Aug 25, 2012I want to see the other types dyed, too. Cosmetics aren't a reason to wear leather armor over diamond. Plus, it means there will be some new cool textures for iron and diamond to differentiate them when they're dyed.Posted in: Future Updates

Mar 15, 2012I believe there is one simple reason Nether Bricks should be made obtainable, along with some other new blocks. Dramatic lighting. The game mechanics of Minecraft, as it stands, makes it nearly impossible to practically create this effect. The dark blocks in-game are few, far between, and impractically difficult to obtain. Making things dark with lighting is impractical because it allows mobs to spawn, including creepers that will destroy your carefully crafted creations. The only solutions as it stands are texture packs, creative, and peaceful, none of which are very appealing for players like myself who enjoy building as well as gathering resources on SMP. Therefore, nether bricks should be easier to obtain, and new blocks like dark stone bricks, granite, etc. should be made easily obtainable, as well as lighter blocks such as marble, so that large dramatically colored structures can be built in all methods of play.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
Feb 28, 2012I have a better solution than taking fun away from a certain group of people by nerfing or not nerfing golem grinders. Why don't they just give people a reason to turn away from iron? Give some new great adventure for people to embark upon, a new resource or technology that can give you an edge. Minecraft is built upon the "thrill of the chase," that feeling of adventure when you kill a dozen creepers on Hard with your fists or construct a brilliant contraption. God how I wished there was a reason to stay through the night upon the release of beds, but then the Minecraft team pulled through and added XP and enchantments. With the skill and genius in the Mojang team, they can do the same for iron quite easily.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
Feb 27, 2012I suppose I could have worded this better. My point is that arguing about the true feel of minecraft is pointless and a detriment to discussion. It gets brought up to the point of drowning out legitimate discussions, and often derails threads to the point that nothing is being discussed anymore. Minecraft does have a very certain feel to me, but I'm not going to allow that to cloud my view of new features that will build upon the overall theme. Neither should anybody. I'm just trying to improve discussion in the forums, and if I can prevent just one derailed thread I will be happy.Posted in: 1.1 Update Discussion

That doesn't mean that this shouldn't be included into minecraft, this only means a friendly "hey till it's official in minecraft maybe in some years, you can use this till then". :wink.gif:
The problem with "there's a mod for that" isn't that it's telling somebody about a mod, it's that if someone made a thread outlining a detailed, well thought-out suggestion, they almost certainly already know about a popular mod for it. It nearly always fails to inform anyone of anything, and is therefore pointless and annoying.

People who have that opinion often have a point. Some ideas are just too different to work well in Minecraft. It really depends on how specific it is. Usually game mechanics get this argument more than other suggestions.
You have to understand that people want to play Minecraft roughly the way it currently plays. They don't feel comfortable if your idea changes a lot of how the game works/feels. Your idea may be how you want to play Minecraft, but it's not how they want to play Minecraft, and within reason you should respect that. That doesn't mean they always have a valid argument.
I put this here because it only really comes up here.
I respect that people want minecraft to play the way it currently plays. The problem is that everybody sees that differently. The argument that something shouldn't be included in the game because it doesn't fit the "feel of Minecraft" is subjective, and can't be truly discussed in a reasonable and logical way. It also leads to the derailing of otherwise great threads, which prevents this forum from being properly used.

Upon every single update, there is always a plethora of threads in the discussion section complaining about how something does not fit in with the "feel" of Minecraft. These arguments are usually always poorly-worded and close minded. To some people, Minecraft might be a simple fantasy game. Some people see Minecraft as a mining, combat, survival game. Some people see it as a building game. Some people see Minecraft as a low-tech fantasy world, while others see it as a world teeming with potential for industry. Perspective on the feel of the game are wildy varied, but one thing is clear; arguing about the feel of Minecraft is just as silly as arguing about the feel of the real world. All evidence is circumstantial by nature. So please, stop. The creators will do what they please, and you always have the option to ignore it. Arguing something doesn't fit the feel of minecraft is as annoying and pointless as saying "There's a mod for that" in the suggestions forum.

Those things aren't always seen. It's not dragons, endermen, mooshrooms, or snow golems. Those are rare or man-made. It's the terrain generation. The idea behind it is great, and I love how the new biomes are all distinct from one another. But what is the issue? What makes everything feel the same? What would you guys change in the terrain generation? Reverting to pre-1.8 is not a good answer. Oct 18, 2011The ratio of value to rarity is really off when dealing with slimes. They have one of the necessary late-game drops, and they still spawn as if they were just a curious relic of a bygone age. Their spawning needs to somehow change.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
Sep 30, 2011There's just a few simple things that bother me about the game. Minecraft is a great game, there is no question about it. The $15 I spent on this game has given me hundreds of hours of entertainment. There are still some things that peeve me, and would require very little time for Mojang to tweak. If these issues weren't fixed, I wouldn't really give a damn; they are just pet peeves I've had since I got the game.Posted in: Discussion

Sep 24, 2011There's a difference between challenge and obtuse annoyance. Creepers, while I have issues with them not dying in the day, use their explosive ability as a weapon. Endermen just **** **** up without rhyme or reason. The game is punishing you, even if you are playing it the right way.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
I'm not saying Mojang should remove their block-removing capabilities. Quite the opposite. They need to not half-ass the game and come up with something fun and challenging. Endermen need to deal and take more damage when provoked. If they grabbed blocks to move you closer to them or trap you, they would be fun and challenging. Perhaps you like the idea of building defensive structures around your place. What if they were more like barbarian tribes who attack population centers for food? What if you could set up villages in Survival, sort of like in Terraria when NPCs move in? Endermen could only deliberately raid you when you have populations to defend. That would give so much more depth to the defenses you enjoy building. Surely it would be better challenge than replacing blocks from your house.
Aug 24, 2011I'm thinking it might be a bit like Terraria, so you can found your own village if you want to, but an NPC can build their own if you don't. I like the idea of being able to command a raid on another village with a few military NPCs as a way of controlling their numbers. I can also rest assured, no matter what, that the villages will be expanded upon by Mojang in the future due to their size and prominence in the game. Official Server to play on!All it would take to make a new dimension a fun survivalist area is a little bit of ingenuity. I see plenty of ways to make your diamond tools less useful, incentives to get there before you mine out diamond naturally, reasons why a simple cobblestone house won't work to defend you against the monsters, etc. Quit acting like it would be the end of the world if there was an optional mod to portal to the Wasteland from home.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
The challenge of making this mod work as an alternate dimension, as I said, would be to make your resources less useful and the ones from the Wasteland more useful. The way I see this working is to add in easier to obtain, yet still challenging, blast-resistant materials. The raiding mobs in the Wasteland would fire powerful weapons at you that could easily destroy most materials found in the normal world, making them useless as building materials. The ruins would be made of the blast-resistant materials, making the only useful shelter the ruins you have to explore to find.
The key to making tools useful in this world is the Compressor. This can be used like a furnace to make blast-resistant blocks and the tools that can destroy them easily. Once you find one in a larger ruin, you can begin to exploit the land, and also bring home some tools more powerful than diamond and reinforced stone and make a nice-looking, TNT-proof house.

Yes, it should still be appearing. I just loaded a new world with the World Gen Mod and found some ruins after walking for a bit.
Ruin spawns require a 7x7 flat area, and a lot of luck of the draw. Are you getting random fire spawns still?
Ok, thanks. I was just making sure. Fire is still spawning regularly.
