    Quote from starlinvf

It shouldn't.... I have a theory, if your willing to test it.

Prerequisite: This problem started after the 10th (Following a windows update)

First, uninstall then reinstall the video card drivers.

If its still hanging up like that, disable your sound device in Device manager.

If the problem still persists, make a new restore point, then roll back to point just before the 10th.

The timing of this problem started around the same time the updates came out, and I've been seeing some really weird issues (mostly Norton related BSODs, and a couple cases of the Network and sound drivers misbehaving after the reboot).

I've had this problem for the last couple of months so I doubt it was caused by a windows update :(

Ok I just spent the last 3 days reformatting my computer HOPING that it would fix this problem but it hasn't. I was told by someone that this sounds like "garbage collecting" but I'll describe whats happening so that you guys can make your own diagnosis. For the first 5-10 minutes my game runs perfectly fine, no lag, good FPS, even on a big server I experience practically no problems but then out of nowhere I get these HUGE lag spikes that are so bad it can take me 2 minutes just to open up the menu and close out of the game. It makes playing minecraft unbearable. I've installed the latest version of java, all my drivers are up to date, I'm not running mods, I know I don't have viruses because I just reformatted so what could be the problem?

Here's a picture of the debug chart during one of these lag spikes:

Here are the specs of my comp:

posted a message on Random Minecraft Lag Spikes
Bump. I'm having exactly the same problem. After about 5-10 minutes I get massive lag spikes and the only way to fix it is to close my client totally and restart minecraft. Then it happens again after about 5-10 minutes and cycle just repeats itself. I have noticed that on task manager the java usually starts out using like 100,000 k mem usage but it will go up to about 1,000,000 k mem usage (and usually when the lag spikes start). I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it but hopefully somebody can figure out what the hell is going on here.

btw I've already reinstalled java. I was running on java 5 but I uninstalled and reinstalled java 7 but the problem still persists. Please help :(

There is a server with a really good map and I want to download it to play on single player. I remember hearing about world downloader a long time ago but I'm not sure if it still works. Does anyone know if its been updated to the current minecraft version and where can I download it?

There is an awesome server and I want to copy the map and host it myself as a survival server. I'm just wondering if world downloader has been updated and if it would work for this. Thanks
