Ideally, the players aren't forced to stop at medieval tech, but in no way can a single guy with heat and sharp objects build advanced stuff like hydraulic rams.

    qft
on top of that, it doesnt really make sense. I could figure out how to make a door, I could figure out how to make a sword, I could figure out how to make a furnace, i could figure out how to make a bow, BUT i couldnt figure out how to make a hydraulic ram. its that thing that annoys me, same thing with the idea of making a car.
the average guy doesnt know how to make an engine.

posted a message on is anybody else finding this adf.ly stuff really annoying?
Why do people care? Its waiting five seconds, and it doesnt hurt you. The only problems you could have are

    1. you are a retard and click on the ads.
    2. you are a retard and you dont realize your malware is causing viruses/pop-ups and not the website.

and 3. you dont want to give that random guy who links to youtube a dollar. which is the only good reason.

or you exploit the dumb ai and hide behind a corner.

This isn't always a good option, frankly. And those corners don't help anyone when you can't see them.

go around the corner so you see the mob but it doesnt see you, then kill it.
i honestly wish the ai would be smarter. it misses something NO ai should miss: pathfinding.

Sounds to me like you don't have a steady supply of torches ready to plop pretty much everywhere you go.

If you're relatively new to minecraft, a common thing not to know is that you can "smelt"/"cook" wood blocks in a furnace to get charcoal blocks, which can be used for making torches the same as coal if you don't have plenty.

Also, getting a bow and a full stack of arrows is a priority. I suggest investing time and effort into that.

Armor, ANY armor, tremendously increases your survival odds.

And if you have the gold, a watch is helpful for keeping yourself from getting caught away from your base when the sun goes down.

or you exploit the dumb ai and hide behind a corner.

posted a message on Dynamic shadows, possible?
    Quote from meepmeeps »
I mean, anything's possible, but it's probably a pain to code. I doubt anyone is working on it.

I think it would require a whole new lighting engine, as far as I understand it.
something like that has already been done, I think: the glsl-shaders.

Is it possible, or even in the works? I would honestly kill for it.

Note that I dont mean moving light, but that the shadows are realistic so they dont fall straight down no matter where the sun/lightsource is.
sorry if its been asked up already; google search only got me that mod with the moving lights.
