posted a message on Idea: combine farm animals

Apparently on some servers such as Skyrealms, they have a plugin that combines farm animals into a single animal with a number over them to designate how many there are. Some of my worst basic lag issues have been with users making enormous farms with dozens of each type of animal, and this seems like an incredibly simple method of managing that.

Is there a mod out there that does this already that I'm not aware of? Is it a plugin (which might be acceptable too, but for modded servers, a forge mod seems smarter.)

posted a message on Future of the Minecraft Server Hosting section

So all the [secured] hosting companies will obviously love this. The rest... not so much. forum should be a lot less utilized though. There won't be any place on MCF to request or offer hosting sponsorships, then? Your suggestion of finding a server that needs room to grow... leaves nowhere for that to actually happen. Not on MCF, anyway.

I'll be sad to see the Hosting Requests section disappear. I've met some interesting people there and learned a lot. It's the only section of MCF outside of the main news page that I read on a regular basis.

Hope you're not trying to use this in conjunction with a modpack that uses Thermal Dynamics. It will lead to bad things.

posted a message on Host needed: price not a problem

Hey, if price isn't a problem and you've got the technical expertise, just go to OVH.com and buy a server of your own. Uptime second to none, and the server can be configured to be exactly what you want, how you want. OVH isn't going to disappear and support is top notch.

They are working on a total remake of this mod/a new mod though. It is already looking pretty nice.

They are indeed. Unfortunately, it's 1.8 as I understand it. Hopefully they realize the problems caused in 1.7.10 and don't replicate them in 1.8.

Not only does this mod have a crash problem with Thermal Dynamics (as documented by Robijnvogel above), it also has a huge issue with Minefactory Reloaded which prevents harvesters and fruit pickers from working with non-vanilla items (berry bushes from Natura or fruit trees from Harvestcraft.)

Since it seems that this mod is abandoned at 2.2.3, I'd advise not using it for any modpacks.

posted a message on Reverse Hosting Request: Modern Kingdom needs a vanilla instance

We have received several submissions, but will continue to accept submissions from the community until Friday. This is an opportunity for someone to do something great and fun without having to worry about acquiring or paying for a server, and we might decide to take on two.

A couple more days! We hope to hear from you!

    Still looking.

Color me curious: why are you still looking? It seems like you got a variety of offers, all seemingly well below your maximum. If they weren't meeting your needs, you might want to consider explaining why, so that future offerings can be better tailored to your specifications.

(I am not a hosting company, just spend a lot of time in here reading.)

posted a message on Reverse Hosting Request: Modern Kingdom needs a vanilla instance

Modern Kingdom (http://www.modernkingdom.net) is a small but well-established Minecraft community that has been running since 2012 that specializes in modded Minecraft instances.

We have attempted to maintain a public vanilla instance, but it has gone largely unused. Our current playerbase is primarily interested in playing modded Minecraft.

We would like to find a responsible individual or group in need of hosting to take residence on our default port and run a "vanilla" instance there, with minimal interference or expectations from Modern Kingdom. Our only stipulations are as follows:

    1) Login to the instance is set to public (not whitelisted or greylisted.) You may restrict players abilities within the world using permissions plugins.

    2) A survival world is accessible by public players where they can play relatively unrestricted.

    3) The server is actually used and maintained.

    4) We prefer that the vanilla instance uses a plugin that connects to our IRC Chat.

We may be able to sustain multiple instances if such needs exist. We are flexible on how much CPU and memory that can be made available. We utilize Multicraft for each of our instances, and our dedicated server is located in North America (Montreal).

Interested parties should email [email protected] with your interest, your abilities in managing a Minecraft server, and a brief summary of your idea. If you want to ask questions or discuss options in IRC, I am usually hanging around in our IRC at http://modernkingdom.enjin.com/irc

Then, just to complicate matters, you can have Sponge and/or Cauldron servers which incorporate both Forge mods and spigot/bukkit plugins. It gets really messy at that point. :)
