Lessee.... After spending a little too much time building my semi-permanent shelter, I decided to see what was in the cave nearby. Found some lava, and took out a skeleton and a creeper attempting to sneak out behind me. Unfortunately I turn around to see a creeper... and it explodes at point blank range taking me down to half a heart. I guess what I read about Creepers oneshotting players in full enchanted diamond armor are almost true (I had no armor, and had an iron sword as my weapon).
I bet everyone else has had longer adventures as I've only just started playing the game, but some of you have been playing for years...
I've yet to experience this in Minecraft unless they can hack their way into the Single player game. But every game has them. Some games make it more easier to do than others. The only game I know of where a lot of griefing tactics are accepted is EVE Online. I'm guessing that game is way too hardcore for griefers to exist in, so they go to games like Minecraft where they find it much easier (because players have fewer options to retaliate).
Hmmm... well, I'm a NEW player. Just bought the game. The dumbest thing I did? Roam the countryside at night armed with a wooden sword instead of building a shelter.
Now, thanks to a few videos on Youtube, I look for a cobblestone wall and make a hidey hole for the night while gathering loads of cobblestone that night to make a shelter the next day (I hear it's tough against those green exploding creatures).

As for which video lured me in, it's this...
From there I got the demo, and finally purchased the game a few days ago. T_T
