posted a message on Cannons !
    Idea for a mod:

    Cannons!

Crafted with 2 parts, the Barrel and the Base/Carrier.

They work exactly as you'd expect a basic iron smooth bore cannon to operate.

Each part is crafted separately, when combined gives you a 'Cannon-block'

After being placed in an open 3x3 area, the gun can be manually rotated by 'using' the different faces to change its angle or elevation.

The sides move it clock-wise or counter clockwise in a continuous 360 degrees.

The front / back change the angle of the cannon's barrel up or down (front goes up, rear goes downwards).

Loading is inserting however many units of gunpowder to increase the range and velocity of the projectile.
(the gunpowder is loaded permanently, until fired)

Once powder is added, a iron ball is loaded using the same procedure (only 1 unit at a time).

Firing is using the rear face with a Flint & Steel to 'ignite' the fuse - which will burn for a few seconds and fire the cannon.

The projectiles are composed of 2x2 units of iron bars - which yield several cannonballs.

    Questions to accomplished mod authors:

-Does Minecraft support blocks that are 'configurable' to this degree?
-Can placed entities be rotated ?
-Are there code examples and existing frameworks to provide a clean API for mods ?
-Would this need to be coded as a vehicle ?

    Does anyone know?

posted a message on [WIP] EvilMinecraft - Updating to 1.1, looking for more programmers!
I had an idea for a new mob (well sorta new).

    Elite Ninja Skeletons

They fire Flaming Arrows, have Demonic Red glowing eyes (X-Ray vision), and are masters of the Grappling Hook!
(Also just to make things interesting, they are wearing all-black garb)

The Grappling hook will be used if you are above the Skeleton, and its a 'climbable' material no more than 8 units high.
    (Climbable: Wood, Cobblestone, Fence)

When climbing the skeleton can't attack or change its orientation.

The flaming arrows, work like regular arrows (except they glow and can ignite flammable objects sometimes).

Thought they would fit right in with this mod.

Seems like a pretty good server, starting city is well executed.

posted a message on Building a high-speed Nether rail line to the Far Lands
Has anyone considered a Hybrid Rail-Portal system using the advantages of precision placed portal-pairing to allow quick 'backwards' (or forwards) travel to the start or end points ?

    e.g.

Having a central "railway" with paired-portals on either side (less than a chunk away), with each set having a 'direction' - (one set goes forwards, the other goes back).

This would ideally allow resupply quickly from the main base, and allow people to get to the Construction-end much quicker.

Has anyone tried to make a fast Nether travel portal network?

This would be VERY helpful for a combined Nether-Rail / unidirectional Portal network.

Lets see him carry a block of burning netherrack!

From my obsidian spire... (once I build it...), I'll bet Endermen burn like everything else in LAVA.

Perhaps some TNT + pressure plate defenses.

(It'd be nice if 1.8 had some new tools or weapons to use against these bizarre creatures)

posted a message on Memory leaks..
Minecraft does not "leak" memory noticeably.

It does however work best with ~ 1 GIGABYTE (more is probably wasted, less is probably Ill advised).

Which really isn't that much these days.

(IIRC only about 500-600MB actually allocated - I just feed the JVM extra to keep it happy).
