posted a message on A once successful farm goes strangely wrong.

Just tried a second time and same thing - having tested with a non-charged creeper and that worked fine, of course...

Anyway I at least got a head this time.

I've attached an image of the setup. Behind the open trapdoor you can see the mobs. The creeprs come down the corridor and into the water. Whichever one is furthest forwards is the one I hit once its charged up.

I'm thinking of rigging up some kind of piston contraption to force them down into the water when I hit them with the flint and steel.

Oh the lower block under the trapdoor is normally removed- just place for extra security whilst I re-build everything.

Simple hostile mob farm for every thing except spiders. AFK spot 120 blocks above. Mobs travel up water elevator - over a couple of blocks and drop down 25 or thereabouts onto a hopper where I kill them. All fine.

Modified farm to harvest records - water travelling across hopper through 2 high gap with trap door on top so that only creepers can pass through. I stand 5 blocks from creepers and 11 from skeletons trapped behind trapdoor. Skeletons shot at me - hit the creepers. Perfect - all 12 records got within an hour or so.

Modified again to harvest mob-heads - creepers washed out but drop down one block into water on top of hopper. Creepers bouncing around in water. Wait for 4 days (real time) for a thunderstorm - hit first creeper with trident - 6 creepers charged up. Decide to test insitu. Spark the first one with flint and steel and then run back out of range down corridor I made specifically for the purpose. Creeper blows up and takes out most of the building, the chests, the hoppers...

I'm left standing on 3 blocks isolated and have to build my way back to what remains of my afk spot. Now I thought a creeper in water doesn't damage surrounding blocks. What????

Just to cap it all off - no head. May have missed it in gathering up all the stuff from the surrounding environs but damn - that did not go as planned!

Question - if the creeper is bouncing in water and explodes at the top of its bounce would that mean its not in water and therefore damages blocks? I can't think of any other reason this would happen.

Try getting another mapping software installed and see if that shows the slime chunk in the same location. I use Amidst from time to time.

I don't know what version you are running but I'm finding mapping software isn't all that reliable with 1.13. I went to a location marked as an Ocean Temple and there was nothing there. Sadly its possible you are in the wrong chunk. There may be another explanation of course but nothing really springs to mind.

posted a message on How to push mobs into water elevators?

    ist,

Prior to 1.13 I had only ever seen one charged creeper and that was in the first few weeks of playing minecraft. I had no idea at the time how rare they were.

Now I make them for fun with the enchanted trident (channeling enchantment I think). Just have to be patient waiting for a thunderstorm. I'm thinking of setting up a wither head harvesting station as blowing them up with a charged creeper guarantees a head drop. TangoTek has set one up on this season of Hermitcraft - I'll probably do a similar design if I can find a handy nether fortress.

Had the same problem and never got a satisfactory solution so in the end I just put an ice block there and left the mobs to push each other in. Generally it means there is one hanging around most of the time but it doesn't seem to affect spawn rates on my hostile mob / record / charged creeper farm.

I am currently hanging around in my afk spot 120 blocks above the farm waiting with 15 creepers for a thunder storm.

With leads - stop regularly and wait for the animal to catch up - particularly when ascending. Try to keep the mob within about 6 blocks and the lead shouldn't break ever. Also for things like cows - have wheat in your other hand, carrots for pigs and so on.

I led a train of 6 Llamas over a mountain not long ago - very slowly - one on the lead and the other 5 following along. Didn't lose one. Patience is key.

Scorp's list looks decent but I'd go for fire protection on the boots as you already have protection on the chest plate. If you are switching out the chestplate for elytra then protection on the helmet and fire protection on the boots.

You need to break at least 2 bedrock blocks and then put a portal with its base where they used to be. There are a couple of mechanisms for doing this involving headless pistons. Its complicated and a pain but it is doable if you find a good youtube video and follow the instructions exactly.

Also you used to be able to place a minecart one layer below the highest bedrock block and jump in and out onto the top. You do/did take some damage that way but it worked. Not sure it still does.

Moving mobs is still tricky but its much easier than it used to be. We have more options. I have built sealed tunnels through the nether. Long rail lines. Taken them by boat, by water stream, pushed them, pulled them and once even dumped them one at a time into a flying machine (just to see if it worked - which it did if the villagers were in a minecart).

The big change is water streams now being able to take mobs upwards - something that was always tricky.

Yup - I found out entirely by accident - double clicking in frustration one time so I got the water and then the fish. Once you know the trick its really easy after that. Its an achievement too.

That's the thing about Minecraft - we each get our own worlds to play with. I originally built my iron farm on it thinking that would mean no hostile spawns but it seems that if you have a large number of doors "swarms" of zombies do spawn - even there. That's why I moved iron production to the ocean.

Funny isn't it - I did all this just a few years ago on another minecraft world but had forgotten all about the trials and tribulations there till this thread made it all come back to me.

I had the breeder on the island - the iron farm over the ocean and the automated storage back on the island underneath the breeder (which was the iron farm initially). I had water streams ferrying iron back into the sorter and rail networks to carry villagers out there in the first place.

As a side note I don't think I'll ever use rails to move villagers again. The new water elevator mechanic makes moving large numbers of villagers so easy. Individually they travel slower but you can just keep pushing them in one after another. Its also hilarious to watch a long line of villagers bobbing up and down on a stately trip to wherever (usually the iron farm for me).

Funnily enough just took a look at mine and its actually not in the mushroom biome but in the ocean biome next to it. I forgot I put it over the sea. My breeder is on the mushroom island itself.

I wouldn't describe the mushroom biome as nice though - I grassed mine over completely and then built multiple structures on it including a railway going all the way round just so I could try my hand at making a proper suspension bridge.

16 in a night is very impressive. I generally get between 3 and 6 with 8 being the most ever. On the other hand I'm just swatting them as I see them and dont have a trap as such - beyond the bow and the sword.

I think Dragon already knew that.

Actually I have an AFK spot for my hostile mob farm with a glass block roof. When I come back to it after a few hours, and its night, the skies are filled with phantoms that crash into the glass continuously. That implies it has to be solid blocks to count as a roof - no idea what would happen with a slab roof.
