I don't get it. Minecraft WAS supposed to be Medieval castles-and-knights, middle ages theme. Fireworks were not around 1500 years ago. Minecraft is just not what it used to be. The only things I see that are good in this update are the bug-fixes, Enchanting Books, and the new Christmas texture for chests.
Please do not keep the fireworks Jeb, they don't fit the Minecraft style!!!

Capes are a exclusive bonus for those who attend minecon and likely always will be. Trust me they don't get you any special treatment.Posted in: News

No kidding. People (myself included) didn't refer to it as "Linecon" for s and giggles.
BTW along with the family orientated party the first night there was an adults only "Into The Nether" party last year too on the second night. It wasn't that great honestly. As other posters said there were a lot of adults there too and no offense to any kids here there are times when we just don't a bunch of kids around. Some day you'll understand. -

Jun 7, 2012LtKernelPanic posted a message on Snapshot 12w23b Ready For TestingI'm glad they made the XP leveling (at least somewhat) exponential again and nerfed the XP drops from ores. The old way was insane getting to level 50 without a grinder but then they took it to the opposite extreme in the previous snapshot.Posted in: News
Quote from Zeemvel- It now takes 825 Experience to reach level 30.
In 1.2.5 it takes 4625 XP to reach level 50. When they changed the max level to 30 it dropepd to be linear. It took 17XP per level from what I read meaning it took 510 XP to hit 30. -
Apr 30, 2012LtKernelPanic posted a message on Change Your Minecraft Name? Possibly In The FuturePosted in: NewsQuote from chez911
But that is your problem you didn't take action to find out, you should of at least tried to acknowledge the possibility. Also, if it was free to sign up, you could just easily change your name whenever, making your username feel useless. Unless it's once per month or something.
That's great and all but when I bought minecraft well over a year ago there was NOTHING that said your minecraft.net name would be your in game name or I would have used something other than my real name. I've had a couple people approach me about doing an LP but I've declined each time because quite frankly I don't want my real name plastered everywhere. Personally I welcome the ability to change it in the future even if there is a small fee to do so. Sure I could register a new account with the name I'd change it to but then I'd lose my cool minecon cape. -

So they get nearly a 10K wish, ffs, i havent had 10K of stuff i want in my 14 years, probably around 1K
Wow. You do know Make Wish grants seriously and terminally ill kids wishes. Apparently you also weren't there to see the young man's mother crying her eyes out when they invited him up on stage to meet Notch, the Curse rep, and Minecraft Chick to get a special Minecraft themed XBox 360. In fact I don't think there was a dry eye in the convention hall during that. Also I doubt the cost was close anywhere near 10k. Hotel for two of us was ~$350 and meals vary. I would be shocked if Mandalay Bay didn't comp their whole visit and the Mojang crew didn't provide them both with tickets. Maybe you should make sure you know what the hell you're talking about before spouting your stupidity for all to see.

That took *a lot* of cobble.
In preparation for the 1.4 update and the need for hundreds of iron blocks for the beacons I planned to place around the castle eventually I decided to build a temporary iron golem farm next tot the castle so when I'm working there I can also be farming iron. If you're interested in building your own I used docm's excellent tutorial video which you can find on his youtube channel. After a couple hundred stone shovels and spending some quality time with Frosty I ended up with this. (why I used snow blocks I have no idea)
You can see the first level of spawning areas and part of the second as well as a collection area for the golems. The lava weakens them a bit and a simple piston crusher finishes the job. There's also a third level of spawning pads not visible in that pic. I did make one change to doc's original video. Until 1.4 changed it you needed 16 villagers total or 4 per pod to spawn a golem but if a village had 32 or more villagers two can spawn so I put 8 villagers in each pod. The only down side is sometimes the golems get stuck in the 2x2 drop area if they reach it at the same time. This can easily be fixed by climbing up the service ladder and hitting one of them with an arrow. It's a little harder if they're stuck is the lower spawning pad of the level since you have to bridge your way over to the drop area first.
A view from the top of one of the legs the third layer of golem spawning spaces will sit on.
On a side note I've noticed the fence line around the castle also doubles as a record factory.
Does the condemned have any last words?
After finishing the iron farm it was time to go spend some time in the nether collecting wither skulls which if course led to another "small" project -- wither spawning pads. It was kind of a waste of time because every skull I've collected so far has come from somewhere other than the pads I built. Oh well finding six nether fortresses within a 2 minute walk of my portal is still pretty cool. There's a seventh that's a little farther away but the only "easy" way to it is to swim though a couple lava lakes.
Once again being reminded why I hate the nether it was finally time to get to work on the castle again. First up the parapet walls around the entry hall and towers. I had planned on using the cobblestone walls since I first saw them but they just looked odd by themselves. They needed someting else and I think this worked well...
Adding some upside down stairs as a base of the parapet gave it that little extra pop it needed. Once windows and other elements are added to the towers everything won't blend together quite so much.
Next up was to build the walkway between the upper entry hall and the Great Hall/ThroneRoom and start fixing a couple of the mistakes I've discovered so far.
Walkways installed and extra blocks removed from the roof.
When putting the cobble down for the roofs I forgot one important thing. Some of them would also double as walkways for the second floor and have gravel as a surface which means the underlying cobble would need to be one block lower or in the case of the area outside the upper entry hall two blocks lower.
Stone set down one block to allow for the finished floor (not sure what I'll use yet) to sit level with the walkways and to separate the lower "commoners" area from the upper "royals" area.
Second floor walls up. The stone brick offers a nice contrast to the existing materials. The 1x3 doors are just temporary until their final placement is decided.
A couple random construction pics.
Next on the todo list will be finishing the parapets around the second floor of the main castle and then after that either the bridges to the side wings or maybe starting on the great hall. Probably won't have another update until after the first of the year since Christmas time is crazy busy time at work.

Provided you have the blocks on hand to build it you can build the grinder in about 4-5 hours. The additional "prettying things up" is what took forever.

Also if a mod author puts "You may not distribute this mod in a mod pack without my express permission" in the user agreement and you do it anyway without their permission then yeah it's not kosher especially when you're making money off the mod pack.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking too. Personally i think you should have to make a special furnace out of say existing nether brick and soul sand and fuel it with blaze rods. Risky to build? Yup, but the reward is worth it IMO.
