    posted a message on Making your server lag less (by tuning Java settings)
    Just a quick newb question. I basically understand very little with modding and scripting in any language, and am attempting to go to school for it to become a bit less stupid. If I understand this correctly, which I hope, all I should really do is add all of the lines to the server.bat file I made to make the SMP server run a bit smoother correct?

    Only other question I have is; how do you do this for the SSP mode? My SMP server runs fairly well since I have a damn beefy PC,( I'm waaaaaay better with hardware than software ) but my SSP is super laggy in comparison. I have no qualms about admitting my shortcomings, but I'd appreciate more help than flaming.

    There are a lot more out there than you might think. Starcraft 2 did it, tabula rasa, hellgate:london, MOH, a few RTS games. There are more, but I'm gonna be lazy. I could also point you in the direction of some MMO's that are asking people to pay for keys early so they can do exactly what notch is doing.

    Five, exactly, and one of them was never released. I may also mention that SC2 was beta when people first started to pay and play.

    They have ONE kit example, and a bad one at that. It's broken down into several steps yes, but has confused several people. Like I sad before, it does not look like, based on syntax and grammar, that the OP has a perfect grasp of english and there may be a sort of language barrier. If I told you to go play a game in french and to write a few scripts in said game with the knowledge that you understood basic french, should I really expect you to give me a wonderfully coded script one your first try? Try thinking from more than one angle.

    @Kamokazi
    Don't be a jackass, some people just learn differently. Just because you can read and understand what the documentation says, does not mean this guy does. Doesn't really look like english is his first language either, so cut the guy some slack and actually TRY to help him out.

    @scribbles4
    I don't really use many kits at all, but I can help you with the format or set a few up if you wish to PM me with what you would like. Glycerine put down how to do it easily, but for someone who has never scripted before, it can look confusing.

    One HUGE point all of you seem to be missing. The game is in ALPHA. Hell, it isn't even beta yet, so why are you so concerned about what is lacking in a game that is still being developed? How many games have the rest of you played that have been open or closed beta? Were they finished? Did it help to rant and rave, and leave unhelpful criticism?

    At this point in the WIP, criticism should always be constructive and HELP the creator (who, by the way, is actually listening to his community more than anyone I've ever seen) instead of just flaming him and anyone that disagrees with your opinion. Basically, instead of doing nothing but bitching and moaning in the official forums about things that have yet to be fully implemented, give proper "here's what I did and found good/bad and reasons why" kinds of posts to help speed the process along.

    If you still feel the overwhelming urge to ***** or flex your epeen, go to an off-topic forum and rant away.

    It looks like every "tile" that you can see on the map is a 2x2 square. After firing up the game, it seems to be just about right. I would use those measurements myself, but that's really up to you. I have done a little recreation of stuff from other games like Zelda for fun, and it's turned out ok. I would say that you should try to keep from using a texture pack to recreate the city to give yourself a challenge.

    posted a message on For people using Time Warner!!!
    Since last week, my port 25565 has been blocked by TW themselves, and they refuse to unblock the port. If you are running a server locally and are having issues with people joining, just go to your server.properties list and change the port to something else. Personally, I changed it to one that I use for other stuff and that I know is open. This has been pissing me off for 2 weeks now until I finally got an answer from TW. I went so far as to DMZ 4 machines, got a new router, got 4 new IP's, and damn near kicked my cat before I got an answer. Now, everything works just fine. I just thought that all of you might want a heads-up in case you use them as well.

    posted a message on Minecraft laggier than Fallout 3: New Vegas
    I really disagree with you on this. Why? Because I was running both today for about 10 hours. I set myself up in my mob trap in minecraft, went into my inventory, then alt-tabbed out to play me some new vegas. Both ran perfectly until steam decided to do an update which made my new vegas crash and lose all of my saves.

    posted a message on A power outage nuked my entire world...
    I JUST had my PC freeze on me while playing. After I came back, I had lost my world 1, and had never backed it up (I know dumb right?). So, I started a "new" world one using the same slot etc.... After about 5 min, I noticed a line of torches from where my spawn was. I was a bit bewildered until I figured out that they were actually some waypoints I made while roaming around. I ended up following them back to my original house, only to find a giant gaping hole in the ground where it used to be. While I am glad I didn't lose my 100 hours of game, I am kinda bewildered by this new bug.

    Have any of the rest of you seen anything like this? Did I just get lucky?

    *edit
    It also moved my spawn point quite a considerable distance away from my original one, and my game file shows up as 0. g0 MB when I go to select it.

    I know I had to repatch mine 4 times before it finally worked, but I still don't get a minimap in the game itself. I really just need to figure out how to get it to show up on my secondary monitor when I toggle minecraft into fullscreen.
