It's also a crime against Minecraft. The solution is to move away from the swamp.
I beg to differ - reducing the spawn rate of one mob does not steer gameplay from vanilla. If you say that is a crime, then you are accusing almost every mod ever made as a "crime against Minecraft." If you don't want to modify the game, then don't. I'm not asking for a change in the vanilla game.
Mobs cannot spawn on ice, glass, and slabs.signs, water, torches, redstone torches, glowstone, leaves, pistons, chest, tilled soil, stairs, ladders, fences, cakes, beds, doors, redstone repeaters, trap doors, rails, levers, pressure plates, buttens, enchantment tables, cactus, suger cane, crops,(breathes in),mushrooms, saplings, and lava.a few may be wrong but i think allmost all of thoes blocks mobs cant spawn,so basicly cover the area in thoes kinds of blocks, light it,fence it in,and your good.....
Half-slabs everywhere. Nothing will spawn on a half slab. Either that or a 2 block high wall or a 2 block wide/deep ditch around it. Or....cacti. Cacti everywhere. See what those squelchy blocks of liquid annoyance think of that!
(I didn't used to mind slimes. Then they spawned in swamps. I always find swamps....the squelching is damned near constant....*shivers*)
I don't believe I'm going to go THAT far, as to COVER the around ~50,000 blocks of surface I have around my village and in my village, with any of those blocks (that'll make the landscape look hideous, just for the sake of preventing slime spawns). Finding a mod that modifies spawn patterns / spawn rates would be much more simple. However I am unexperienced in making mods and I can imagine making such a mod isn't simple.
Excuse me if I am wrong but I believe smiles still spawn in light... I just remember lighting up smile chunks like crazy to decrease other hostile mob spawn rates. My choice for reducing smile annoyance was always just to simply not build in that area. If you already have I would, if I were you, probably move pending on how far along you are.
Thanks for the tips for uses of slime balls. However, by the time 1.4 rolled around I was quite far in the game, nether well explored, mined about 50 diamonds so far. I really like where my village is set and I have 10 chests full of assorted items. I only recently got back into the game when 1.4.7 released. I don't plan on moving, and generously lighting up the surrounding area does not make a difference; they still spawn during the night time.
Not sure whether this should go in Suggestions because this is an idea for a mod, not for vanilla.
ANYWAY, as we all know slimes now have a supposedly rare chance of spawning in Swamp biomes at night since 1.4. I've had my main world set in an NPC village that's in a Swamp biome, and once 1.4 came around, slimes have spawned EVERYWHERE. And won't stop! I'm starting to get REALLY annoyed of slimes constantly smashing my crops and group assaulting me into walls. Also, that wet slapping noise which was once music to my ears while spelunking is now incredibly obnoxious.
I can't seem to find a mod or instructions to reduce spawn rates, but I'd really like to find out how. Do any of you fine gents and she-gents know of a way to reduce the spawn rate of slimes in Swamps? If not, the suggestion is out there. Thanks
I've had an FPS problem ever since I've started using shaders around 1.5 Beta up until now. For the first day or two (real life time), the shaders have no significant issues. Eventually, though, Minecraft freezes up within 15 minutes of launching the game and the FPS drops to 0 or 1 and will not recover. Java.exe's memory usage shoots up from around 700 mb to 1.9 - 2 GB, and I'm always left with no choice but to force close. Then I would play again and the same issue would occur, within 15 minutes. I have installed OptiFine, and I have tried putting all video settings, animations, and particles at minimum, fast, OFF, etc., or as low as they go. The problem would still persist.
Computer specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz
4GB RAM, 32-Bit Windows 7 Ultimate
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 560 Ti 1GB Video Card
My monitor is only 17" and I never run Minecraft maximized or in fullscreen anyway. Thanks in advance for your help, fellows

Hey everyone. I have a suggestion for Jacob Diamond - since he built a big ugly creeper home with a big-ass creeper flag next to the village that's quite ugly, I discussed a bit of lore with doop11 on Jake's Origin.
What if there was an anonymouse science corporation, that aimed to create a superhuman to fend off creepers? What if an experiment went wrong, and the lab blew up? Out of the smoke, a mutant stumbles upon the iron blocks of the facility. Once a human, still a human -- but the right side of his figure was green, boiling with sores, and steamed as a creeper does. The right side of his face is frowning. He is missing his right eye. He can still talk, but heats up VERY easily. He cannot go too near anyone, or a boil would pop, causing him great pain. Jacob Diamond goes to live by himself, and meets a creeper that he got along with. They fall in love (ew, right?) and a new civilization arises.
That's just my take on Jacob's big ugly fat creeper house that ruins the landscape next to the village at Spawn.
No offense, Jake, bud, I love you still! Wish I had at least one class with you this year :sad.gif:
In Game Name (IGN): Leonaut

Why you want to join: Because if denied, I will kill you and murder you and eat your unborn babies and kill you again. I will glue you back together in Hell and kill you more. And don't forget the part that I'm your best friend ever.
Recommendations (Plugins): Parkour or some **** and a tracking plugins to see what people do to track block-griefers, a stable NPC plugin (I understand this is an unrealistic suggestion), and maybe a good war plugin if we don't have one. And a caravan plugin. NPC plugins to get - NPCx, NPCtrader, Citizens.
Character Description: A knight and traveling merchant who goes by Leo. He was raised by an old retired knight and never knew his parents. Being in his 20's, he hopes to find out much about his ancestry throughout his life. He was trained and excels at archery, hunting, fishing, and housekeeping. He helps with traveling caravans and knows the surrounding deserts well. Though he may get angry easily, he enjoys company and a small and quaint life.

I'm trying to start an SMP server, and I don't understand what I'm doing wrong...it still says this when my java isn't even running. Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm not asking them to be taken out of the vanilla game, so I'm not ruining anything.
