My go-to combination is cobble and wood logs/planks. They are so cheap and they give me a cosy feeling of home, even in late game building.

Pigmen require two blocks height to spawn. Put half slabs as ceiling and you shouldn't have any more problems.

on a new server i dug an open cut mine just for grinding cobblestone. after one week i had 22 large chests full of cobblestone stacks, and left a gigantic hole in the ground :D

Why didn't you make a generator? I used to dig tons of cobblestone until I made one. It saved me a lot of boredom.

posted a message on I'm currently deciding to live in the end city. Any downsides? (Other than enderman)

Another downside is that, if you want to live in the outer regions of the end, you need a constant supply of eyes of ender to go through the portals, and you'd also need to secure them. You can try making a giant railway but good luck with it.

Your roof should be max 2 and a half blocks high, or the enderme (3 blocks tall) will just get in your house whenever they please.

posted a message on What do you do if there is a cave under your house ?

Why would you move your house? A ravine is perfect. You just go down there, clear it up, and use it in whatever way you want. I'd personally estimate how much of it I'd need to get a good sized room to store my valuables and cut it off from the rest.

posted a message on How do you build your base?

I try to plan far ahead because I hate moving after I have settled somewhere.

I find myself a hillside and dig inside. I make room according to what my future needs may be, then I dig down and create a safe room from which to start my mining operations. For some reason I dedicate tons of effort to this underground room, the last one I made had a farm and a huge room where trees could grow, it was so refined that the only way you could tell it was deep under the earth was because there were no windows.

After I get a set of iron armor and enough food, I go outside (on the surface) and destroy the hill. I build a fortress on top of where the hill was, and a spider-proof wall all around the area. Then I start tending to my crops and taking in sheeps, cows and whatnot.

At this point I start exploring and connecting all points of interest to my base through simple cobblestone paths. But that's another story... my main base is always the first one I settle in.

Whenever I wanted that kind of challenge I would look up "extreme survival challenge" on google. I soon found very interesting places, like a shallow ridge in the middle of the ocean with just a tree.

Interesting idea. It could be that they are glitched out, but would they ALL do it at the same time? They never disappear one a time it's always all or nothing. Anyway my pens are designed so I don't have to jump to get inside because I'm lazy, but I will take this into consideration. :)

There's clearyl a bug going on. As a further preventive measure, as soon as you enter the world, try hitting pause and waiting some seconds for the world to load. If they still disappear there's something fishy going on.

posted a message on best block for building house?

If the house is out in the open, use a combination of rock blocks. You don't want wood to be vulnerable to lightning strikes.

If my house is inside a hill I usually use what I want though, since I'm covered against everything.

I tried different designs of pens but things kept disappearing regardless. So I came up with a new design and nothing has ever disappeared since (I too keep all colors in different pens).

Dig a 1-block deep hole made of dirt and wait for it to become grass. Then put glass on the borders. After that, put the fences on said glass blocks, and light it at will.

This way, if they every glitch and lodge into a wall, said wall will be glass and they won't suffocate.
