Actually if I remember right, the only reason PETA became aware of Super Meat Boy and went after it, was because the creator used assumed names on the internet, and complained to them how evil and anti animal and stuff that SMB was. (Which I believe he said on his twitter.)
As retarded as PETAs add campaigns are (something that might possibly actually be worse than EA) and the mentality behind it, minecraft should be out of harms way... Should be. Unless someone went and poked the beehive so to speak. Then again, all that ever did was promote the game.
I've tried out that mod right before the last update and I have to say:
The mobs are completely unbalanced and seem like it would cause more problems as it currently is, however he may take ideas from that mod and develop them further, which would not be a bad thing.
I like the massive trees, they look.... fittingly awesome.
Also those statues that person somewhat above me posted are very epic as well.
I've not played in a few days, but my last update looked a little something like this.

I mean,They are big,scary and threatening over our lives.
They are killing inocent animals,destroying houses and they are not ready to talk with us the humens.
They have gunpowder in there creepy pockets,and they are exploading when ever they want,without thinking the damage the have done.

Also, do note that creepers don't kill innocent animals intentionally, or explode whenever they want. They have very specific conditions for exploding, infidel.
This was one of the first things I had thought about when I first started playing this game. Especially after seeing the old indev maps. However, it makes sense why the maps are limited in height as they are (though if they could be made taller without the inherent issues that would be amazing.)
As others have said, gold ore is impure gold, that needs the magic of refining. Where as in real life you would use chemical solutions and such, minecraft uses the all blessed fires to purge the--------- err back on topic.

Yeah. I hadn't actually done the "save and quit to title" kind of saving, but I had hit escape and let it sit there while I got stuff to eat, went to bathroom, etc. I had just let it sit there running when I left for the shower, though.
