Let's be honest, if they didn't monetize the game in some way, we would just get "sequels" and be up to like Minecraft 4 by now. In my case, I bought PE on Android at release when it was on sale for 10¢ and then the Win 10 edition for $10. Spending ten bucks for a game and then receiving SIGNIFICANT updates over several years is unheard of! Without monetization, the game would die off and stop receiving updates. Monetization also helps the community's content creators by giving them a way to make money just like app developers and musicians on their respective platforms. I would rather see Minecraft live on forever with in-app-purchases than receive endless sequel after sequel in a different attempt to make money. Expecting everything for free is greedy and selfish, and we need to stop collectively whining that the people who work on this amazing piece of software want to be paid for their work and feed their families.

    Totally agree with you.

The whiners who think everything should be free just don't realise that constantly developing the game for years on end costs money. There are things like wages to pay plus other costs. Without optional microtransactions they would eventually run out of money and development of the game would stop.

It's better to have optional microtransactions funding the continued development of the game than have sequels being spawned every year.

On the Nintendo Switch you need to pay a monthly fee for the Nintendo WFC. Also, the Xbox One S has the same 4K stuff as the X. I still think that this is just trying to nag your money away.

The Xbox one S doesn't have the same 4k stuff.

The S is only 4k for video like Netflix or bluray 4k. If games are displayed in 4k they are just upscaled.

But still strange, on win10 edition mobs are way fewer....

They don't seem that way to me. One of the first things I noticed when I first used the Windows 10 version was the sheer amount of mobs.

It doesn't seem that different to the xbox one beta to me.

I have different worlds on each but there are still a lot of mobs.

I suppose it could seem different if you have a different chunk rendering set on both.

My xbox one is set to maximum 22 chunks while my underpowered laptop is only set to 6 but there are loads of mobs even in that 6 chunks. And I really like it like that.

Seriously the legacy console editions seems massively gimped in comparison. It's great that in the Windows 10 and Xbox beta I can actually find endermen and getting blaze rods is no longer an agonising chore because the blaze spawners work properly in the beta. On console it can be frustrating waiting by a blaze spawner and in a few minutes only a couple of blazes spawn and neither of them drop rods on death.

First of all the store is optional. You dont have to buy anything.

Secondly you only need Xbox Live gold to play multiplayer on Xbox One. On other platforms you don't need gold, you only need an xbox live free acount. In fact if you have windows 8 or 10 its very likely you already have one as a microsoft account is more or less an xbox live account.

As for your comment on the Xbox One X. So what if it has the same features as the S. It's $200 more expensive because it's far more powerful. Again you don't have to buy one. Its optional because all xbox one games will work on all three xbox one models. Its just that games may have enhanced graphics on the X

I'm glad there are more mobs.

On the original xbox one edition getting enough of anything was a nightmare due to the lack of mobs.

I could never complete an ender portal or even have many ender chests due the the fact that endermen were so rare.

Zombie villagers were extremely rare which made it difficult to turn my settlement into a village

Then there were the blaze spawners.

After waiting a while for a blaze to spawn it often wouldn't drop anything making it annoying getting blaze rods.

Now in better together the blaze spawners work overtime spawning 3 blazes at a time meaning getting blaze rods are no longer a chore.

After playing better together I can't believe how bad the console editions were.

I used to look at youtube videos of mob farms and could never get them working properly on console due to the stupid mob caps. Maybe now i'll have better luck.

Yep. Although if the ps4 does ever get the BTU then they probably will kill the legacy console versions.

Q: What is going to happen to the old console edition?

A: The old console edition will not be available for new purchase after the full release of Minecraft on Xbox One and Switch. Existing owners will still be able to access and play the old console version and minigames, but those versions will not receive updates after the official release of Minecraft.

From Mojang's Better Together FAQ: https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/better-together-faq

That's pretty much an "official source"... official enough for me anyway.

That was referring to the current xbox one and Nintendo Switch edition.

The xbox 360 and ps3 versions are not being discontinued until Sony and Microsoft stop allowing title updates for those consoles

    It's not possible yet.

According to official Minecraft Twitch streams they don't even know for certain they will be able to use USB to do this yet due to the consoles not allowing USB to install files. This was due to the fact that USB was used on the 360 to mod and cheat on call of duty games. So MS are reluctant to allow USB on the xbox one.

If they can't find away to allow the use of USB without compromising the security of the system then they will have to find another way to put mods on console. Maybe similar to the way bethesda does it with Fallout 4 and Skyrim

    * Two editions are going away, no longer sold or updated (360 and ps3).

From what i've seen in official sources those two editions aren't going anywhere until Sony and Microsoft stop allowing title updates for those platforms.
And that could be a while yet.

I've seen scare mongering click bait videos saying they are going away but nothing official

Apparently they are trying to find a way to bring map coordinates back that doesn't involve using the map. But that might not happen until after the official release of bedrock

Be careful importing classic size worlds too. If you have builds near the edge of the world they will get messed up after conversion. Change any classic size worlds to large using the xbox one edition before importing them into bedrock

    You're probably right.

MS could use Sony's position to their advantage.

Anyone who wants the best console experience for Minecraft would need an Xbox One. Even if they bought a Switch instead it would still benefit MS by getting more people using the xbox live ecosystem
