I've been with this server for an age and a half, and by golly it has the best damn people you could ever hope to play a game of Minecraft with. Come, join us. JOIN. US.
As of 7:00AM PST on 10 July 2012, it is now legal to steal from unlocked chests, as long as they aren't inside someone's house. If they are sitting out in the open in someone's yard, feel free to go for it. Our chest locking system is stupidly easy to use. There is no excuse for not taking ten seconds to make a sign and slap it onto the front of a chest. Go and teach them a lesson.
If your unlocked chest gets stolen from, and there was no trespassing involved, don't come crying to us to do a database look-up on it, because we won't. Learn to lock your chests from now on.
For the lazy among us: This would probably be a good time to lock all of your chests, even the ones inside your home.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT #2: Scavenger will no longer save your items if another player kills you. IT WILL STILL SAVE YOUR ITEMS AND EXPERIENCE POINTS IN ALL OTHER SITUATIONS. I don't want to hear any whining about this. If someone has the skill to beat you honorably and fairly in open combat, I think they deserve a proper reward for their effort. Plus, it will help to encourage people to take advantage of not only their new freedom to PVP, but also to get serious about using our new protection mechanisms as well.
I repeat: Scavenger still works for everything it always has, EXCEPT PVP kills.
The /home command now has a 2-second warm-up. This is to stop people from easily running away from fights when they suddenly realize they are about to lose.
One of the moderators on my server has this issue. I've done everything I can for her over TeamViewer, and absolutely nothing works. She is forced out of the server in less than ten seconds.
I agree with you about them being some of the worst griefers ever, albeit for very different reasons.
These people seriously spent *days* trying to attack our server, and didn't manage to do a single thing. Not one. Single. Thing. Bush League all the way.
In order to encourage PVP, as well as more responsible play (i.e., not having plugins putting players under a constant passive protection), we have installed a plugin called Precious Stones. This plugin allows certain blocks to create auras or force fields that have certain effects. The first block we have configured is an black wool block which will create a 12x12x12 cube of PVP denial around it. You can use this block to deny player attacks in or near your home just by placing it.
Normal members can place four of these blocks, trusted members can place six, sponsors and super sponsors can place up to eight at a time. If you want to place a normal block with no aura around it, just hold sneak while placing.
The next block I plan on configuring is the "Proximity Snitch". It watches over the area where it is placed and keeps a Hawkeye-like log of who has been there and what they have been doing. Useful for keeping track of your areas on your own and then reporting any suspicious edits to the mods, rather than having the mods teleport there and checking themselves. This is a pretty high-end function, and requires time on the MySQL database too, so it may be restricted to higher-ranked members.
New block types will come as we come up with and test new ideas.
Now, on to the elevators. They are very easy to create and this video should explain everything.
Now, here is the most important part of this post. We are going to be disabling PVP time. PVP will be enabled map-wide 24 hours per Minecraft day. People will also be allowed to walk onto your property and attack you. There won't be anything there to protect you unless your are responsible and pro-active about protecting your own area. If someone walks into your home and starts hitting you, don't come crying to us when a single block of black wool could have stopped it all. These is no excuse for doing something so easy to protect yourself.
I am pleased to announce that we now have a real dedicated machine to run our server on!
Our old server was like this:
OS: Windows Server 2008 Standard
Processor: 2 cores of some lower end Xeon
4GB of some kind of memory
150GB on a "virtual" hard disk, with the actual hard disk being shared between several virtual machines.
Our new server is like this:
OS: Windows Server 2008 Standard
Processor: E3-1230 (3.2Ghz Quad Core + HT)
Memory Type: 8GB DDR3-1333
Hard Drive Slot 1: 500GB SATA II Enterprise Grade (3.5")
Our full-fledged Minecraft 1.0 server is now up and running.
In this iteration of our great server, we have finally added a map to separate the use of creative "hax" from normal, survival-based play. This is a world where people with the passion, ingenuity, and drive to create the grandest and most impressive projects can free themselves from the shackles of surviving and focus on pure building and creativity.
However, with great power also comes great responsibility, and access to the full area of this map, and the full capabilities of this gameplay style, won't be given to just anyone. This is primarily an area for the best of the best to truly show what they're made of, not an area to "play minecraft" in. With that in mind, I have set the map up thus:
1. The total size of the map is 4300x4300, 4000x4000 of which lies within the ultimate border.
2. The "sandbox" area for general use is centered on 0, 64, 0, and extends for 600 blocks in every direction, giving a total sandbox area of 1.2 kilometers square. Surrounding this area is a WorldGuard region preventing exit by unauthorized users. In this area, user who wishes to be granted access to the main part of the map can set up a project to show their stuff. If your work is judged acceptable, you will be added to the inner-border exclusion list, where you may then stake out an area to build your dream project.
3. The sandbox area will be reverted regularly to clear out builds and regenerate the land so that new people can try out new projects on a clean slate. So don't attempt to build anything gigantic that may take more than a week or two to complete in it, and certainly don't put your main house in it. This map isn't for casual play, so please don't attempt to live or set up shop here.
4. Users who are very trusted will be allowed to use tools such as VoxelSniper to help create their builds. Lower level users will still be allowed access to VoxelDoop tools, which in themselves are extremely helpful. Users who are trusted and show interest in becoming snipers can sign up to become LiteSnipers, and will be personally tutored by myself.
5. We have a multi-world inventory system set up to prevent cross-world exchanges of items, so don't even try it.
WOW! how did you get a world like that?! some kind of terrain-generator? if so, which one?
Looks like it was made with World Edit, Voxel Sniper, or similar tool. That's what I do, anyway. When I can't find the terrain I want, I just make my own.

Pretty awesome place if I do say so myself.
