One it seems lazy. A lot of people will suspect he isn't pulling his weight if he starts incorporating mods. the lazy way out, letting other people make his game for him. people will question his ability and to be honest, getting kicked out of something you originally started is a really bad feeling.
Two. There will be conflicts with the mod creators. Say notch implements mo ogres, but then nerfs the ogres to only destroy natural stuff. There is now a conflict between him and the mod owner. Who gets the final call? What if he contacts them and they disagree on a fundamental aspect of minecraft? What if the mod creator is upset about the nerf and withdraws his approval?
I dunno, it looks shopped. That thing in the water doesn't look right. I can tell because of the pixels and from having seen quite a few shops in my time.
I haven't heard anything about Notch mentioning it but I have heard the word Aether before. (and I also heard it was related to a mod, -runecraft?- so I have my doubts against it.) Links/proof or I bash your unsupported claims. Seems fair to me.
Friendly creepers, Nice ghasts?
This should be proof enough.
edit: Darn boards

edit: YES i'm so smart i quoted a post to figure it out. the aether is mentioned at approx 55:30
Actually it's Aether, and I heard it somewhere too. I am CERTAIN it was by Notch, as I remember him mentioning that he was going to try to implement it in a more useful way than the nether, with a variety of blocks and actually useful block types.
No offense to anyone, but I'd like to see something more complete for the Nether first...
Incidentally in the actual quote he said he would put off adding it because the nether wasn't done yet. it was asked by coestar on one of his recent livestreams at about 55:00.
Not really imo. having played runescape for four years and seeing their (larger) company do a decent content update every four to six weeks i'd say notch is doing fine by my low standards. (not that runescape did a superstellar job either but I'd put the two teams as about par.)
Real life time-lines and discoveries don't apply to fictional universes. So far human history has a pretty poor sampling rate, we have only seen it rise once and we have no idea what different ways it could have risen. It is silly to say that our history should dictate how technology should develop in minecraft.
so what ur saying were the german scientist who invented tnt and we decided not to? and if a timeline does not exist in minecraft then we should have lazer guns bud
I'm saying that real-life timelines are separate from game timelines. Technology could have developed in a very different way if history was given another go.

while i do actually like the concept of walking around in a large coal-fueled pumps-and-gears-and-exhaust vents-and-and-pipes-golem-looking power suit (with boots for jumping, helmet for light in the dark, pants for speed, armor thats... fireproof? lavaproof? and of course the sword that lights people on fire), i would rather see this as a mod rather then something implemented in the actual game.
i rather like the base game to have simple elements then larger complex ones.
mostly because the game itself isn't that hard that you need super-gear. we have diamond gear already that makes things, IMO, easy enough as is.
Stronger gear opens up available space for more challenges.
I don't think zombies deserve a superpower. they work fine as a vanilla mob and contrary to popular belief, plain and simple is often better than needlessly complicated.
The changelog should in theory keep neebs from posting spam on the boards. In theory, because they hopefully use the launcher to play minecraft.
Heh, glance at the screenshot again - it's got a link for forums. If anything, it'll drive traffic to here. (assuming he's not starting up his own official forums)
Gah, you are correct. It isn't a changelog but instead just the release notes from his tumblr.
