posted a message on MineCraft Texture Manager - Pre-Alpha Mockup
Behold! Mock-ups of the yet to be built MineCraft Texture Manager!

What I envision is a program wherein one can easily change their texture packs, or mix and match if they so choose. On the primary page (picture [1]) you can decide what you want to alter by choosing it from the list. Alternatively, you could click the cell on the terrain.png, which would bring up the appropriate entry. Note that the terrain.png we see would change as you alter your textures with the program, giving you a live update of what your terrain.png will be. If you click one of the entries, for example, grass, it will bring up the appropriate window (picture [2]) where you can choose from a list of loaded textures. How this process works exactly is of course yet to be fully conceptualized and is open to input. After you've chosen some textures, you could go to the visualizer (picture [3]) which will render some scenes using the textures you have chosen so that they can be easily seen together. This visualizer could alternatively be run as an external program which would show live changes to your terrain.png so that artists could see what their textures will look like in-game immediately.

I foresee several possible stages of development:

Stage 1: No visualizer. Users are able to choose from the list and edit their textures. We could have a standardized format (*.mctm) that an artist could release their pack in for easy loading.

Stage 2: With visualizer. Users can edit their textures and easily see what their changes will look like in game.

Stage 3: Transition to "MineCraft Texture and Mod Manager". The program also allows users to load custom mods, such as sound packs, or using custom .class files (for example, for the Better Grass mod).

The MineCraft Texture Manager is a project that I feel will be very useful to the MineCraft community. Unfortunately, I can only program in AutoItScript. My ability is somewhat limited both by my knowledge and by the language I am familiar with. Therefore, I am hoping that some of you will be interested in assisting with this project.

If this is something you feel you would be capable of being an addition to, please post in this thread or contact me via PM. If you have ideas or constructive criticism, please post it here so that, if this project goes anywhere, we know what the users want.

    What do you think?

I have yet to see him post that without it being highly relevant. This forum is spammed too often with meaningless drivel, and without pics, it remains so.

Pics or it didn't happen. Or if you prefer, pics or gtfo. Nobody cares if you found a cave. Post something exciting.

Using a flat color texture pack may help a little bit.

It won't, I'm sorry to say. The computer is still rendering the same amount of data regardless.

posted a message on MineCraft - Subtly Painted - v1
If you like the feel of the original MineCraft but want some subtle improvements, this is for you.

    DOWNLOAD: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2298077/Lemures ... ted-v1.rar

This is the collection of modifications that I use and personally enjoy. I like the look and feel of the original MineCraft, but I feel that some things can use some improvement. After several hours of work, I finally have MineCraft in a state that I highly enjoy.

This pack keeps the original terrain textures, with a few subtle changes from Kas's Painterly Pack. All credit for the non-original textures goes to their respective owner's. For example, I use the Painterly Pack's wool, sand, bedrock, half steps, cacti, red/yellow flowers, glass, tree sprite, and a few others. The look of MineCraft remains but with subtle changes. This pack uses Painterly's boats and minecarts, as I like the look of them.

This pack uses Painterly's monsters (black spiders, as they are closer to the original), mobs (with the special needs pig because I find it so entertaining), and the duck. The QUACKPACK is included so the sounds match the model.

This pack uses the Better Grass mod, which I feel makes the land look prettier.

This pack uses a custom high quality moon and high quality sun. (I don't remember where I got them from.) It also uses Painterly's clouds.

This pack uses Painterly's armor; I used to use the original armor because I don't like large changes, but I've recently become accustomed to Painterly's armor and find it to be a good change.

This pack uses roughly half of the original inventory icons and half of the Painterly pack's. I simply went through and combined them, using whichever icon for each item that I liked the best.

This pack uses custom gui changes. The furnace and inventory backgrounds are from the Painterly pack, WITHOUT the blueprints (so it looks more like the original). I have taken Painterly's wooden container and crafting backgrounds and desaturated them and adjusted the contrast; I really like the way they look. They feel like the original's, but with some texture.

This pack uses Painterly's icons for health and armor (as they are more vivid) but I have kept the original MineCraft crosshair instead of the box that Painterly's pack uses.

There are a few other subtle changes that I may have forgotten while writing this. However, the general look and feel of the original game is maintained, but with subtle improvements from Kas's Painterly Pack and a few other things.

Please let me know what you think. Also, don't forget to check out the threads for the modifications that I have used.

I personally feel that the majority if the changes made in this "mod" are for the worse, not for the better.

But hey, if it's what you like, more power to you; it's your game, have fun with it!

posted a message on Do you have difficulty holding sneak/crouch?
I've seen a lot of posts where people indicate that they want sneak/crouch to be toggle, due to difficulties holding the button. Personally, I encounter no difficulties in holding a button while performing other tasks, and would like to know whether or not I'm alone in this regard.

(Yes, I realize the choices are odd.)

Note: You aren't voting on whether or not you want it to be toggle! Only whether or not you have difficulty holding the button. I don't have difficulty, but I can see the merit in it being toggle, but I still chose "No".

posted a message on sneakbridging: Building bridges just got easier than pillarn
I'm just going to be blunt and in no way creative.

The entire reason people were asking for crouching/sneaking (in the manner implemented) was so that they could build bridges without falling off.

    This post is dumb.

That doesn't really answer my question. What would you do? Though this is arguable, I feel that the entire point of MineCraft is the advance, and to affect the world around you, and revel in that. You'd be missing out on that entirely by playing around on somebody else's save. Anything accomplishment you may have would be marred by the knowledge that you built upon somebody else's achievement. At least, that's how I would feel. *shrug*.

posted a message on Newbie - What do you do at dark
I'm honestly at a point where I make no differentiation between day and night. I have large test areas (covered in a gird of torches, and most areas surrounded by fences) that are safe day and night. I just mine for materials, or go build new contraptions in my test areas. Day/night makes no difference.

However, during the start of the game, I mine at night, harvest wood/wool/meat/hide/sand/clay during the day.

posted a message on Your personal favorite texture packs?
Personally, I prefer using (most of) the original textures. But I spiced up the rest of my game by using Painterly's mobs and clouds, as well as a few of his textures. I also put on a new moon and high quality sun.
