I'm certainly not a redstone expert, but this seems like it could work. I'm generally open to suggestons for copper, in part because it's seeming to be increasingly... not all that useful considering it's an entire new metal. All the other types have uses in armor, tools, and unique blocks and items- making metals such as iron and gold pretty darn useful. I know copper is a new thing, but thusfar the only uses we've seen for it are some decorative blocks, and the spyglass.

That being said, I'd be a bit cautious about changing such a fundamental aspect. I think I'd rather see copper used in new redstone components than used to make such a big change to redstone.

You never know, they may introduce it later on in copper development after they've already made a few more additions to how copper can be used. After all, the Smithing Table was only a decoration block in 1.14 Java and 1.11 Bedrock, and wasn't a functional block until 1.16 arrived. I personally don't think it'll make as big a change to Redstone as you may think. The idea is to transmit power over longer distances as (thanks to user CannonFoddr) well as vertically, all in parallel allowing lanes of directional power travel. A lot of the current Redstone blocks including Repeaters, Comparators and such, will still need a Redstone dust signal to work.

This actually sounds a bit like a suggestion I did a while back (not going to repeat it here) except in my suggestion it was mainly to produce a block to allow vertical connections between redstone dust lanes instead of torch towers.

Since my suggestion shows the 'wire' touching normal blocks powered by redstone dust we wouldn't need a special terminal, since these wires get 'powered' in a similar way to Repeaters etc.. if it's touching a powered block - It's powered

This means any block powered by redstone dust/repeater/comparator etc acts as a terminal & has 5 other faces where a 'wire' can be attached to

If we REALLY need a 'terminal block' for wires - why not just use the Copper block ??

IMHO my suggestion still stands however now that we have copper then using that instead of Blaze rods seems a more logical way of crafting

(FYI - I used Lightning rod as 'Copper wire' in the picture just as an example, which actually makes a bit more sense than adding another new block )

I didn't see your original post, then again I only searched the forums using "copper wire", "copper" and "wire" and didn't see anything even remotely to my idea so I decided to post. However I read your original post and yes they are both very similar. I hope that Mojang does add these features and uses to copper, and if they do you should be the main contributor to the concept. 😁👍

I understand, but they still can be used as redstone replacement in any case where the wire doesn't need to turn or split.
I want the wire/pipe crafting recipe to involve redstone AND copper.
Also, have in mind that tripwires float in the air whenever connected to tripwire hooks or not.

What about: 9 x raw copper -> 1 copper ingot -> 16 copper wire. Then 1 x copper wire + 1 x Redstone dust = 1 x Redstone wire. That way you're incorporating Redstone into wire crafting, though still require some kind of terminal to connect the wire between, as well as converting Redstone power in dust to the wire, and visa-versa?

I already knew wire as is floats in air. My original concept of copper wire was only being placed on top of full blocks, or top half slabs just like dust is now. Having wire float in air, as if it's hanging, could not only be practicable, but to those who only plays creative and builds stuff for art may also find purely decorative uses for floating copper/Redstone wire.

My bad for not making it clear. I'm not suggesting copper wire replace redstone dust, but more for working alongside redstone. Currently if you wanted to have lanes of dust run alongside each other but without interacting with each other, you'd need to have the dust at differently Y levels with a full block on top to stop the dust connecting to each other from the side.

But with wire, you can have them next to each other at the same Y level without fear of them powering the wire next to them. However having wires connected in the air just like tripwires can do now is a good idea.

Having recently watched a Pixlriffs video discussing copper, I thought to add a suggestion with how to use copper. If Mojang goes down the route of using copper like its IRL counterpart, my suggestion is to be able to craft copper wire where 9 x raw copper makes 1 copper ingot, and 1 copper ingot makes 16 copper wire (stackable up to 64).

The uses with copper wire is that, since copper is an extremely good electrical conductor, copper wire can be used to transmit Redstone power without any loss in the power level, regardless if the power is set to 1 or 15 it doesn't matter. Transmit 15 on one end, receive 15 at the other end. However unlike its IRL version, have copper wire not be able to go around corners. Copper wire has to be placed between two points in the same manner as tripwire and hooks. I think adding a Redstone convertor, or Redstone terminal, which has a single Redstone input on one side, and has a copper wire connection on the other side. The player would then need to place 2 terminals first then run the copper wire between them.

The benefits I envision are, no power loss throughout the wire, and while the wire cannot bend around corners, it doesn't transmit power to blocks to either side, even if they are copper wire blocks themselves. They have to be connected front and back between the terminals to transmit. This may help make smaller and more efficient Redstone machines as you can have lines of copper wire running back and forth without effecting what is to the side.

Additionally, if someone really wanted to be able to split that copper wire power off to one side, maybe add a splitter which, for the purposes of block placement, acts as a terminal you can right click on to place copper wire, but you can run wire from all 4 sides to a terminal to convert the power back into a Redstone signal.
