I've created another design similar to variant five in it's use of a power source at the base of the lighthouse, but this one is only a four-directional lighthouse. It is, however, the smallest out of all of the designs, and was intended for those who didn't want their lighthouse mechanisms to be wider than the rest of the structure.

I'll post some screenshots of it in the OP later titled Four-Directional Piston Lighthouse Variant 2.

Oh wait the repeaters make that impossible.

I think there's a way to modify the design of the repeaters to allow for two trams on either side of the rail. How many ticks per pulse, though?

You can also use a button attached to a T Flip-flop to allow you to open and close it from either side with one press of a button.

So I can have 4 repeaters in the clock each set at 4 ticks, then have a branch out to a row of repeaters right in front of my pistons set at 1, 2, 3, and 4 ticks respectively and it will flow smoothly, leaving the pistons unpowered as it passes? I probably didn't phrase that very well, but I hope you get my jist.

Exactly, well said. As you can see, that is the basis for all the lighthouses in that thread I linked, and the movement is completely smooth and uninterrupted if wired properly.

Wait, I just saw.. You only need a four-repeater clock with all of them set at four ticks, then you can shrink the clock massively and avoid those pauses between each side.

Grizdale's Piston Logic Compendium has several T Flip-flop designs that could help with this. Also, very creative use of hatches, that library looks great! :smile.gif:

For example, you can remove two repeaters per side in that middle clock of yours and simply set the remaining two to four ticks. This makes it much smaller at the same speed/delay. The redstone that branches out can be brought one block closer so that it's right next to the repeaters (repeaters accept a signal from only one direction, like a diode, so there don't be any interference by doing that), you then remove a row of repeaters and set them in order of one tick, two ticks, three ticks, four ticks. (repeaters are/have a delay of one tick by default, if you didn't know).

That thread contains several designs that are more or less doing what you're trying to do (judging from those pictures).

Didn't somebody already make an amazing 8 directional lighthouse? But nice job anyway!

Yes, it was Driscj, whose name and design is in the OP.

This thread is a place to share any design for a lighthouse using pistons, or to discuss any piston lighthouse designs. I will post images of any new, functioning lighthouses as they are presented, with proper credits going to their respective creators. If you see an image of your design here and do not wish for it to be posted, please let me know and I will remove it. Also, if you created a particular design and have proof that you created it before the one posted here, let me know and I'll credit you as well.

*Note: This design is the cleanest and most simple design, but at the cost of entire sides moving in series, not individual pistons.

Eight-Directional Piston Lighthouse Variant 1 (Made by Alnohir)

    Video:

*Note: This variant, though more compact than the original one by Driscj, suffers from an issue where one of the pistons in each corner remains unpowered, as shown below:

    Internal View:

Eight-Directional Piston Lighthouse Variant 3 (Made by Mistahtokyo)

    Diagonal View:

    Top View:

*Note: This variant suffers from an issue (due to limitations involved with using a four-repeater clock) in which two blocks per side will raise/lower at the same time.

Eight-Directional Piston Lighthouse Variant 4 (Made by Mistahtokyo)

    Top view:

    Diagonal View:

    Inside View:

Eight-Directional Piston Lighthouse Variant 5 (Made by Mistahtokyo)

    Top View:

    Diagonal View:

    Interior View (Top Section):

    Interior View (Midsection):

    Interior View (Bottom Section/Power Supply)

*Note: This design is the largest (vertically) of all the others, but it was created as such so that and eight-repeater clock could be used to power the lighthouse without making is larger horizontally. This has the benefit (unlike my Variant 3) in that all of the pistons move in sequence. The midsection can be extended/shortened as necessary to fit varying lighthouse heights.

I will add more designs and they come so feel free to discuss and learn!

can i have the sever ip?

Aren't the screenshots enough? I really don't feel like putting the world file up (I'm the server host, LAN server) because I don't want to share some of my creations with the public. Maybe I'll post a test world schematic later, but there is nothing that the screenshots don't already show.

Scratch that, it delays each side by a bit, but the total delays per side is still four... :/

I'll try looking at that design, but wiring up the pistons to it could prove to be too wide.

    I've created a method that's a bit better (4.5 ticks per side, I believe). Itr's a NOT clock, I think.

    Here's the clock:

can you give me your save to see what i can do

I'm on a server, but I'll link some pics. They're all from the 8-directional lighthouse thread, since that's what i newed this clock for.

Also, I think I got it. How much delay does a NOT gate have

Edit: Here's a link to the thread, the first images that I posted showcase the trget size of the lighthouse.
