Nov 10, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from JazzMan001 »On a slightly better note, I FINALLY got a working HD Texture patch for the update. Thank you God.
Nov 8, 2010Hey guys, I'd like to apologize for that fire started by ThomasNux a few pages ago. Apparently my dad has been letting my younger brother on the server and he doesn't seem to understand the rules around here. Frankly, I'm pretty pissed at both of them, more so my brother because he displays little respect for other people's ****. I know him. I'm going to remind my dad that HE was added to the whitelist, not everyone who can access his computer.Posted in: Alpha - SMP Servers
If you see ThomasNux online and he's using the chatlog (my dad's a slow typer, and when he does, he caps the right letters and uses his punctuation like I do) it's more than likely that it's my brother, and if he says he is, tell him to GTFO and buy his own goddamn user name and get whitelisted. I'm terribly embarrassed by this ********.
See you all online later tonight.
Nov 3, 2010Weird effect from the rollback earlier. I was building a house on a discrete island, and I had cut down all the trees on the island first. The rollback comes, and it seems like it morphed the "before I landed on the island" with the "after I stopped working on the island". My house was cut into a shape that I never built it in, I started at a corner on the upper floor and was building the floor plan from there, ant now a portion of my work is still the, but the corner (the first blocks I placed) is cut off. lol And on top of that... the trees are back! So my house is at a stage of production that never happened, and it's coexisting with trees that were never there while it stood! I'm not complaining, I think it's funny.Posted in: Alpha - SMP Servers
Anyway, I won't be around to work on it until Sunday night. See ya' then, guys.
Oh, and who blocked the front door to my dome with jack-o-lanterns?! You guys are crazy
Nov 3, 2010Chad's excellent at getting through the applications. I don't think he's actually missed anyone to date. It can take him time because he actually reads through the application and checks your posting history and if you've caused problems elsewhere in the past. Also, if you don't submit a full application, he is going to ask you to resubmit. This most often involves the "Picture of Something You Made" portion. Every bullet of the application is required, I don't know if the format or the order is so important, but if you really want to play in CoI it's in your best interest to try and impress the guy who's going to approve you.Posted in: Alpha - SMP Servers
Also, even if Chad approves you, it can take a while for Canna to actually put you on the server's whitelist. And sometimes a typo sneaks in, we're all human. If you got an approval email from Chad, it's okay to give a heads-up if you've spent several days waiting to get in the whitelist. However, if you have not received a reply to your application, it is simply because it has not been read YET. I capitalized "yet". I believe Chad replies to every single app, even the ones he doesn't approve.
So just sit tight, be patient, and catch up on the forums a bit and play SSP, that's what I did during my wait.
Nov 2, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from Arcanex »Hi guys. Recently, wildfires are starting in towns. So far 9 buildings were damaged or destroyed. Gold and iron were stolen from Riking and some1 else. Thxs

Nov 2, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from RaepSoda »I can't believe how you people are reacting to this. Elmo and mush had a chance to come back, but instead, elmo decided it would be a good idea to bash, insult, and disrespect canna in public, solitifing his ban, as well as mush's ban. I'm not saying canna made the best decisions, he definitely made a no-no, and should of kept elmo and mush's banning private until it was final. But have none of you been reading elmo's posts?
Yet you call canna the jackass here, while you sand in front of elmo protecting him. How can any of you defend a person who is so blatantly rude and disrespectful when things doesn't go his way? He has not only insulted canna, but Deer and chad too. I'll even go as far as saying he has insulted this server, and everyone on it as well. (apparently, we don't have "the balls" to voice our opinions)
This whole thing was blow way out of proportion, mostly because canna made the dumbass choice to publicly post a ban, and elmo making things even worse by his repeated offensive posts. This whole thing could of been avoided by keeping it to a PM.
And no, this server isn't going to die. Even amidst this whole fiasco, there have been applications. People will stick around, hell maybe even those who leave might come back. All I know is that this whole thing is down right stupid, and an embarrassment to us all.
I love you, man.
Nov 2, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from elmotactics »I've made the decision that even if I was to be readmitted to the server, I'm not going to return.
I will be in the process of looking for a new server, so if anyone has any recommendations, please feel free to PM me, as I don't want this to turn into a server advertisement against CoI.
Well, I'll miss you, man. We didn't know each other very well, but you were a cool guy to have around on the last iteration of the server. I especially liked your floating house in a glass globe, that was the most impressive construction per cubic meter I had ever seen.
I'm sorry I never came to your defense, because it truly is a shame we won't see you on CoI anymore. I was online when Canna said he found the middle finger island and your exploration zone, I was the first to ask if I could be warped to it or for Canna to at least screen cap it, but we never got a response. Minutes later he said he had TNT'd the middle finger and that you and Mush were banned. I expressed my opinion that it was a shame to see you two banned, but if you truly had been griefing then it was the right thing to do. However abrubt the action was.
I don't think I could have made a difference if I had been online while these last few pages of posts took place (on the account that I'm rather new), so all else I'll say now is I hope you're done posting in this thread. CoI will still be awesome without you, and it'll still be awesome even if everyone's objections against Canna are well founded, because the community is kickass. However, this quarrel on the forum gives all of us a bad name, imo. Everyone else gets along rather well, and this fight advertises something I don't think represents me and most others on the server. I only hope that these pages get buried quickly, and that these events are forgotten, but the lessons not.
So long, man.
Oct 30, 2010Slip looks like it's going to be awesome though. I'm determined to try to build a safe route through Slip. Routes between two predetermined points might be tricky though. Perhaps I can make the two portals above ground exactly where I want them, then go through Slip to try to find them.Posted in: Alpha - SMP Servers
I wonder if the compass in SMP works down there? Perhaps I can use azimuths to find portals. Otherwise, it might be easiest to place portals directly North, South, East, or West of each other.
Not that I'm going to start dropping portals in CoI, I'm going to experiment in SSP. But the possibility of every town having its own portal and there be a protected route or tunnel system in Slip excites me. The train system is going to be damn impressive, but I think building one down in slip while under fire from Ghasts can be even more so.

_Spang: @notch What everyone wants to know is the status of Health and damage in survival multiplayer.
Notch: @_Spang It won't be in this update.

That's a nice house. I'm impressed that you were able to make it look so good on such a small footprint. My attempt to make an interesting looking house in a 12x12 was kind of lackluster, and I see yours is only an 8x8! I'm definitely going to take some notes on your building style, I'm convinced making a minimalist building look cool is a skill.
Oct 20, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from Lyinginbedmon »There's a collapse mechanism I've been investigating that could be put to use to instead release columns of water, but I'm not sure how well it would work on a burning building.
For burning buildings, I'd recommend everyone put a free-use chest in front of their homes that is full dirt and stuff. Any passerby would have the ability to swiftly begin extinguishing the fire.
EDIT: That's a good idea too, elmo. Honestly I'm not sure on the best way to implement a fire control system, but It's something I'd like to try to figure out.
Oct 20, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from Lyinginbedmon »Yeah, the arcology's forest biome (aka giant tree farm) is being designed with the intention that, should a fire start, whilst it might not be easy to stop it (inside of a sphere, nothing is easy to rig like that), it will be very easy to replant afterwards.
The floor is non-flammable cobblestone, so the trees will burn away but the fire won't spread outside of the biome and then it's just a matter of planting new saplings on the floor-level blocks of dirt in each floor. It's not a perfect system (You lose an entire biome of trees) but at least it's easier to rebuild than, say, an all-wood house inside of a forest.
Perhaps high-value flammable structures like tree farms can have fountains on their roofs, and a pillar of sand or gravel inside goes up to the ceiling to plug a whole in the roof. If a fire happens all you have to do is destroy one block of sand and water is all over the place. Perhaps the base of the pillar can be protected by cobblestone so people don't accidentally strike the sand. I don't know exactly how well this would work because water behaves very strangely.
Oct 20, 2010Posted in: Alpha - SMP ServersQuote from elmotactics »minecraft.net down for anyone else? I can't log in -.-
Yeah, it seems like it came back up but it's not functioning very well.
EDIT: I think it just went back down again.
