    I used to have a lighthouse which used a rail system connected to a daylight sensor, the sensor powering a rail on a sloped bit which stopped and started the cart. I occasionally had to go up and replace the cart after it would mysteriously despawn. I've also had carts despawn on junction stops on my rail lines, and in all cases it was after loading/unloading chunks by either leaving the game or the area. What I did notice was it seemed to happen to carts stopped on sloped tracks rather than level ones, but then again they also were resting on unpowered powered rails, and I never determined if either observation was connected to the cause. What I do know is its been happening for me since 1.6 (PC, and my world is Single Player) but nowadays I don't seem to notice it much, mainly because I demolished my lighthouse and I've been in an area of my world extensively since around 1.8 where I don't stop on sloped tracks due to not having any junctions in this area ... curious if your cart disappears from a sloped position!

    posted a message on Preventing animals from landing in a 2x1 area to the side of a shaft

    Its very similar to the drop shaft in my XP farm; the mobs take fall damage on a piston sub-floor which opens a few secs after they land, via trip wire, to fall into the water flow collection point. The main shaft was 2x2, I simply opened the shaft to 4x2 underneath the trip wires so there was no ledge.

    Since they updated the Squid movement so they can swim up better, I find my old water flow drop to hoppers farm is nowhere near as effective as it was as squid swim can against the flow now. When I built my guardian farm, I did toy with an idea of maybe transporting a tagged guardian to a purpose built water pool with hoppers in the bottom, and he could kill the squid that spawned in it for me. Would have been a novel way to collect sacs, but I considered the idea of moving the guardian a bit difficult & long winded ... still I do like the idea ...

    (Bases 3 and 4 are my current bases, they are about 1500 blocks apart and only a 20 sec journey in the Nether by rail)


    All my bases have extensive underground areas, not really apparent in the pics, but after my first world (this is my second) where I built everything on the surface, it became rather cluttered and broke up all the landscape views and vistas over time. So its 99% underground for all my pens and machines and farming etc now.

    My SMP world is now around 7500 Minecraft days old, and is around 16000 x 12000 blocks area. I have what I would term three large main bases (I did have four but demolished the second one in the Mesa and intend to rebuild it at a later date). I then have around six smaller bases; one at the spawn point, two at two different jungle biomes (one had two jungle temples close together), two at two different mushroom biomes and an underwater one, then I would say I've got four-five outposts; including three at the three End Portal locations and one by a witch hut. I've also augmented around six villages and would count them as outposts as well.

    Completed my Skull Temple with a Skeleton Head after I trapped and detonated my third charged creeper a few days ago.



    I also decided to build a small underwater observation dome on the East side of my pyramid base, about 60-70 blocks away with a connecting tunnel. The tunnel has floor lighting connected to my daylight sensor array, so comes on at night, whilst the dome itself has floor lighting with manual control.

    I've used Golem's spawned in an artificial undeground cave with the Wither, and the Wither gets beaten up just fine. Killed all my Withers (at least 12) this way...

    I have a base near a swamp biome which I levelled in areas and built an observation platform in a central area from which I could locate slimes for harvesting. It was here during a thunderstorm I got my first charged creeper. I augmented/upgraded the platform and now whenever a thunderstorm occurs I drop what I'm doing and race to it, on the lookout for a charged creeper. So far I reckon I've monitored around 15-20 storms from this platform and I've just had my third charged creeper.

    I had four in a new area once (one was right outside the portal I came through from the Nether), but spread slightly further apart, certainly not able to get all in one screenshot like yours.

    The trick about the two high opening between half slabs not being seen as passable by mobs has been around a while, I saw it in the clip below when I was looking for a mob proof door some time ago;



    But the one in the OP has only been around since 1.8 I'm sure.

    I've noticed this for a while now, as I have a heavily half slabbed area around my nether portal and angry pigmen always get stuck in these areas - mentioned it in a pigman thread a while back. Think its been around since 1.8 - my guess is its a bug that will get fixed.
