IMO, draconian moderation didn't help. I used to be a very prolific poster years ago (on my regular account... I went to login after checking to see if this forum is still alive and I see the legacy login method is apparently dead so I had to use the account of another friend that abandoned this place), back when posts just from the current day spanned multiple pages. The moderation is what made me pack it in and go to Spigot forum, which is much more healthy. They are still very active and their mod team won't get all up... well, I can't finish statement that because if the moderation here hasn't changed, it'd get me yelled at lol.
I think you're confusing tighter rules for unfair moderation.
The moderation on this forum actually got better over time. Back in 2010-2011, each moderator's individual actions were held to much less liability. They had more power, more freedom to operate on their own, and were even allowed to freely inject content into users' posts whom they were warning - even deleting the post entirely. None of that has been allowed for a decade, at this point.
Really the only major rule change was that explicit language was banned. It sucks, yes, but equating that to 'draconian moderation' just tells the story of someone who never actually interacted with the staff. Citric was chill and hired chill people.
I challenge anyone to point out a major rule change that isn't to do with acceptable language use. (Discounting PPNS being nuked, because thank God for that.)
Most of the spam in GOT isn't even bots, and reporting it doesn't even get it removed anymore. 1st page GOT is completely full of rubbish that'd have been deleted back when the forum was active.
Just actual spam of people self-bumping their own useless threads over and over again, or just incomprehensible rubbish.
I'm aware the site is less active than ever. And it does make me a little sad. There was a time in 2016-2017 where I was on this site every day, browsing content and chatting about whatever in the most cringeworthy ways I could have (my old dms make me wanna delete my account and personally email everyone on this site saying thank you for dealing with my poorly-adjusted teen self)
It is kinda sad to see the site diminish in popularity over the years. And I guess I contributed to that as well, by not staying active. But that was never meant to happen, to just leave once and for all. Work, college, and now music school gets crazy. I suppose it's the way the cookie crumbles. Nothing can last forever. I think it may be related to changing demographics in the game playerbase, as well as the forums not being marketed as much. Not to mention the whole twitch merge where a lot of people left, as well as the rise of Discord.
Y'all should have been here before the end of 2011 when it was all still on phpBB. You were forced to review your post if someone else posted before you had, which just led to endlessly trying to send your post through while everyone was online in one thread.
That stuff stopped existing like 4 years ago as it is. Half of it died within the first couple of years, though the rest lasted pretty well. There are people that joined the offshoot through other people, who never were part of MCF at all, too.

No kidding. You joined after the place was well and truly dead.

Haha old.

Case in point how long they've been dead and how poorly Cobalt sold.
Doubt a lot of people even know Mojang published for other studios back in the day.

They were shut down many, many years ago while MCF was even still active, due to lack of users.

It could be worse. We could have been the Cobalt forums.

What's the matter?

What is this, or this, or this, or this, or this?
If I had even a single clue who still operated the forum, I'd probably just ask for my mod status back to clean it up.
