posted a message on Rebuilding a map using MCNostalgia
If you use World Painter, all you need to do is go onto the map, (just revert back to the right version, don't use NBT) load the chunks you want once, then import it onto world painter. You can then edit the biomes or whatever you want, then export it in 1.3.2 or 1.4.2 format. I haven't actually tried this, but from my experience I'm pretty sure you can do this without much trouble.

Another thing that makes it fun, is zombies and skellys with armor, even just a pumpkin head, makes them immune to sunlight.

So glad I've been on 1.3.2 to use Sonic Ether's.... that would have been rough...

Interesante. I'll believe it better when I see a zombie with a sponge on it's head, though.

posted a message on Neko's Painted Custom Terrain
    Hello, everyone.

So I'm a novice map maker, and I'd like some help from the community. What I ask of the community is to live, rate, and give feedback on my maps, and I'll change them accordingly. Unlike some other custom maps, these maps are more survival-oriented rather than vanity maps. I create them to be playable and unique in that aspect. I use this to create my maps: http://www.minecraft...rk-in-progress/.

So please, download and enjoy my maps! Take screenshots or some media and come back here, telling me how I can make it better, whether it be looks, vegetation, biome transitions, shape; whatever. Or, just enjoy them.

My first map. This map is supposed to be slightly diverse.

It has a rocky kind of west coast with pine forests, and an east coast with a regular deciduous forest and smooth, sandy beaches. There's also some plains and lakes on the east coast.

For gameplay reasons, to get sand, you go to the bottom of the sea or the beaches. For gravel, there's only underground and the west coast. A large deposit of clay lies in one of the straits.

There are large caverns all under the island, full of resources.

Now, download the map, play, and show me what you do! It could be your buildings, or something you want me to fix. Explore, and tear this place apart. I want to know what you do and don't like.

    Screenshots

As the owner of all the maps posted in this post, I ask you to not take photos, record video, or use my maps in any public server without giving credit to me, the creator. These rules don't apply on this thread. Film, capture, and do whatever you want so long as it stays here. Please do not redistribute these maps without my permission.

    Thank you, and happy crafting!

posted a message on The Wither is a complete monster.
    Quote from Robloxius

I'm really beginning to hate the phrase "Constructive Criticism", its so vague and stops discussions right in the middle of it, we are explaining why we dislike certain features, that should be enough to be considered "Constructive" only time when it isn't constructive to me is when they start calling eachother names and acting like children.

Thought you might reply to my post. You seem to be on top of things and have an opinion on them. My point is this thread is like many of the others out there. You know it's gone when everyone starts saying "just don't use the features", and actually contributing by saying what they don't and don't like, and some hating, some agreeing, but I've seen it all before in the other posts. It's gotten to the same point, really. Not much else to say.

Also, I used "constructive discussion". Basically it means the discussion is not heading in a positive direction, and nothing is getting resolved. People are posting their opinions, but this thread doesn't say: "What do you think about 1.4.2?" People are just agreeing or disagreeing, and the same arguments are being made.

There was another thread just like this that popped up, but if focused on the whole update rather than the Wither. Still, the same posts have been made here. Contacting someone to request a thread lock; it's worthless since "all logical posts have been made" like in the other thread, and this is no longer a constructive discussion.

I wouldn't mind to see a language pack made after that guy who makes up words. Was it Dickens? Even so, playing minecraft with hobblegotches of tiddlybinks and bingarzers just might be fun.

Whatever happened to the seed threads that were about this http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/209670-wolf-breathtaking/? If I turn off generated structures is your seed still worth it to me?

posted a message on Minecraft Oceans+
There's a mod for this stuff. I especially like the one that adds pirates. I think it's dungeons+. There's also an ocean adventures mod and corral reef. Worthwhile to adding to the game is probably the basic fish idea and the sea monster boss.

posted a message on I need ideas for redstone creations

The oven, possible. Sewer system, not needing redstone. Lighting, not needing redstone. Farming system, impossible.

Lighting system needs redstone. It needs to be ready without the push of a button, just turns on and off with the change of the day, without manual intervention. Farming system isn't impossible. I know people who used redstone nodes or such to detect when the crops are done. You should be able to find something to help you on the forums. But I KNOW it isn't impossible, because I've seen it on one of my friend's maps (don't have it anymore tho...).

I don't have anymore posts yet, (but I should have 1 because I only have 9 posts) or atleast not until later today, but in meaning I want the lights to come on at night. So no, using only glass won't cut it. No lights at night make no sense. Other than that, show me how to do it with only glass.

Also, just look up the farming system!

Make an entire house wired and automated by redstone. Have a breeding section and cooking oven that automatically loads animals in, cooks them, then flushes their product out into a bin. Have sewer systems and automatic lighting based on time of day. Make a farming system that automatically harvests. Just automate everything within the home.

I think you should give each town it's own vibriancy. For instance, make one (these are only suggestions) a port city dedicated to trading and fishing, but lacks much else besides shops because it doesn't need it. Say there aren't many trees around. Well maybe there's a village with a lot of trees that trades. You could connect a road. Not only that, but adaptive construction is awesome. Basically it means building with the terrain and not going against it.

posted a message on Need constructive criticism on my castles 4 biome courtyard
For a 4 Biome castle you can't just BS it. You need a theme. Say you had 4 spires on all sides that relate to a certain biome and converge at a certain point to create- certain chaos, a distinct style, gradient transitions, ??? Or, you could have a castle with 4 split up sections in the courtyard only... But you can have domes, or hanging gardens or something! Explore! When I first build something, it takes me a few hours for just a 5x4x16 tower, and most of that is changing building materials or reshaping it. Don't BS this project if you want real criticism. 'Cuz right now I'm thinking: seen it before.

posted a message on So I Had This Idea....
I know I'm new here. I now this is my first forum post. But I implore you to read further.

I've played a lot of minecraft servers. And while some actually had something to offer, and some were nothing special, they all lacked in certain areas. What I saw quite often was loss of interest. A lot of the servers had no engagement and were completely player-run. That's great, but you need a little push.

So I started thinking. And I had this idea...

A minecraft server with a progressive storyline. Not one like in an MMO where everyone does the same quests and all that crap, or MC servers that give you petty tasks. I mean a whole server participating (or specifically choosing not to, as characters permit) in a journey, one of which anyone can jump in at any time. A server that isn't all interfaces, commands, and pretty buttons, but still has features. A server that has a map that looks nice, and is unique. A server that gives you an adventure. That isn't just "minecraft with other players". So.. who wants to break the foundations with me?

And though I can't reveal to much right now, the story begins in the iron-clad hallways of a place called Victor-Alpha.

Regulated food, regulated water, integrated sewer systems and automatic agriculture. Sports games, factories, and a swimming pool. All part of life at "ViccA". Cobblestone and cobblestone byproducts are all made by machines with little to moderate manual interference. Gladiators compete in the arena along with racers on piggyback.

Members live in peace, aware of only their immediate surroundings and time. I guess no one in the library cared enough to figure out there are NO history books in the library. And I guess more rooms are magically built? There's been no construction since the beginning of ViccA. But what about the increasing population? Where do they go if no rooms are built? But these thoughts do not linger in the minds' of the inhabitants. Instead, they go on their daily lives of whacking eachother with sticks and scheduled meals.

But I wanted more than to just to have basic elements. I wanted it to go deeper. Victor-Alpha can't be just run by players. I wanted to have NPCs following the player model with babies, children, teens, adults, and old folks. I thought they should be scripted to do certain things at certain times, like ViccA's lore permits. Some have certain jobs, and ect ect. I wanted them to be capable of basic conversations like when you pass someone in Skyrim, but you actually have to talk to them first. I wanted them to live and marry and have kids, die and their kids have kids.

I wanted to get past minecraft's limitations. Animations where you move your knees and sneak on your tip toes would be wonderful. Having a free-swing sword (confusing in text but pretty easy when explained), shield, gloves, glasses, mask, and hat slots (pretty much like Aether but not quite) would be a very good improvement. Adding simple items like clothes, renaming items to fit lore, for instance having wooden swords be more like clubs and stone ones as spears (because it takes a lot of skill to make swords) and iron as actual swords (because if you are using iron you are skilled). A skill system that requires some learning through literature and experience (literature to learn the skill, and experience to learn and/or train the skill). Among other things that I don't want to clutter up the thread with. Of course, this is a lot of extra and unnecessary things that I don't care about until the foundation is laid out.

A thing that's killing me when I'm writing this is that I'm so limited to what I can say because I don't want to ruin the story. Atleast not publicly. If some guys can get behind this, then I can elaborate a lot more in a more private manner.

Though I'm decent, I can't build epic architecture or a homage to Buckingham Palace. I don't know how to code backpacks or NPC timecodes into the game. I'm not a texture pack artist. I can't make epic soundtracks. Animating player models into something sweet isn't my forte. Though I could probably handle a lot of redstone work and writing, (I wouldn't mind others with me) I need help from the community. Servers all boast architecture, economies, trading systems, factions, storylines, texture packs, music, and all that guff. But who's say we show 'em all how it's done?
