So I'm making a map for a server idea I have, though it'll take a bit of work. Basically, the idea is to have a mostly vanilla roleplay server with a dynamic story that'll unfold as things go along.
Anyways, first picture. I'll be documenting my progress semi-regularly as I go along.
This is it so far, the building to the left will be the Guild Hall, then there's two small houses for players to rent, and finally the town market/square. I'm hoping to do a bunch of neat stuff with command blocks too, and also add NPC shops. The town, and most other areas like dungeons will be in adventure-mode, while certain player housing will be in survival.
So far, I've got a general gist of a plotline. Ashendale is a part of a big empire, but there was a devastating war with their neighbour and they aren't able to assert much control over the far areas of their empire. Suddenly, monsters started appearing though, and it stretched their military thin. Ashendale was evacuated, though the mayor amassed funds to hire an adventurers guild to clear out the monsters.
You are the adventurers, but making the town safe again is a task easier said than done.
Anyways yeah, thanks for reading, I'll keep you guys posted. Feel free to suggest what you'd like to see me work on, or something I've already done that you'd like to see more of.
So far, the current projects are the market, interior of the guild hall, some more houses, a few more buildings that will be opened as the story progesses, and the walls.
Edit: Built a church, this will be the spawnpoint of new players, and there will also be the first dungeon underneath it (The crypts). I'm pretty happy, the building does look a bit stubby from above, but it's not bad.
Jun 3, 2014My internet was down for a few days but I've still been working and I'm pretty happy with the progress so far. Working on the Ender Castle and the Alchemists College, there's still alot of work to be done on them but the structure is coming along.Posted in: WIP Maps
Unfortunately cartographer didn't want to render the roofs on the ender castle, and taking pictures of it is a bit difficult since the fog in the ender doesn't care about render distance.

Declined. Both me and another administrator on my team looked into you and found very little regarding minecraft (in comparison to your application). Along with the lack of information surrounding your IGN online, you also have unreliable information (Lord of the Craft) saying you were 15 back in 2010/2011 and your skype username is not found. Please forgive our skepticism, though when this many things don't align, it's generally not a coincidence.
However, this does not mean you are rejected from our clan. I extend to you a line of grace for you to apply again after you make a name for yourself. Post up some of your creations online (actual worlds included), and get some feedback on your quality. Show us that you are the one who actually built those builds, and we can then begin to trust you. Thank you.

Yeah, I guess my history's a bit sketchy, but I am willing to do what it takes to earn the trust that you need. I'm a few days away from finishing off a survival map, I think it's going to be pretty cool once it's done. The dimensions should be pretty easy to get if you can take a picture of each floor. I'm pretty sure the sprites are 32x32 pixels so you could just make a grid in gimp or photoshop and decide how many meters each tile is.
Here's an example, it turns out I was wrong and the tiles are actually 16x16, but oh well. I think each tile being 2x2 blocks would preserve the scale quite well.
(Incidentally I've also taught you how to texture rip, please don't sue me Nintendo)

This is the main cave network underground, it snakes around the entire map and has lots of rooms and branching paths. Pretty easy to get lost in IMO. (So I just tried to get myself lost, took me 2 minutes of running and then another 15 minutes to find my way back. Success.)
I don't want to give that many pictures of the stronghold, but I think it'll be easy to find anyways. Not so easy to clear, but hey, this is going to be a hub of sorts once you do find it. For now though, just one picture taken near the entrance.
Ah, the blood maze. Originally a little competitive minigame, I decided to move it into this map and turn it into a fast-paced loot dash. Unfortunately there's nothing stopping you from just taking the walls out since I built it in a worldguarded area. Oh well, you guys are honorable people who will follow the rules, right? Right?
A calm, relaxed lakeside village that's been untouched by the ages. Looking back at what I've built and what's next, this place is probably the nicest and totally won't kill you in your sleep, which isn't to say the others would either. Heh.
A hermit on the top of the mountain, all alone except for his potions. I wouldn't trust him, he seems shady and all the mages and alchemists with good intentions study at the college.
May 25, 2014I've been working on a map for a bit now, and I like it. Well, I actually made one but didn't like it so this is my second try. I'm using a tool called "World Machine" to generate the heightmap, it's a very nice tool that helps to make believable mountains and lakes. After that I import it into worldpainter and do some fine tweaks; add caves, forests, biomes, fine-tune the terrain a bit, that kinda stuff.Posted in: WIP Maps
I call it Zen Lake, it's roughly 3kmx3km(The wor and it surrounds a great lake, with several cliffs, foothills and flat areas. Around the map are some taller mountains and smaller lakes. Here's a few pictures I took in the first render. As you see, much still needs to be done to make it functional.
This map I'm making still stays vanilla survival in spirit, but I've decided to make all the terrain, caves, strongholds etc. all myself. That means that all of them are new and exciting to find. There is a pretty cool storyline for the map which I'll leave for you guys to find out, the stronghold also has a sort of "Victory Room" which has a few trophy racks, loot chests and most importantly, the victory monument. At the end of many story arcs will be the directions to a reward that's pretty much impossible to find outside of completing the story and finding all the hints. Rewards won't just consist of wool for the monument and items though, you'll also get special effects from command blocks (Which will be required to play this map to it's full potential)
Now, before we go on, this map is meant to be explored, which means that there will be spoilers ahead. If you're okay with ruining some of the suprise, that's fine but just a heads up. So far, here's what I've completed and what I still need to do:

Experience (Minecraft): Been around since July 2010 (Pretty long time now that I think about it.)
What I can offer: I'm pretty decent at building, but terraforming is probably what I enjoy doing most.

How do you approach a debate? I usually try to be the neutral party but if I need to take control of the situation I stay calm and work out all the facts with everyone to find the right way.
Do you understand that hacked clients are banned? Yep, never used one.
Do you understand that you are to stay with the village unless told otherwise? Yes.
Do you understand that you MUST have fun at all times? Aww, but being fun isn't very fun.
Lastly, do you understand that you must be somewhat friendly? I think you'll find I'm a pretty easy guy to get along with.

So, here's some few screenshots, some are slightly more current than others. I know a few things are a bit off.
1: The roads are a bit plain, and mixing it up with some cobblestones, grass patches and some halfslabs.
2: I feel the basic wall pattern is a bit bland/plain.
3: I've tried making a railroad, yeahno. I'm pretty stuck on that.
Any ideas on those parts or anything else you'd like to add would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that, just try to build a town in the style of your choice. It'll let you refine your own style and you'll also be able to look back and see how you've improved. Don't overdo it, just take it one step at a time.

-Once the time is up, or you're done, you upload the save and the next person in line repeats.
I think it'd be cool to see how everyones styles mix together, and perhaps we could all agree on a common "theme" so we don't have skyscrapers next to medieval taverns. Also suggestions on a starting biome would good. If you want a turn, say so on the thread and I'll put you on the waiting list.
