Ugh... Notch is having people pay to cover the server hosting cost, because of how expensive hosting MILLIONS OF PLAYER'S DYNAMIC INFORMATION is. Imagine how expensive hosting every single MineCraft server yourself would be.

Sorry, but this is just ********.
    Here:
    Quote from NinjaCatStudios

Recurring fees should be meaning-less to be honest, it has been proven that servers don't actually cost enough to justify recurring fees.

    That is indeed true.
If he wants reccuring fee it should be no more then 1-2$ per month, but even that is MORE then enough.
Do you expect servers to cost millions of dollars a month to run? Are you kidding me?
Even 1$ is too much. In reality it would be more like 15 cents per person. But for the sake of his greediness let's say it is 1-2$ per person per month :) That will also cover all maintenance and support team expenses several times.
So, If that is how it will be I will gladly pay, because it will be the true cost of that service!

    Quote from fishspill

The reason he isn't having users host their own servers is because he wants every player in a SINGLE interconnected world. Not on separate worlds, a la SMP/CMP.

No, the reason is that he wants control over everything. (read: he wants to get more money and not worry about piracy)
But that is up to him to decide, of course.

    Quote from NinjaCatStudios

I think notch will probably just end up allowing the community to host our own servers.

    I really hope so too.

The sole reason I bought minecraft and not pirated as I could have was because notch was a good man back then and he really delivered what was promised. Good game with no DRM. That's it. That's all what is needed. If he does it this time again I will gladly buy this game. This is what indie should be about.

    *ahem*
"Singleplayer won't have any reccuring fees."

    Don't *ahem* me :)
Notch added that part a second ago, already after I created that topic :)
Still, that would be a **** move on his part. Game and the players will clearly benefit if the servers work as for minecraft, when anyone can host his own server.

    Quote from TJ1122334

...and the fact that it was inspired a little by Firefly means that We're gonna have a hard-scifi game on our hands. Which, in all honesty, shall be frckin' amazing.

It is amazing! I really hope he includes a lot of tech stuff in it and makes support for mods :)

    Here, look for yourself
    http://0x10c.com/

The game probably will be amazing, but that monthly fee part...
Why can't he release a public server so that people are able to host their own servers as with minecraft?
If there will be monthly fee - then thank you but no.

Here's a response to it by TheBestGamers http://thebestgamers...Story1333498498
This is really a bit overdoing it, but they have a point I can't argue about.
Notch should have at least made SOMETHING before telling us how he gonna milk money.

Also, why do you think he wants that game to be processed at only single master server? Try to guess.
    Because:
    * He knows that this game will be super popular thanks to minecraft and huge fanbase.
    * If game will be processed at master server it cannot be pirated for multiplayer.
    * He will make shitloads of money because everyone will want to play it.
    * Profit! For him, that is...

Now, don't get me wrong! I'm all for that game! And it really sounds amazing! I really wish he succeeds! At least single player will be great, i hope :)
But if he really makes it with sucscription fee - then as one person said already - "suck my :Sheep: " :)

    Now, what do you think?

    Update:
Here's some more info for that game.
    DCPU-16 specification: http://0x10c.com/doc/dcpu-16.txt

    Update:
Now notch clarified that single player will not reqire you to pay monthly fee, only if you want to play online.

Can you make it so that you don't need to edit minecraft jar, but just put archive into "mods" folder, as other mods?
