    Quote from Strahan202»

I played it years ago. Building the ship was fun, but the rest of it wasn't particularly impressive. I should try it again and see how much it has come along.

Can you recommend any good ship building videos for Starmade? When a game features the ability to build your own custom ships (Galactic Civilizations II comes to mind) it's guaranteed to get my attention.

    I'm sure experiences will vary.

As for the Mega Maid, as I recall Starmade has long-range mining lasers, aye? Use them to make a planet-sucking vacuum cleaner.

That would be for the setting that removes atmospheres. How about the setting that puts the atmosphere back?

-sorry had to edit carefully as the original sentence/question I was going to use was kinda dirty...-

I see. Well... I'm still sorely tempted to recreate the Mega Maid from Spaceballs the Movie. Don't know if I can recreate the vacuum cleaner she was armed with... I'm not dizzy from playing it yet, though.

This Switch will surely fail!!! Long Live the PC Master... *COUGHCOUGHCOUGHURKPLZDNNTKILLME*...

In all seriousness, the Switch looks interesting. I'm very well aware that not all those screens we saw in the trailer are actually from the gaming machine (I'm not VERY critical about so called "in game footage" thanks to No Man's Sky). I'm kinda curious though... What are the specs going to be? Besides the Nvidia CPU or GPU that the machine will use? And do you think Nintendo will finally allow indie development on this new device?

Has anyone played it? I know it's been around for quite a while. I was attracted by the ship building aspect of this game but as of right now I'm like a fish out of boiling oil trying to learn this game. And is it worth buying during Early Access? And is that Star Made? Starmade? Or Star Maid? hmm...

posted a message on Are monsters supposed to spawn in the Mushroom Biome?

After a long break from the game I've returned to playing it. Found myself a mushroom biome to hang out in. However, one night I was touring the place and when I turned around a witch and skeleton spawned in. Nevermind finding zombies in a cave within the biome. Did something change while I was taking a break from the game?

posted a message on What would happen if I "create" Tutorial Mode Mockery?

Try not to take this TOO seriously. I'm just curious...

There are a few games out there that mock the player for choosing the game's "easy mode". Where you're treated like a kid by the game for choosing that mode. Where video game characters insult you if you choose Easy mode.

Now what if I create a game, but instead of an easy mode I put in a Tutorial mode instead? And then the characters in the game mock and insult the player for even choosing Tutorial mode? Would the hardcore players worship me for it? Would there be people who would take up their pitchforks and torches and chase me everywhere? Would other amateur and/or pro game developers look at me with pity, or do a facepalm? What do you think? :)

Maybe just like how our games are tied with the system we own, so are the SD cards?

posted a message on So what makes an indie game an "indie game"?

I would say "indie" is a term best used to describe the "mom and pop shops" of game development, small teams working on small budgets, hoping to grow their business and attract a publisher.

I like to think of indie developers in that way except for the last part. Especially in todays day and age where self publishing a game is easier. :)

posted a message on So what makes an indie game an "indie game"?

Nowadays the line seems to be blurred. Lots of indies seem to have gone mainstream and are really famous. And there's even one indie game that commands the price of an AAA game (though I don't think the game lives up to that pricing). So what do you think makes an indie game an "indie game"?

I like to think what makes the game an "indie" is who built it. The game would have to be developed by a group of game makers/designers who interact on equal footing outside of their areas of expertise, are not organized like a company is (no programming, art, human resource departments, etc). They build their game, playtest their game and market their game as well as making it (as opposed to a publisher who has its own dedicated advertising department).

So I imagine an indie studio as a group of programmers/artists who have pizza and 2 liter soft drinks in their offices who interact like a bunch of goofball friends, all in casual clothing.

Anyways, what do you think defines an "indie game"? :)

posted a message on Is the arena shooter poised to make a comeback?

Nah, that would considered a "top down" shooter due to its perspective.

I see. I always thought the definition was literal. Smash TV does take place in an arena. You have powerups that don't last too long, and you're pitted against a LOT of enemies)...

This is a bit off topic, but I'm curious. Is Smash TV considered an "arena shooter"?

posted a message on Dealing with video game hype

I enjoy No Man's Sky, but I also find that it's not the game I want but instead the game I expected. Years of triple A game hype followed by releases that made me wonder why I was excited for the game in the first place has left me with less of a desire to purchase such games (like Spore for instance which was only entertaining for an hour).

So share any tips about dealing with the video game hype train. Or discuss it. I can only offer one tip though...

If a publisher or a developer shows videos or makes claims about how amazing their game is but does not offer a demo of any sort (only media), I'd tone down that initial excitement a couple (or hundred) notches. Don't expect some great amazing game to come out of their efforts unless you can get your hands on a demo yourself. Heck... I don't even trust game journalists who have a preview copy but don't post video of themselves actually playing the game (as in them with game interaction device in front of the screen). I'm pretty sure those reporters were wined, dined, and given perks in order to give the game a more "favorable" light...

I kinda wonder now... will Subnautica suffer the same fate when it finally hits Version 1.0? And we're forced to have a cutefish (tentacle monster) as a pet??? :)
