You jump and then you then press and hold jump while using a rocket. I recommend to jump the second jump at the max height of the first jump. I even mastered the jump in pocket edition!
So, you are saying I should, while holding down the right mouse button on the rockets, jump once and then hold down jump? Couldn't get it to work for me. And this was pretty close to what I was already trying to do.
Since posting this I have watched a couple of videos and have again seen Let's Players do this... but basically I can only do it with a 4-5 block drop....
Edit: Wow, okay I am close. After writing my response, I was trying again and managed to do it twice in a fairly short amount of time. On one of my attempts I saw the rocket dip lower like it was going to get used, and I thought I might be close and I repeated what I was doing and got the two launches. I thought maybe I getting close to understanding it, but after the initial two I'm back to struggling. There is definitely an odd mechanic involved here....
Okay I have managed to launch myself a couple of times by just spamming jump and rockets... but it seems totally random, and doesn't happen quickly or often. There has to be a "trick" of some kind to this -- I have seen so many Let's Players launch themselves with ease....
I can't provide a direct answer, but it could be a pathing problem of the Villagers to their work stations.. DocM77 posted a build where three Villagers are given a single block to stand on, surrounded by beds and workstations -- and he was talking about having to work out the pathing issues...
I have been playing this game on and off for the last 8.5 years but, I only got my first Elytra (obviously they haven't been around all that time) today. Yay!
Is there a "trick" launching without using a cliff? I watched a couple of videos, and they say the same thing -- spam jump and the rocket. But it doesn't seem to work for me..? I'm hoping there is some subtle method to get a launch... (oh and yes, this is 1.14.4 Java)
What should I do to avoid being killed by lava again? The death think I was very hard to avoid.
You made a mistake, then panicked. Not much you can do to avoid that. I did something similar recently, but was calm enough to hot key my water bucket and deploy it above my head, preventing my death.
You just need to force yourself to be more deliberate in this kind of situation. You knew there was lava, you should have been doing this very carefully. As others said, mining in water would have prevented it. I generally only do that when I am mining obsidian since it almost always involves lava, but frankly it is more about making sure the obsidian isn't destroyed than my safety.
Howdy. I'm looking for an "automatic" chicken cooking build. I found several by Goggling, but all the ones I looked at seemed obsessed with keeping things small as possible -- almost always a single 1x1 for holding the egg laying chickens. I'm looking for something I can pile a full double chest (or more) of eggs into and get them processed, preferably lossless -- I'd like to get the feathers for arrows. I tried to modify two of the builds, but they rely on a comparator reading the hopper catching the eggs. If the hopper is feed by a full chest of eggs things didn't seem to work (as best I can tell, the flow is just too fast). Would appreciate if someone could point me to a build which would fill those needs. Thanks in advance.

I just through broke the Nether ceiling and started a gold farm in 1.14.4 yesterday. It all seems fine...
