The only thing about the runescape thing, is there a mod out there that already does that. You mine the essence, make it into runes, and with that you can use spells, otherwise, I'd take it into mind.

In other news:
I wont get much done today, I have a bit of stuff to do, with family and such. I may be able to implement the DarkMages, but we'll see. Thanks for the input =D

1 Suggestion :

Meditation should be a basic skill, but i suggest to add some special requirements, and meditation itself would become something like magic crafting table. Because minecraft is about crafting. The one that need to be killed to start the way of magic would drop some plans of altar. Depending on the way the player would choose altar can be made for white or black magic. After making the altar, which would be created not as a portable tool, but would use specific world elements, the one that uses the scroll will open a dark or white magic path. I think that this altar should be usable only by it's high priest, so the one that activates it ( for playing on servers or lan)

For Black Mage - An altar must be build on stone ground, preferable in a cave. There need to be 4 pillars 6 blocks high, and 2 block high base made in shape of pyramid using stone brick stairs around it, on the top base 3x3 there will be placed a solid stone block in the middle. Using the scroll on the block if the construction is made correctly will change the textures into more darker and bloodish colors. And the top stone will be useable only for the one that made it. Anyone else will loose 0,5 heart and will be kicked away from the altar. Same thing would happened if someone would decide to destroy the altar ( Well ... creepers are an exception).

For White Mage - Construction can be the same but made out of sand stone with similat rules but brighter etc.

I think that using in world materials would give this mystical aspect to the mod like Mayas pyramids or Stonehenge , and won't collide much with other mods. if someone wish to add them.

Now the meditation phase:
I was thinking of making it like doodle god or devil games. Mixing 2 aspects of some sort would give you third aspect, etc. This would be like a research, and the results would be saved in your knowledge skill, or special button for that. Now for making the spell you wold need to learn the knowledge, and capture it during meditation into those magic stones. Stones would be imbued with an magickal aspect learned from your meditations by sacrificing something or in the withe mage style.

Placing such imbued stones on altar in right order and right shape would create a spark of knowledge which will give you some skill when used.

I was thinking that one could have an access to his skills by enchanting some weapons on the altar and making them magical in a way allowing to shift+right click set a spell, or even some special bar. Cause there are too many rods, and books out there, and magical items, even a pickax can be a mage tool, or a rock.

Going Further - such enchanted rocks could be used to make some advanced magical shrines or turret-like things. Like placing proper spark in the middle of an altar and surround it with smooth stone or obsidian ...

Got plenty more ideas ... if u're interested
