Nov 5, 2011McKathlin posted a message on A New Way of Learning With MinecraftThe website is new, and doesn't have many examples yet for how to use Minecraft for teaching, but the desertification/tropification exercise sounds interesting, and the platform has potential. I can see Minecraft being used to teach math, build puzzles for problem solving, serve as an alternate artistic medium, or provide the setting for a role play to bring a history lesson to life. I'm sure there are a lot of other possibilities I haven't thought of yet. I definitely want to follow these guys and see what the MinecraftEdu developers and users come up with.Posted in: News

Oct 4, 2011McKathlin posted a message on Minecraft Minute: Skyblock Challenge AcceptedThis is quite a posh setup you have here, Mrs. Brisby. I'm quite impressed with your dedication, building out so wide, and making everything so useful and beautiful.Posted in: News
It's amazing how much you can do with just a few starting materials. For a bit I wondered, How'd you get all the wool? And all the flowers and colors? Then I realized, that's the monster harvester at work: the wool is actually spider silk, and the flowers, 100% bonemeal-grown.
Way to ace the challenge with style. -

Bugs I have found:
I can't eat...right click with food doesn't do anything.
Furnace locks up game with 'loading chunks' screen
Hold the right mouse button. Eating takes time now, and is animated...sorta. :smile.gif:
The eating-takes-time thing is no doubt to keep people from rapid-fire eating their stacked food. - To post a comment, please login.

Or you could extend the castle walls themselves downward.
I've noticed that commonly, builders of impressive castles go all out and build each part in epic size. Your build in particular would look better, I think, if it were taller. A large build gives plenty of room for decorative elements that unify the design and give it a unique style.
Of the details your build has so far, my favorite is the stairs with the streams of water running beside it. Incorporating waterfalls as a decorative motif throughout your castle design might look really cool. I'd also like to see you play a bit more with the Nether Brick and obsidian that you're using as design accents. They contrast a lot with stone so they're hard to make look right, but they could lead to something really interesting if done well.

If you'd like to advertise your server, then you're in the wrong subforum. Pick the appropriate Servers subforum instead. If you follow the forum rules and put effort into your posts, your work will be much more likely to get the attention it deserves.
EDIT: Also, please be aware that we on the Internet can only follow links to the worldwide Web (http://), not links to files on your home computer (file:///). Many free image hosting sites can help you get your pictures on the Web. I use Photobucket.com; others use imgur.com; there are many others as well. Get an account on the image hosting site of your choice, upload your pictures to the site, and use the links the site gives you for them.

Some stylistic differences within a pack can make sense, if there's a reason behind it. For instance, constructed blocks might use straighter lines than natural blocks. (This is mostly the case in your pack; it makes sense.) Interactive blocks (like crafting tables, ladders, and chests) or uncommon blocks (like diamond block or redstone lamp) might be drawn in greater detail or brighter colors than plain blocks (like cobblestone and dirt). Or not. Consider what looks good and makes sense to you and other Minecraft players.
So my advice is to think through what kind of style or mood you want your texture pack to have; consider how each block compares to the look you're going for, and whether it looks like it would belong in the same work of art as the other blocks. Then change what doesn't fit. And get all the honest feedback you can. You're on to something good; I wish you the best as you keep developing it.

Hooray! I'm glad we'll get to see this idea implemented whether or not Mojang does it themselves.

As of August 15. Notch stated it on Twitter: http://twitter.com/notch/statuses/235746965823033345

Notch and ez aren't together anymore...
...In good news, the latest snapshot has pigs eating carrots and chickens eating seeds. Yay!

I agree; "Medieval" doesn't fit this tower. "Fantastical" (like from a fantasy) would be a better descriptor. A post title change is in order, at the very least. How about we help Codewow come up with a name for this tower? I'm going to call it the Tower of Spectacle until someone comes up with a better name.

Thanks for the welcome! My husband (though he loves other computer games) isn't as much into Minecraft as I am. If he does take an interest, I'll let him know where to apply.
EDIT: If I like what I see on this server, I'll put in a good word for it with other family and friends I play with.

Age: 29 (By the way, I like that this server is family-friendly and welcomes all ages.)
Country: USA
Describe yourself: I'm a software engineer, married to a fellow computer nerd. I love to create beautiful things and help others with their projects. The vanilla server I admin for my family and friends is my pride and joy. This is my first time branching out to play with members of the Minecraft community that I haven't met IRL.

I'm looking forward to joining you all once the server is back up, if you'd like to have me.

EDIT: Deadalready's thread on interior design is also helpful and chock-full of ideas.

The woods and fountains on the north side of town came out looking especially nice. Much of the rest of the town is rather plain; you may want to take a bit more Minecraft artistic license and add some decorative details.

This sounds like a good request to take to the Servers/Looking For forum. Good luck!
