posted a message on What do you think of the ending?
so simcity 2000 has an end?

    and minecraft too?

    i'm a little disappointed.
i haven't seen it, but now i'm going to look through the data files to look at it.
i never had a desire to "WIN" or get to the end of the game.
i was just building stuff and having a good time.

and next i'm going to go dig up the old box of simcity and look for the ending on that, too.

A derivative work--a collaboration at that! This is awesome. Though I just heard of it (and havent tested it), I'm certain the combined efforts of enthusiasts way outdoes my solo capabilities fifty fold--

Yes, I'm still alive--but with the job back in--february was it? and the billions of updates released every other day back then, my solo efforts at dev and support were ... quite pointless. To see something come out of it like this is a real treat!

As a sidenote, to increase the legitimacy of your developmental works--if you need hosting for your bugtracker/forums etc---I can replace the ones I used to host, letting you guys administer it from a moderator POV. Let me know! It's fantastic to see that my labors have endured and been enhanced over the months!

thank you for getting this started, and for being that last straw that got me to try virtual machines.
i have been like a madman since and actually got a windows 98 version running with 3D graphics support for those old games that i never had the heart to throw away, and are now coming back down off the bookshelf and into the computer.

thank you, and i am glad to see you are still among us.

    an update on this.

this map is in the old format, however if you put it in a world folder of its own and have the game translate it into the new format you can then transfer it over to your map area for your server and use this for multiplayer.

i put in a forest of trees for a wood source and there are plenty of waterfalls so that you have irrigation for growing crops.
there is also enough grass that animals like cows , sheep and chickens will spawn.

    amazing stuff.
this is an example of what you can do in a truly "open sandbox" kind of game.

many thanks to notch for making this possible, and much respect to you for doing this inside notches game.

good job and i will now be checking the minecraft sky out much more thoroughly than i have in the past.

thank you for taking an already fascinating game and making it even more interesting with this idea of sky-watching.

    well done.

for those running plain vanilla, there is a recent fix that allows it to run.
i downloaded it and i can now place blocks without crashing the game.
the one i have running bukkit is still not running however.

here is a wikki page with server updates for minecraft.
    not bukkit, minecraft.

    http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history#Beta

    P.S.
the update server files button in the web server for mineos did the update just fine with no other attention from me.
    nice.

very nice that it works that way.

I get similiar errors any idea why?

If you get this error, then it means that you have been banned for unauthorized use of the Craftbukkit plugin. If you had been following the news, then you'd know that Notch has bought Bukkit.org and installed a puppet government to rule the minecraft universe. You have to comply to the new standards of Notch or you will get banned from using Craftbukkit ever again. These standards include:

    1. Making a statue of Notch in your backyard or porch.
    2. Buying a puppy and naming it Notch.
    3. Stand on your head while singing your national anthom on a live webcam. (don't worry, notch will be watching)
    4. Clean up your room.
    5. Start the minecraft server with the following arguments "java minecraft_server.jar -I -am -pretty -dumb -X10"

Then after 10 days of use, you have to register for the new Premium minecraft account, which costs 120 dollars monthly.

    hehehehe. :wink.gif:

    oh good.
for a minute i thought something was wrong.

actually i think the reason nobody is taking this panic thread seriously is that it's fairly common for software updates to break hmod or bukkit or any of the other mods that are out and about.

relax, go play "world of tanks" and wait for the creative minds to work something out.

A nice little thing, but I have one little "grief" with it, a hickup that I would like a solution to.
Some way to easily dump files via network into the server.
This could be new plugins that you have downloaded for bukkit or a new world.
Presently there is no easy way of doing it, either a simple FTP setup or regular file sharing.
Any good things that can be achieved on this matter?

you probably already tried it, but i use filezilla to access through the sftp server that is already built into the mineos+ package and running.

    http://filezilla-project.org

but my needs may be much simpler than yours and this will only work for simple minded, dull witted folks like myself.

there is a new minecraft server build, so new things could be happening.

i am sure that this is not a mineos+ problem, but i'll post a log dump anyway so that if anyone else is getting this they can see my post here and know that they don't have to post about it.

what i see here, and i am quite ignorant and only guessing, is that the server started up just fine, plugins loaded ok, and then i tried to log in three times and waited a while and tried to log in a forth time.

this is on a world that i had setup and had running just fine before i clenched my teeth and decided to upgrade the server.
i knew the job was dangerous when i took it, so when things suddenly went fizzle end up i was not upset.

if anyone is out there thinking of hitting the upgrade server files button, i would recommend not doing so quite yet.

posted a message on [MAP] start with spawn set at bedrock
i always found myself wanting to get to bedrock right away.

so i have a map that starts you there.

    http://www.mediafire.com/?8hkc9l4mkbt2bfv

here is the readme file in the zip file

set up your server and make sure all of your plugins [if you have any] are configured as you like and then shut down your server.
even if you have no plugins and are runing pure vanilla run it first to build the directory structure.

unzip into the same folder that world folder is in.
rename world to worldold, or delete world folder.
but in anycase be sure there is no world folder.
rename spawn at bedrock folder to world so that it becomes the only world folder in this location.
there are a few chests near spawn with goodies in them.
you may or may not wish to leave them there.

this starts you out at bedrock level and sets spawn there.
it will work with a multiplayer or a single player setup.

this map made with minecraft beta version 1.2_02

So, I've got enough burnable income to either buy an SSD or max out my RAM, but I'm unsure of which would actually help improve the server. I'm leaning towards the RAM because MC is a memory hog. I'm also guessing that even though the SSD would be fast, it would still be limited by my Internet bandwidth. What do you guys think?

    the ram.
    go with the ram.
more ram means less time in the swap file, even if it is solid state disk it's still faster if it stays in the ram.
