It's a great way to accelerate mining in general. At the point of the game where I have a beacon, I would have no interest in finding diamonds other than to renew my picks occasionally. But I would certainly use this combo to strip mine the shiz out of an area and get ridiculous amounts of stone real fast
For anyone who would still be looking for Enderpearls, an alternative would be to find a village that trades Eyes of Ender and just buy the needed amount. Since you are buying Eyes directly, you can even skip going to the nether to find a forteress and farm the blazes or whatever, if you don't like going to the nether (I know of a few people who find it tedious.)
Neither. But I guess I would tend toward towny if I had to choose. I prefer to play on servers were no plugins are needed and people simply "claim lands" and built cool stuff on it. Last time I went North from spawn, set up shop in a taiga and built a decent little base out there. Community was fun, but then they started talking about the plugins and including more and more mods that I felt were unneeded and pretty soon they asked me which faction I'd like to join. "Here have this base, fight over it or whatever, I'm outta here."
PS : The very notion of having fun in Minecraft PvP to me is completly alien. PvP just tends to be a very destructive hobby that gets people mad at each other and prevents me from building cooling looking stuff that people can appreciate looking at and exploring and instead hide in caves or whatever. The only PvP I would digest in Minecraft is stuff like Hunger Games, where you are released in a pre-made map and try to survive as long as possible against a bunch of other people and usually these games last like 1-2 hours. Like a deattmatch, only in the context of survival Minecraft.
A persistent server made to be built over the course of several months has no room for PvP. It just gets in the way of the main point of the game to me.
I built large bases on the surface of the overworld. They often look like castles or are indeed castles because I use a lot of stone. Details in the spoilers
I usually wander around the spawn to find an elevated postion or large flat expanse of land until I find a suitable spot. Water proximity is important I feel since I farm a lot of stuff and it needs to be hydrated. Then I built a small shack out of wood. I've been getting progressively better at making elaborated shacks but this is usually a temporary base. Something I can rely on until I've gathered the materials for a more permenant base.
This second base always ends up being made mostly out of stone bricks and have the look of a castle or fort. It will usually be surrounded by a rather large and expensive wall so that the inner courtyard is big enough to contain all the stuff I'll ever need. I don't like building in an extremely vertical fashion so my bases tend to occupate a large area. Currently my base I'm using on my latest world is probably the most elaborated I've ever built. I'm currently in the process of adding a tower that will contain the Nether portal. I've got a huge castle like structure which includes a storage tower, a crafting hall, a furnace room, a throne room, my bedchambers, a library and two additionnal rooms which have yet to be outfited, but will include an alchemy room. Found within the walls of my castle are my wheat, sugar canes, pumpkins, potatoes and carrot farms as well as sheep, cows and chicken pens and the initial shack, which has been converted into a grain storage house.
After completion of the Nether Tower, I'll be advenduring in there to acquire the necessities of a Nether wart farm and proceed to make the alchemy room fully operationnal. Once that is complete, I'll be pretty much done with all the useful structures for survival, so I'll be turning my eyes toward more decorative structures. This include retouching and polishing many of the existing structure and adding stables, a drinking hall, quarters for soldiers and guests and a temple which will also contain my beacon once I acquire it. The inner courtyard will also be completely redone so that what lies inbetween all these buildings is more interesting than a featureless plain full of torches.
Finally completed the walls of my castle, finishing touches are required for the gates and watchtowers but I'd say 95% of the job is done. I've run out of stone so I'm mining more and I'm also collecting obsidian to make my obsidian reinforced portal tower for my very first ever expedition in the Nether. Then I'm probably going to explore said nether until I've raided at least one fort.
No thanks. Minecraft isn't realistic in the least and should never thrive to be. Here's a reality check, why do you play video games instead of playing outside in the real world? That's right, because reality is BORING AS HELL. I'm quite happy to be able to chop down and regrow entire forests in a matter of a few in game days and carry around hundred of tons of stone and other raw materials thank you very much.
I think you can even buy books directly from the villages (and steal their bookcases of course :P) but it might take a while until you can get that trading option. Making loads and loads of books has becomed somewhat of a challenge as of late. I've got my cow farm running, but I want to make an entire library, not just a circle of 15 blocks and also put some bookcases in other places they make sense (like a bedroom or study)
So basically I've been farming cows for a while now. I've got enough steaks to host a banquet for Super Saiyans.
Lanning it up on a week end with half a dozen friends in the house and building something awesome in SMP until we drop dead from exhaustion are sadly reminded of reality by hunger, fatigue and responsabilities.
Haven't looked at Minecraft as a challenge since I've figure out how to micro them creepers. To me it's a huge awesome creative tool with the ocasionnal funny fail moment of failing in lava or getting double creeped or looking at too many enders at once.
But I play on normal mode mostly. That might have something to do with it.
Would also like to point out just to calm down my OCD about correcting stuff that is factually wrong on the internet, ladders are less wood intensive than fences, because every time you create 3 of them as opposed to 2 fences.
I personally don't care which of them I use in terms of ressources used or time spent farming the materials. Things have to look good and taking the proper time to ensure that is always the best solution. I rarely use vines to climb up and down places unless I'm in a jungle, at which point I just use the vines that naturally spawn and grow there, but I will often use vines for decoration. The spreading of vines is always something to consider. A Mineshaft made with them will quickly look like a huge mess.
There might actually be a way from me to use the Anvil to save up levels or materials... Not actually sure. Don't actually care. 30 levels is easy to acquire these days. I've got a full Enchancted Diamond armor set, 3 Fortune III Diamond picks and a bunch of other neat stuff. Just doing the routine stuff like breeding, mining, killing them slimes around my swamp, etc I get to level 30 in like an hour without even trying to. It's come to the point that I can't burn my stuff faster than I'm making it. I've also got like 4 villages scouted on my map so technically I could built trade relations with them until I get access to limitless diamond gear, should I ever run out of diamonds to mine so even materials are not a concern.
Really the only current use for my anvil is sitting in the middle of my forge room looking pretty and occasionnally renaming an item for flavor.
Ah okay. Then either I'm clearly underestimating the Jump Attack's damage, they are using hacks, or the Hunger games servers you play on have some sort of class/progression system/mods that allow people to deal more damage because they've been around for longer or have donated to the server. The last one is a very very real possibility and you should ask the admins if that is the case.
If they are wearing armor, it will reduce the damage they take from your attacks significantly. Otherwise they might just be using the sprint jump attack that does deal some extra damage to take you down. But even then, even if you are not wearing armor, a hit from a stone sword shouldn't take you down instantly if you are at full health. Enchanted swords also deal more damage, but you would notice the glow on it.

Don't know what version of Minecraft you've been smoking, but until the 1.4 release, I've never heard an Endermen do that.

They could be using hacks.
