Seems to be outright missing the occasional catch here and there, not reeling at all.
This is when I fish at a normal angle cast.

Just to clarify, when the "splash" noise plays, there is a catch available, correct? This is what I'm basing my "misses" off of.

EDIT: I've been fishing with my bob at least 30-50 blocks out, since I've been trying to cast my lure at almost no angle, so if distance factors into the effectiveness of this mod, that may be my issue.

I'm just going to work around it and have it function correctly even when it decides to float above the water. I already have it working nicely now, just need to do a bit of testing and I'll make a release here soon. Thanks a ton for the feedback.
    No problem.

I've been using it for the past hour now and it seems like it's been missing a few catches here and there. I'm not sure why, because when it misses these catches it DOES reel the line, but nothing comes out. No exp gained or anything. It's possible that it's server lag in these cases.

yeah, the example you linked to is what was happening. I'll test it a bit more when I'm done with classes for the day and try and give you something more meaningful than "NO WORK".

Turns out it works flawlessly when I don't cast too steep.
    Thanks man!

As far as that issue goes, you could make the mod detect if there's no catches for >2 minutes or so (whatever's a good amount of time) and notify the user of possible errors they made when casting.

With the addition of fishing rod enchantments, I also suggest a feature:
The ability to have the mod decide when to stop using your current rod if it gets to a certain durability level.
This would be pretty useful, you could have it cycle through your rods and never lose one due to it breaking.

How exactly is it failing? Is it reeling too soon? Too late? If it's just a timing issue I could set a short delay or something. I haven't personally been able to test much in SMP, just on a local Bukkit server, and I've rarely seen it miss. I don't believe listening for a splash sound would be much more effective since it currently listens for the movement packet from the server, which happens at pretty much the same time as the sound. Could it be server-side lag?

One other thing I've noticed is that when you cast straight downward at too steep of an angle, the hook visually floats above the water, and the mod doesn't think it's in the water so it doesn't reel (Example here). If by any chance that's the issue, it can be solved by just casting a bit further, at least until I can develop a workaround.

Doesn't seem to work all that great in SMP servers.
If you could make it reel in when the splashing noise is played, it'd work flawlessly.

That sounds like an issue on your provider's side. You may want to send them a support ticket saying what the problem is.
    I'll try that, thanks.

posted a message on Unable to connect to a friend's server
Recently, my friend opened up a server with another person called Guardian Craft, using Enjin to set the whole thing up. The server is a Bukkit server. My friend gave me the IP address to their Minecraft Server, which is also listed on their website as 109.169.12.168:25565. As far as I know, the server does not use Hamachi or any extra client modifications to require connection. Their server is updated to the latest version.

When I connect, I get the error message "Outdated Server!". I switched down to Minecraft 1.4.7 (from 1.5) to check it out, and it turns out I've somehow been getting redirected to some "Feed The Beast" modification server. I'm not sure why, as the IP Address I've been putting in is the one for my friend's server. I cannot seem to find any website for this specific feed the beast server, either.

I've attempted connecting to my friend's server using the :25565 ending to signify connection on that port, and changed the port number within a range of 10 both ways, in the event that Enjin was hosting multiple Minecraft servers on one machine; however, I can't connect.

I've decided to come here to see if anyone had any answers to my problem, as Google didn't turn up much help.

You're supposed to restart the server around once a day, in most cases.. you don't want to run the Minecraft server for days on end without rebooting it and letting the OS recoup any locked up RAM that Minecraft may not have released.

You can also just delete the server.log file if it's getting to be too large.
I mean the log in the window. How do I keep that **** limited?

Logging to the console or elsewhere is not the source of the problem. I've been running a server for 7 months and been using McMyAdmin for all that time. It lets me restart the server automatically every day, which is probably why I don't have any problems.
It restarts your server everyday, which clears the logs. We started having heavy lag after about 2 days.
2 days of logs is a lot of text.

posted a message on Disabling or limiting logging
I have recently decided with my schoolmates to try and host a 24/7 server from my desktop. However, we have found this to be not the easiest thing. This is due to the fact our servers seem to get slower day by day.

At first, my friend was hosting the server for us. He has been away during the weekend for known reasons, but he has not been able to touch the server. His server began lagging heavily after the first day had passed. At first, we thought this to be bandwidth issues due to his dad playing lots of World of Warcraft and his brother playing a lot of Xbox.

Due to the lag, I stepped up and made the decision to host until said friend could get back home and troubleshoot the issue. Eventually, I noticed something. The minecraft server's RAM usage periodically will go up over time and lag the console or GUI version. It took me awhile to figure out why this would happen, but I now believe to have found the culprit.

That culprit is the server logging. I'm currently using the Windows .exe server application, so it has the GUI and logs everything in that Window. I have reason to believe that the fact we are unable to clear the log out on vanilla versions of the minecraft server is why. This is because it will build up more and more overtime until the point it's got a LOT of logged text on it.

This brings me to ask all of you expertise minecraft server hosters and players, is there any plugins for stopping that logging ability or limiting it so it will start clearing text at the top after "X" amount of text passes through? I hope that someone can come up to me with something like this, as it's painful to have to restart the server application after every day.

Plugins are much more preferred over the use of custom server software, btw.

    - I'm going to go for the Construction caste, I suppose.
    - Both, because it seems cheaper economy wise to simply gather my own materials and go out into the wild and build my own house without having to rent (I hope that's how it works..)

I'm not sure whether I'll be a serious full time player on this server yet, due to the fact I haven't played yet.

Wood is needed to get cobblestone, which is needed to get iron and coal.
Iron is needed to get Gold and Diamond (I think redstone too, but I'm not sure about that. If I'm wrong, please correct me.)

What do I do to solve griefing on my own in servers?

I built a huge pit/strip mine and put the chest somewhere in it. What about a base? Well, if you want to you can. I haven't had my bases griefed so far.
