We are here to say no. Go support the new texture in a new post if you want.

    *So DaS did*

But in all seriousness... It now acts as a nice clean (and shiny) block just perfect for floor tiling...
I just can't understand all the hate?

if you are so disinclined toward it, simply install a texture pack (but it's such a minor change, it doesn't really matter that much)

<INSERT THE SLIGHTLY MAGICAL POST BY DAS>

It is not that you do not like horses that irks me, its your logic and horses make any other type of transportation obsolete and ruins the game.

Let me rephrase that... I always did and still want horses.... at the time of writing the post I felt that they were far to overpowered (faster than mine-carts, able to navigate terrain without having to even jump... I just wanted to point out to the community that horses were somewhat broken at the time...

I'm my mind (and evidently not yours :P ) being better than minecarts for 'travel' (note that doesn't include automation and item transportation) and being better than walking (its actually easier to ride a horse up sheer mountain side than it is to walk/ pillar) seems grounds to denote an obsoletion of the other transport means. Evidently the community has 'brought to light' (seeing as though you seemed to like phrases about light) that they will continue to use minecarts and the like for all kinds of things, which is pretty awesome!

Thanks for taking the time to actually write comments about every one of my paragraphs... it must have taken a while to think of a way to phrase angry comments about them all. Like I've said in a number of comments now, I now feel with some minor tweaks by the Mojang team that Horses are now balanced...

    Quote from DaS »

I'm going to fall on my own sword here, perhaps Mojang did think this through more than I first though :P. It seems as though horses will now use the old dungeon saddle! (which I hoped would happen)

Rare dungeon item + Rare mob = balanced, late-game transport! Perfect!

But yeah... whatever floats your bacon? (one has to wonder what would cause bacon to float if at all?)

    Also
FLAME SUITS DO PROTECT ME! *jumps into :Ham: only slightly burns to death?*

By now forcing the player to progress up the ground transport tiers of 'walking - minecarts - horses' (by making horses hard to obtain as a mount), new players will still build minecarts tracks before being able to (most of the time) get themselves a little horsie friend. With a minecart track already in place they will be more likely yo try and see it to completion, thus making mine-carts un-obsolete.

Horses now seem like a nice reward for spending the amount of time needed to now make use of them in survival

and with that, this topic will probably die of very quickly... shame, I had oh so much fun. with you all..

Oh... so the 'Better than wolves' mod invented the mill did they?
This acts rather differently than the ill that exists there (no water-powered grinder)

Personally I love the idea of making bonemeal and obtained from a mill (as well as being able to grind flower!) it really gives the game that extra annoying difficulty it needs (so many additions to make the game easier and more automated, time for something that takes us back to doing something ourselves)

    I give my SUPPORT!

I hate the minecraft fanbase. I really do.

    Why are people so cynical?

Creeper Spawners? Fanbase says: Infinite Gunpowder Farm OP.
Horses? Fanbase says: We Dont Have To Build Overly Complicated Minecart Tracks Anymore OP
New Enchantment Of ANY Kind: Fanbase Says: OP! OP! OP!
Pet Cats? Fanbase Says: Useless Feature
New Texture? Fanbase Says: EWWW! Get it away!
Anything New Added Ever? Fanbase Says Either "Stop Improving The Game And Give Us Modding API" Or "This Is OP! Minecraft Is Too Easy"

This is what is wrong with the minecraft fanbase. GOD FORBID the game diverge a little bit from what it originally was. GOD FORBID players relax and enjoy the game instead of it being OMG hard and frustrating.

I like mounts and pets. What is wrong with that? Why do people hate CHANGE so much?!

Fun is subjective. I am completely bored by minecarts and tracks. I would rather minecraft have pipes to move items and build ice pathes or use mounts or even, DARE I SAY, portals! "GASP!" Easy transportation! *Gets burned at the stake by elitists"

No need to be so grumpy, :P I merely stated that I feel horses render many of the other transport methods obsolete, and that perhaps Mojang needed to put a little more thought into the implementation instead of rushing it to cater to community pressure. I understand it happens to be based off a Mod, however mod makers don't tend to consider much balance in their mods (due to people choosing to install it or not and knowing it may make their game easier). This implementation happens to be identical to the mod, so seemingly no thought of balance was considered (of course I may be wrong!).

We all have things we aren't happy with in game updates... if you can honestly tell me that you haven't not been 100% happy about anything then I salute you sir. I'm certainly more than happy with horses, they make the game fun and really add to the medieval feel the game needed. Like I said, I was just unhappy with the redundancy of the other transport means.

It's actually pretty awesome to see how many people still intend to use minecarts (and pigs :P) over horses, kudos to you!

(when I started this topic I never realized how much response it would get... totes craycray!)

    HEY COLORED GLASS PEOPLE!

THE PROBLEMS WITH COLORED GLASS ARE TOTALLY RELATED TO THE Z BUFFER, WHICH IS NOT A MINECRAFT THING, IT'S AN OPENGL THING. MINECRAFT CURRENTLY USES AN OLD VERSION OF JLWGE, AND RELIES ON AN OLD OPENGL FEATURE SET. REWRITING THE RENDER ENGINE TO SUPPORT COLORED BLOCKS AND BETTER TRANSPARENCY WILL REQUIRE A NEWER OPENGL FEATURE SET. LAST I HEARD, THEY WILL MOVE TO A NEWER OPENGL, BUT IT'S OPENGL 2, WHICH IS NOT NEW, JUST NOT SO OLD. AND TO DO TRANSPARENCY RIGHT YOUR Z BUFFER MUST SUPPORT DEPTH SORTING, WHICH WILL ADD SIGNIFICANT TIME NEEDED TO DRAW EACH FRAME. SO IF YOU HAVE A BABY COMPUTER THAT BARELY RUNS MINECRAFT AT 15 FPS, YOU'RE SCREWED. IF YOU HAVE A POWERPC, YOU'RE EXTRA SCREWED BECAUSE 1.6 WILL NOT SUPPORT JAVA 5 AT ALL, GET A REAL COMPUTER.

I imagine the zombie spawn rate will be nerfed down to a very small chance of happening (we can't have zombies spawning every time they take damage, else we'll be swamped within seconds).
...and if the community whinges enough, it will probably only allow for summoned zombie friends to spawn from certain blocks (most likely dirt, as a zombie crawling out from obsidian, stone or wood seems rather unbelievable...)

It's upsetting, but not surprising, to see that even after everyone complained about how horrible pigriding was... how absolutely useless the carrot-stick method was... "Just give us horses already!", and now we have all the hate for horses and "Why can't we just keep pigs?" Just a couple weeks after 1.6 releases, horses will be as much a part of the game as creepers and most of the hate will dissolve. The cycle repeats with every update. It's really quite pointless.

I don't know... I was pretty hyped about pigs :P

Would you ride a horse in a mine , no you wouldn't, would you take a donkey with you inside the mine, no again, horses are made for large spaces and minecarts are made so you have transport in tunnel like small places, the only thing that is obsolete now is the pig, because no one will ride pigs now, would they

Horses now seem like a nice reward for spending the amount of time needed to now make use of them in survival

As everybody is well aware, Horses have been included in the 13w16a snapshot, and to be honest, I was rather excited and promptly went to go and test it out (it did not disappoint, and their inclusion defiantly has some very exciting potential).

After the initial hype began to die down I suddenly became enlightened to many consequences associated with this addition...

Sadly the addition of horses and donkeys makes nearly every other means of transport obsolete (boats excepted)...

Why spend countless hours building a massive mine-cart track/ station, when you can simply ride a horse to the desired destination...?

Why bother with "mine-carts with chests" when you have a 'pack-mule' that can not only transport your items, but also you across the land in lightning time (even into cave systems, tested and tried)...?

Personally, I always found pig riding to be this amazing compromise between us getting 'mounts' and 'not really giving us mounts'. It let you travel vast distances quickly without the loss of hunger from sprinting, whilst also providing a fun an unique means a land transportation. On the flip side, with an awkward control means (that often didn't work) pigs enlightened the fact that players needed to work hard to achieve luxury transport. Pigs represented the fact that mine-craft was not going to conform to the typical game conventions (such as mounts).

Pigs were never meant to be a replacement for walking, the were simply there for fun and for those who could invest the time to make effective use of them. Horses however do replace walking...

...It really does saddens me to think pigs (and all they stood for) are now nothing...

The ethos of the game has begun its downward spiral... for a game about mining, crafting and building... there sure isn't a lot of it...

You may have different opinions about this (and you are most entitled to them), fair enough... For certain I don't want to see horses removed

    ...but the game-obsoleting integration...

posted a message on Adventure mode is useless...
so here I was... Building a prison in SSP for later use on my server, relying heavily on the thought that adventure mode was this 'players can't destroy blocks' mode. The idea was to send the player to prison, and have the game mode automatically changed to adventuremode so they were unable to escape the cell, but also allow for the cell to look asthetically pleasing (I very much dislike the thought of a bedrock prison).

After finishing the structure and wiring all the command blocks that made the prison function correctly, I decided to test it... The cells themselves worked fine, and kept the player contained within their confines. However, the prison was initially planned to allow guests to visit the prison (should they wish), and upon entereing the premise, they would also (providing they are not an Op in creative) be placed in adventure mode as to not free any prisoners.

I quickly descovered adventure mode was not what I thought... almost every single block in the game is breakable with various tools.. thus, even in adventure mode a visitor can still free a prisoner...
Secondly, I was also shocked to find out players could place blocks... and also ignite TNT...

So yeah... my grand plan has become reduntant (without mods... which would make my commandblock contraptions useless)... Purely because adventure mode does very little of what it's intention was... to prevent players from tampering with adventuremaps...

Perhaps we need a 4th mode that does not allow any block to be interacted with... so adventure maps that are purely quest based and contain scenery that the map maker does NOT! want the player to alter remain so.

posted a message on Hoppers & Jukeboxes / BUD Block / Redstone Effected Jukeboxes / Comparators and Noteblocks
Hoppers already output a signal (via a comparator) when a music disc is inserted (the strength dependant on the disc number), and because of the 'hoppers don't take items out when powered by restone' mechanic', this means that by connecting that jukebox power to a hopper the disc would not be taken out...

However, in order for that to work well aside from hoppers needing to be able to place CD's and take CD's out of Jukeboxes, they would also need to cut the signal once the song has finished playing...

Once the signal ends, the hopper would no longer be powered hence removing the old CD and another Hopper palcing another CD in the system (works with only 2 CD's due to the aformentioned 'left to right' sucking out problem)

    Support!
I can just imagine walking into a boss room, and the diisc 'ward' starts playing (although, I can probrably do this with the whole new 'tile entity spawning' thing to spawn a jukebox with a cd pre-inside it) or being able to loop a song or two :D :Pig:
