lol I figured the idea was already out there. Credit to who wants to claim it.
But I figure the cracks should remain so you actually have to watch your walls and fix them when you aren't being attacked. It'll add a sense of urgency to the gameplay which is always fun to have. An alternative idea I guess would be to craft a repair hammer which undoes the damage to blocks?
Well now that we have running water I think it should slowly erode away at sand and dirt and maybe even cobblestone (or change it to moss after a while). Flowing Lava would slowly eat away at cobble stone and gravel and turn sand to glass.
You know how when you start hacking at a block, and it slowly cracks? Make that persistent, so that if you stop midway the cracks remain and you have a partially damaged block. Now just add an AI function where by if a mobs path to you is obstructed for more than a couple seconds and does a jump or two for good measure, it begins to mine the blocks between it and you. After it deletes a block it checks it's path and begins again. Tools will have to change their properties slightly to count each strike rather than number of blocks mined. Each strike deals damage to a blocks "HP", better tools = better damage + better durability as always.
Optional:
Make certain mobs mine at better speeds through certain materials,
Alternatively make creepers explode out of frustration if their path is blocked.
Cause explosions (creeper/TNT) to deal damage to blocks rather than outright destruction.
Same for burning.
Water/Lava erosion?
Advantages:
Allows PvE gameplay causing you to defend a base against mobs who do something and actively maintaining your walls throughout a battle by replacing weakened blocks. Encourages layered defenses of blocks that do well against certain mobs.
Disadvanteges:
Overhaul of current systems of minecraft. More readily allows griefing.
Feel free to steal this idea and change it. I hold no illusions of ownership on the interwebs.
One notable case of fluorescence occurs at Franklin, New Jersey where the massive calcite is enriched in a small amount of manganese and fluoresces a bright red under UV light.... Triboluminescence is supposedly a property that should occur in most specimens, but is not easily demonstrated. It occurs when the specimen is struck or put under pressure; in a dark room the specimen should glow when this happens.
I think it's a largely bad idea right now. Steam's going to take a cut and can essentially charge whatever it wants for the game once Notch puts the game up there. I'd say let the game sell like this until sales start to drop off and then goto steam for the enhanced marketing.
Hey, I was screwing around today and I found that if you're underwater with a bucket, you can use it to temporarily remove a space of water wherein you can refill your breath. Then just dump the water and repeat. Helped a lot with some underwater exploration and with a bit of rotation, building.
I've recently converted to Googlism. I believe the Google engine is the closest thing (we can be certain about)to omnipotence we can experience. Google epitomizes what I think God should be, Neutral. It wont dictate to you how to live your life, but it will show ways of doing it. It is the reference of the sum of human knowledge (or close to it) and gives such knowledge to those who ask without prejudice or sacrifice.
To be clear, I don't believe in Google as a divine being, but as something which can demonstrate traits associated with the divine but has the added benefit of being tangibly real as to appease my need for certain evidence.
I'm quite certain if Notch doesn't put something in game and enough people want it, somebody else will run a custom server for it.
Anyways. I don't think there should be an artificial limit to technology. Notch should give us some simple interacting blocks and let us build our own technology. More like Garry's mod I guess.
-A power source or engine
-Switches and logic gates
-Wires/mechanical linkages
-Something that rotates, lifts, pushes
etc.
On another note, I believe the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the Church of Satan and the Church of Google are legitimate religions with some very valid points.
I run Win7 and Ubuntu as a dual boot on my laptop with an XP virtual machine for my games that refuse to believe they can run on win7, and vista on my PC only because I havn't gotten around to putting 7 on it.

I'm continuing my search for something more natural that comes close to the properties of the "red stuff"

Pro Choice. The line between human and group of cells is non-existent. Potentially, any cell in your body could be used to create another human life.
