Was thinking of using one of those tracking plugins to revert, that restore one would be great. Think I'll suggest it to the multiverse plugin at some point.

Re uploading the world does work but it's not as simple as having a command to make a copy. The major down side is that only people with server access can create an instance.
Same thing happens if a person duplicates the folder remotely.

Only way I can see right now is perhaps using the command passer, still the same issue but at least one does not have to leave the mc client.

posted a message on Possible to clone a world?
I'd like to make a copy of a world, specify a new name for the copy, and allow people to go there.
Then at any time later on the copy can be deleted and remade fresh via another copy.
This of course excludes simply making a new world with a seed as human built structures don't generate.

Basically, the ability to create instanced challenge maps. I've tried multiverse and it worked great to import but has no way to revert, unless I'm missing something.

    Does anyone have suggestions?
    Thanks.

The mcmmo repair system works great though that's partly due to the skill attached giving more returns with a higher skill. This system sounds meh.

@Phar, never said go to an ocean biome. I said make a fake ocean biome so that animals will still spawn. Take a normal biome and edit in the water and wall.

The only animals I've seen in an smp ocean biome swam out from another area. The chickens I had hatched were still there up to the point that someone finally found my area and griefed it.

    @Sting_Auer
Chicken farms will still probably be one of the faster ways to obtain a different food source, plus it's easy to set up. Could even see them not being able to breed since they are the only passive ones we can transport in our inventory. Though if animal eggs do get implemented...

These big ocean biomes are great, super deep with sparse islands. A touch of extra stuff will be nice.

    Whirlpools

(Just a quick demo pic, should have made it more circular.)
A dangerous lack of water in an area sucking in unsuspecting boaters to a briny demise, or just wrecking their boat. The cactus works but seems out of place. Was also thinking a hole to the void but the pool would need at least a 4x4 hole going down but water mechanics don't like that so it would need to be a 6x6 hole (ignoring the water flow bug).

    Sponges
Groups of sponge at the bottom of the ocean, say in clusters of 20. Something down there for people to go diving for.

    Squiddies
Drop tentacles. Can be used for... calamari. Maybe even for potions.

Just a few ideas (of course new creatures and like a kraken), I'm sure others can add to the list.

That will also only get you raw chicken, mineaswell just drown them instead of messing with lava. Will put my chicken test farm save online later. Need sleep now, and to remake the working grinder.
Though 1.9 may break it if burning is toned down. Hopefully not, it's fun to go hunting with flint and steel (iron)...

@Phar, have you lived on an island yet? It becomes far more apparent that they respawn when you do that.
You could make a normal spawn, use single player commands to wipe out all creatures, edit the area surrounding you to be water with walls a bit away from shore to ensure nothing comes near, wait a few days and post results.

Think some of the main plugins that would make this simpler have been found, need to check them out at some point though.
Also have the two main rule sets decided upon and an additional for more variety. Though hopefully some of the suggestions notch has received will be implemented.

    Quote from Phar
Animals do respawn, but you need to make a chunk perfectly crafted to get animals to spawn, such as a 16x16 grass platform from bedrock to skylimit every 3 blocks high. Since this will never be reproduced in a normal survival gameplay, animals effectively do not respawn.

They don't need to be perfectly set up. It just takes time to get replacements.
Though wolves are stupid rare outside chunk generation it seems.

Further testing shows that the grinders are really under performing. Going to stop using the trapdoor version and go back to the netherack version, with a piston to control water flow as it worked quite well.

posted a message on Looking for a strong hosting company.
Main idea for the server is to be used as a challenge arena for PvP, spleef, competitive maps, etc. Think of your local sports team, where do they play at? The sponsored stadium of course! Yes, this means I'm looking for a free host.

Why would you want to do this?
Anything given to the cause will reflect back upon you as a host. Supporting the minecraft community and advertising on the server/website/videos will only be part of your return.

For main events it will need room for the participants, moderation staff, and camera people, and maybe some spectators. Though the more player slots the better to have multiple smaller events and other misc battles.
Plugins will be used for a few things and possible ideas. Some uses are region protection to keep players in/out of areas, varied rule sets, multiple worlds to easily set up challenge maps, and more crazy shenanigans.

When not hosting an event the server can be used as a gathering place for friendly competition and to practice custom maps.
Eventually would like to have events set up online to post videos and possibly even streaming for the long run with the hope to have ladders and possibly even offer prizes and competitions with celebrities within the minecraft community.
Never ran a public gaming server however I do have experience organizing and running groups, be they as a clan or an event.

    Be more specific!:
To make the casual and hardcore competitive gaming experience smooth the server will need as much dedicated ram, cores, and transfer speeds as possible. A vps or dedicated box will show how well your hosting performs under odd conditions. A secondary smaller server could be used for testing but that may be asking for much. (Ftp access and all that other jazz as well of course.)

Thanks for reading the idea. Please leave comments, concerns, further ideas here.
    [Edit: changing title.]

posted a message on Chicken farming
If the water is not flowing the chickens tend to die off. Though what difficulty the game is in may have an affect.
Multiplayer seems to change the cooked chicken grinders. The only one that works most of the time I've found is burning netherack (using a piston to activate a flow of water instead of manually entering). The trapdoor + lava blade version seemed less than 50%.

People seem to be misunderstanding the difference in persistent and single spawning creatures. As of 1.8.1:
    1. All animals are persistent. Put an animal in a pit it can not escape then go for a long walk far away. When you come back the animal will still be there. (Unless it's a chicken that randomly died. Or a sheep that got killed by a wolf. Hostiles will still despawn.)
    2. Single spawn is not active. In areas where the passives initially spawn you can kill them to get replacements. This is the part that will supposedly change at a later time when breeding/husbandry is introduced.

As to why farm chickens, cake and varied food sources!
But zombie flesh is so nummy...

I've made a 5x5 (flowing water) farm in smp, it currently has 10 chickens but it looks like there's room for more. Took no time to get a double chest full of eggs.
The two of us at the location have gone far away and come back multiple times and I've afked for a night. All 10 chickens are still there.

Next is adding a grinder to this area, testing showed that lava blades dropped uncooked meat. Grak's version seems to work, it didn't at first. It should fit in well. A piston with the netherack version to activate water worked as well, but not as well.
