Do you know how to use item frames, stone, and torches to make a torch holder-looking thing? Because you could do that and maybe stick some mossy cobble in the walls. You can also hang some vines from the ceiling and on the walls. Like rodabon said, I'm not sure what kind of look you're going for so I can't offer much help.
Wolves are really only useful for exploring above ground IMHO. It's nice to have some protection around just in case your sword, bow or any tool you are using to fight with breaks and you are unable to craft a new one.
They can heal and eat. It is a bit "costly" though. They eat meat. Rotten flesh and cooked/uncooked meat are the two things you can feed them. Their health is indicated by the position of their tail. If their tail is hanging low, it's low on health. If it's up fairly high, they have full health, but I'm sure you already knew that. I just figured that was a thing everyone was aware of. If you don't want them dying a lot I suggest bringing a lot of rotten flesh or meat with you the next time you take them with you.
The only problem with feeding them is the fact that you feed them the same way you breed them, so you need to feed them one at a time and have the others sitting down if you dont want puppies running around.
I do wish i could bring my wolves into a cave without them dying, but I guess that's just how it is for now.
Carrots are the most efficient food if traveling or spelunking. But, if other food like meat is available, you should go with the meat, obviously. It fills up your hunger bar much faster than carrots, and it's not that hard to find since cows/pigs/chickens are nearly everywhere. But carrots are great if animals aren't nearby. Much better than melons, definitely. Not very easy to find unless you run into a village or happen to get one from a zombie, though.
Once you sleep in a bed, it will make that spot (wherever you set the bed) your spawn point. No, it will not lag your game.
And as far as I know, peaceful and neutral mobs will not despawn if you move to a different area. Hostile mobs will, though.
And as far as making survival more fun, you can aim to complete all of the achievements. You can also invite a friend to play with you! If your bored with solo survival, you should try and play on some servers.
Lol, both of these have been well known for a while now.
Yeah, I know. I just felt like posting it for the people who didn't know, and the new people. I had found them out about half of a month ago, and I hadn't thought about posting it anywhere until a few days ago.
So, I found some really cool easter eggs upon messing around on Minecraft and reading the Wiki. The first one is the Upside Down Mob easter egg.
How to do it: Rename a spawn egg of any mob to 'Dinnerbone', or 'Grumm' (both must start with a capital letter) and spawn the mob. (You can also use a name tag to rename any already existing mob. It will have the same effect as using a renamed spawn egg)
What it does: Once you rename the mob or use the renamed spawn egg, the mob will turn upside down. It's a pretty useless easter egg, but it's pretty cool.
Next is the Disco Sheep easter egg
How to do it: Like the first easter egg, you're going to want to rename a SHEEP spawn egg to 'jeb_' (You can also use a name tag to rename an existing sheep as well)
What it does: Once you've named the sheep, the sheep should slowly (but fluently) change colors much like the floor of a disco club. Hence the name of the easter egg. NOTE: It HAS to be a sheep. This won't work with any other mobs unlike the first easter egg.

(The sheep was changing colors by the way)
I just felt like I should share this information to people who didn't already know this, or to new people since it's pretty cool.
Do any of you have any more cool easter eggs you would like to share? Post them here!
Sometimes, It just takes time for the game to load up. It happened to me the first time I opened my game up. It was a black screen with just the crosshair, and after a minute or so, the terrain started loading up and generating. Also, try turning down your settings. Turn your smooth lighting to either minimum or off, turn your graphics from fancy to fast (unless you have a good computer that can run fancy graphics), and turn your render distance down a few chunks. You can also try turning bobbing off and clouds off. All of these settings can be found by clicking the "Video Settings..." button once the game is paused.
If all else fails, try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it. Or just not using a skin.
Good luck!

Here's a website where you can find servers to play on: http://minecraftservers.org/
Have fun!

I think it's because they're protecting their enderpearls so the player won't be able to get to the end.
That's obviously a ridiculous answer, and it's not true, but it makes sense in a way.

Apparently, according to the wiki, the chicken will move as fast as the baby zombie. So in this case, the chicken is not slow.
