if you want to make a style you don't often see, try limiting yourself. for instance, for one building i used only smoothstone, half blocks, and fences. it ended up looking vaugely asian, but at the same time, it was just different somehow. just experiment with stuff like that, that forces you to think about materials/blocks in new and unusual ideas. once you're used to taking fences, or even buttons, out of their normal roles, you can implement all of that in your regular building style, making it uniquely your own. or if you're too lazy to do any of that, try building in odd conditions that force you to be inventive, like on the side of a cliff, or maybe even hanging underneath a large overhang. failing all that, then maybe just try ethiopian architecture; http://artmundus.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/betgiorgis-1300-ad-church.jpg seems different enough for me.

so the terrain generator changes+that quote could mean he's changing biomes a little. or not. who knows?

not accusing you, but it's entirely possible he's just a troll, and his screenshot is just using a transparent mod thing for torches, if that's possible. i don't usually mess with mods. however, i don't see much reason for him to do that, so eh. i'll believe him for now.

dont do just an observation deck of that size. either it has to be huge and epic, or minimalist. in between, all it does is take away from the natural coolness of the mountain, in favor of something not as cool. so go big, or go home.

ok, just a guess. maybe you're texture pack doesnt have a texture for it yet. so then it will still be there, but just not visable. try scrolling over it. hope this helps.

dude, nice job! those are some nice builds, i especially like the towers. i'm actually also impressed that for only having ~8 posts, you posted a few respectable builds in the right section. not to say people with low post counts are always noobs, but i've seen enough posts made by new-ish people to notice a trend...but i'm getting distracted. congratz on making such cool buildings, posting in the right section, and welcome to the forums. i strongly advise you adopt an extremely cynical outlook on things and always excpect the worst, so you can be proven wrong maybe once a month. seriously, the community here sucks. just my two cents, nice job

well, i tend to explore a lot in minecraft, so whenever i find something interesting i make a warp to it. (i play on a server with some minor mods, such as warp/teleport). i have over 20 differant areas i consider cool, like this one;

so ill just be dropping a few pictures off here.

read a history textbook sometime. or just read up on world history. i DARE you guys, really this is a CHALLENGE, to name a time in history when there was both some form of human civilization and not some form of genocide, prejudice, hate crimes, etc. going on. there will always be some form of hate/fear/mistrust/phobia against a specific group of people simply because they're differant. every period in history follows a pattern; at first, said hate/mistrust is generally accepted, so much so that its not even realized to be an injust hate. the subjects of that hate arn't even human anymore, they're animals. (ironic since humans themselves are animals...but thats a differant subject). the rest of the cycle could happen many differant ways, such as near total extermination to that hate really just completely going away. i would say the hate of this era that is largely unnaddressed and tucked aside in corner, not even recognized actually, is homosexuality. its obviously not as large scale or infamous as the holocaust, or slavery, or anything like that. but, we do have the start of a nice little genocide here, so its not exactly just some minor issue. and, finally; this post is very off-topic and i don't approve your posting it, and seriously. the little quotes take a lot away from your actual point, and i almost didnt take you seriously because of them. like really, just stop. its not cool, be couth. (an aside; i am not sure whether being gay is a choice or not, and i will not comment on my opinions about it untill i've seen some form of proof, one way or the other. no studies, to my knowledge (somewhat limited, true) have been conducted, and if they have, i urge someone to call me on this and post it. it'd be nice to know)

oh, crap!! i've posted in a troll post D:!!! this comment is obviously designed to elicit a reaction, the OP doesn't give a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about smp. and if did, he wouldn't have said that, as that will obviously start a huge flame war that has nothing to do with smp. if you read this and think "oh no! i'm gonna do my job as a patriotic citizen and defend my country!", don't. you're wasting your time, and bumping a troll thread. your'e last question is not pertinant to the statistics. or, more likely, your statistics do not pertain to your question. a better one would have been "is it worth having to type in "vanillia", in addition to "minecraft servers", in order to avoid griefing?". also, mods does not necesarilly mean protection, although yes, it often does. but the server i play on, for instance, has a simple forum to sign up on, it takes 2 minutes, and then you can do whatever the hell you want. so really, your statistics on mods are not relevant. also, in my opinion, it would be harder and more frustrating to build if your stuff is constiantly being griefed than have to sit through a couple days initiation period. (which is not something i approve of, by the way). and lastly, i don't hate you, because i don't know who you are. (i am also gonna ignore the smp/ssp comment, as that is just like saying "a whale's flipper is far from a mole's snout", at least in my opinion)

well, its pretty crude, but TNT actually launches falling sand. so you could do the rough equivalent to this:

destroy the bottom sand block, hit the TNT, and as the sand is falling in front of it, it will explode, launching the sand...doubt it'd be helpful though. good luck
