Rz4ever6 posted a message on Ice Pick/A way to get ice ingameHello!Posted in: Suggestions
Well, i've been thinking of this idea for a long time and i though it will be cool if we would add an icepick
Because the only way of getting ice ingame is using the /give command or something like that.
It can be crafted like this:
It would be good if we could pick up and store frozen Ice from lakes and use them for sculpturing, traps or just for fun :wink.gif:
Besides, Ice is really slippery for mobs and players. So im sure we wont mind to add a slippery block to the inventory -

dropdragon posted a message on Why Do We Insist On Ruining The Game? Why do so many people insist on filling their servers with countless plugins? Notch made SMP as vanilla and that's the way it was meant to be played, but people fill up their servers with all of this junk that makes the game unoriginal, complex, and boring.Posted in: Minecraft Survival Servers (archive)
I just don't see the point in the creating and installation of so many plugins. Sure, Chest Protection and anti-grief stuff helps, but when you change the game to the point of being unable to build on territory claimed by a guy hundreds of blocks away, and to the point where you need to be a certain class to make food...I mean seriously?
So again, I repeat:stuff like whitelist and anti-greifing is cool but it's gone too far when you're restricted to where you can build and what you can do. -

pauljs75 posted a message on Roof tiles/shingles for sloped roofs.Probably not necessary for a game mechanics, but something to add a little more variety to the buildings. Not every building should have a flat or makeshift looking staggered roof on the top.Posted in: Suggestions
So how would you make shingles or tiles for sloped and pointed roofs?

And you'd get 3 shingles which are placed in a manner similar to stairs.
The cobblestone would give you a slate roof. But you could also have some alternates as well. Iron could give a sheet-metal roof, bricks could give clay tile roof, wheat a thatch roof, etc.
Other features of the placed roof pieces are no-spawning, and a tendency for things and mobs to always slide down the slope when on them. Perhaps some materials could be more slippery than others. So they might have some usable game mechanic features as slides and ramps instead of just for looks.
And in case you don't have two separate / and \ meeting at the middle of where you want to build your roof because it's only 1 block across...
A center peak piece*:

*(Unless you've got a good way of checking for adjacency of similar upward sloping tiles on both sides and automatically making a center peak when a regular shingle is placed, in which case a separate special piece would be unnecessary. And if more cleverly designed, they might even "auto-magically" do corners for pyramid shapes...) - To post a comment, please login.

It should definitely be difficult to craft of on these blocks, and perhaps once it is placed it cannot be picked up without being destroyed. This would keep people from bringing one with them when exploring caves.
If a few of these blocks were placed underground, it would permit making areas where it is safe to be out at night (Without torches), and it would make it easier to create a safe spawn area in SMP.
Possible crafting recipe:

D=Diamond R=Redstone
