 1 mod on this thread
    then you can't keep making claims about "biggest mod", "most realistc".

    Now i'm sorry if i've offended anyone but i'm making a point that you should show something to all your loyal supporters and people who want this mod to be made;
    Don't let them down.

    Yeah, a status update would be nice, I don't want to advertise this in my sig for nothing ya know! :wink.gif: But really, what is happening??

    Seriously it's a big let down. We're better off just using omni-mod cos this guy is gonna drop the project before he's even halfway done.

    Hey now! I never said I was going to drop it!
    As a matter of fact, I've been preparing myself.
    Also, I've just been doing a lot of homework. Seems teachers forget about some things and then dump 5 projects on you in the last few weeks :/ It's kinda tiring to do so many!
    But anyway, I'm preparing myself. For what? 1.6! Notch said that modders will have the SOURCE CODE (or something close to that) and so will be able to make mods MUCH more compatible, and at a MUCH faster rate of speed. In other words, wait for 1.6 update, hope school won't bog me up, then work.

    And if you guys don't want to follow, I don't mind. I'll just continue anyways. I'm sure you'll hear about it again.

    The reason it didn't work is because I didn't release the 1.4 version of Better Trees. I was about to, then I found out that Notch's update was coming within a week, so I held it back. I had new content in there too, but you'll have to wait and see what that is.

    can we get the eta on this?

    Oh boy... An eta? Hmm...
    Well, I can give a rough estimation based on the time it takes to strip the terrain generator, or I could give one based on real time, or one with school and projects included and stuff...
    In total, I believe it will be around... 10 to 80 hours of work to strip the terrain generator to the bare bones. Then maybe another 40 to 120 hours to add vertical chunks, and make them infinite. To finish, maybe another 100 hours? This is all rough over estimates, but could be very realistic in some cases. If by May I don't have the generator done, expect mid June. If I have it done by then, don't expect weather to come faster. That will be harder than the generator as a matter of fact because that involves both the generator, the tick updater, the renderer, and more.

    So expect anywhere from mid May to June for the generator, and maybe end of summer for everything else? I don't know. These are rough.
    Oh, and I'm almost done with my castle :biggrin.gif: You guys should go watch the Qubetuber's live stream Friday! It should be displayed! Wonder if someone will buy it to burn it...
