I think what everyone missed here is that diamond axes are now renewable.
Trade emeralds to an NPC for diamond axes. Emeralds are renewable via iron ingot/book trading.
EDIT:
Melons are now obtainable outside of mineshafts.
Villagers are awesome.
DOUBLEEDIT: REDSTONE IS RENEWABLE
3X EDIT COMBO: BOTTLES O' ENCHANTING ARE PURCHASABLE

Damn. I hate that. I really, really hope it's removed. Cookies are supposed to be trophies of your dungeon conquering skills. What's next? Craftable saddles? Probably. Soon enough we will be able to craft mossy stone... unfortunately...
Oh no! What will we ever do!
Wait, why is this even bad? -

If the map starts at layer 5, ALL slime chunks will produce slimes, and they appear at ANY brightness. -

My point is that the old generator wasn't "cool", it produced "mountains" that looked more like bent thumbs and put flat ground NOWHERE.
Seriously, there were basically no large flat areas. Terraforming was necessary to build anything large, but the fastest we could mine at was "Unenchanted diamond pickaxe" so no one ever built cool houses EXCEPT IN MIDAIR OR THE OCEAN WHERE THERE WASN'T ANY TERRAIN IN THE WAY.

For example, last week I made the Ghastpuncher equipment set. This week, I can give the set pieces names (Jump Attack x1 for the potions, Fallbreaker for the boots, etc.) and Lore (The potions will say "Drink this and then jump at a nearby ghast.", the shoes will say "These absorb some of the damage you'll take from landing. You'll still need to use the health potions, though." and the sword will say "While under the influence of Jump Attack, a swing from this sword will kill a ghast in a single blow."

Maybe you should try to look for solutions before blaming the developers.

Well, damage values, enchantments, and book names/contents don't work in trading, so I doubt this will.

you can get cool terrain there, but not huge hills
they need some kind of generated structure

right now they have villages, and surface ravines

That's ALWAYS worked for every item.
I meant the tag for dyed armor.

(If they don't already.)

The current generator DOES have the potential for cool worlds.
Glacier actually looks terrible. I don't know why people care so much.
I deleted a world I made in the latest snapshot because it had an overhang that was over 100 blocks long and 20 blocks wide.

Painsquids are less dangerous than normal squids, sadly.
