posted a message on Thaumcraft 6.1.BETA26 [no longer being developed]

Years I've been gone from Minecraft, longer since I checked this forum...only the rare glimpse into old servers with old friends, to see what new tidbits Mojang had added, before hopping off after a half-hour or so. Yet in all that time, I knew that if I ever returned to Minecraft, your creation, your masterpiece would be one of the only key certainties to where I would decide to start, Azanor. I don't think that I ever will play this game like I once did, but what you created in Thaumcraft inspired me deeply, and was one of the very first sources I used to begin understanding game development at a deeper level. Your dedication to intricate lore, hinting at things beyond what the player can yet learn...your constant focus on bringing actions out of GUIs and into the world itself, while still understanding what's better-handled without that transition...and perhaps most of all, your establishment of a sense of permanence in progress and growth as the player delves into your work...I've seen whole games not reach this level of cohesive quality, let alone a mod for a game that seems to do everything in its power to hinder their development. So know that in any future projects of mine, no matter how big or small, I'll be thinking back in some way to my days sitting by a distiller, waiting for crafting tables to break down so I could crack open a bit more reasearch.

Thank you, Azanor, for everything that you've done, and everything you will do for the world of gaming. We stand now on the shoulders of giants, and one of them happens to be a raygun-toting jellyfish. Stay safe, keep your chin up, and enjoy all the wonders life holds for you in these coming days.

...why do people still post here? This version of the mod is dead...as in, no more updates, no support. Nobody is going to help you. It's done. Go check out Legend Gear 2 if you want updated content.

I got a good laugh out of this. I believe its got something to do with how the line on the back of the dragon changed or something.

Due to recent changes in 1.9 and the dragon fight. From what I know the line that was located on the back of the dragon is now like around a block space above its back.

So I would imagine that a saddle on a 1.9 dragon would be misplaced, or triangular.

I may be completely wrong about all that though, but I do question if it is even possible for a dragon mount anymore.

Dragon Mounts uses a completely separate model from the Vanilla Ender Dragon, so that's of no issue whatsoever.

once the mod comes out i may make a 1.7 port for myself, but i'm not going to distribute it because i'm not in the mood for getting sued ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    1. You can't get sued for copying someone's mod, as they can't copyright it. You can, however, get a C&D and have your copied mod taken down.
    2. Why not just backport it and send the file to these guys to distribute? I'm sure they wouldn't mind someone else doing some work for them, and I would love to be able to include this in my 1.7.10 modpack at some point.

Sure thing...err.. how exactly should I go about getting that to you?

Edit: So on a hunch, I took Optifine HD D1 (for 1.7.10) out of the modpack and now the world is playable again. It COULD still be a thaumcraft problem, but the other problem I had (when it didnt crash) was that when I enter the world, the screen would go black to the point where I couldn't even see the menu when pausing the game.. the buttons would be functional, but I wouldn't be able to see anything. The only way around it would be to guess where the "Save & quit to title" button is and click it blindly. But yea, I'll still send you the playerdata.. I just don't know how to get that to you lol

That's a bug with Optifine D1. Switching back to C1 should solve several of your issues.

I am back after along time when are you updating this mod to 1.8 or 1.9?

Its because I want to play this mod with the latest version of minecraft and other mods.

I'd honestly prefer everything be ironed out in 1.7, first. With the rate Minecraft is going, by the time the mod is fully updated to 1.8 or 1.9, Vanilla will have updated to 1.10.

I've been out of town for months until a few weeks ago, it's a minor fix that we won't push an update for until we're ready to push a few more fixes. More details as we figure that stuff out, no time frame for now other than soon, sorry.

This kind of patience is why you're the CM.

It's my name so I should be able to change it how I feel or the name can't be changed (new account then is required).
But changing the name after a 30d period is bad because of such things and it can be that the new name isn't that name
which you wanted. So you went back and try another one ... oh wait, I've to wait 30d for the next change? No, not with me!

Well, I think wie can discuss over this a life long but I think we should stop at this point. I've my meaning and you hav your ones
    and all is fine ;).

The thirty day limit is in place to stop people from changing their username constantly, which prevents trolls from being able to constantly assume a new identity to pester other players. They're forced to keep their new name for a certain duration, which leaves them accountable to it for that long. It's also designed so that your old username is still only usable by you for a few days after your name change probation is up.
And yes, Mojang has every right to tell you what you can and can't do with their game features on their account servers. So they want to say you can't name change? You can't name change. Be grateful you get to do so to begin with - for the longest time, you were stuck with what you made when you started.
And if the owner of the server you're playing on seriously can't figure out how to rename a file, you should probably go find a different server to play on, because that's downright frightening.

As to the ongoing topic of multi-dimensional Flux, I think it would be most practical to simply have it affect things more violently in other dimensions. Consider this fact: the Nether and End are, inherently, far more magical places than the Overworld. They contain many mystical properties which leave them saturated in magical energies, so much so that they both have a unique "flavor" of magic all their own (Infernum and Alienis respectively). Doesn't it then make sense that Flux, which is magical potential gone wrong, would react more violently and catastrophically when exposed to the increased magical potential of those two dimensions? And, furthering that, if someone were daft enough to cause Flux in the Outer Lands, I imagine it would have even more terrifying consequences. That realm is quite literally as close as a Thaumaturge can get to the very source of magic without becoming an Eldritch being themselves.

Close, but not quite. It's if Zhark gets $500/month, he'll allow it in packs. I still think this is a bit silly.

I think so too, 500$ is alot of money. I know alot of people like the mod but getting 500$ a month for it is a bit much i think...

    Anyway thanx :)

    Quote from Robijnvogel»

Considering the size of the mod and the conflicts this could cause with other mods, I think Dr. Zhark is considering it to become a full-time occupation if he is to promise to try and make it fully compatible with everything else. In that case, a 500$ per month patreon is not that ridiculous.

However, even Chickenbones, who coded some of the most used mods (CCC and NEI) isn't getting that kind of money.

Amen to this. The fact that he doesn't allow it in modpacks is actually a very probably reason he isn't getting more money from it. Personally, I'm disinclined to even use the mod for that very reason, in spite of the tremendous quality and amount of work behind it, much less donate to contribute to its development. I honestly think he'd see a lot more support and patronage if he changed his stance on these things.
Of course, I'm also one to say that almost all mods should be open-sourced at some point, but I don't see that happening either..
