I would like to be able to set terrain generation values, such as the chances of a jungle, ect. Right now, I have WAY too many worlds where there is a jungle. It's like new biomes are shoved in our face when I really am just fine with them. Biome borders look absolutely awful at times, especially with a swamp. When you going into more world options, there should easily be a way to let players assign or set a percentage in which a basic biome such as jungles, forest, deserts, ect. can show up, A 0 would mean it's absent in the world, and all 0's in this would equal to a random world with anything. Setting everything at an equal number, or having certain biomes with a smaller number than others means it has less priority or chance of showing up. This way, players can't force certain biomes that are rare such as mushroom biome or hell (If the Nether can even generate on the overworld anymore) to show up, they're still a wild card.
What this would do is ensure we can MAKE a world be unique compared to our other worlds. I go through 30-40 worlds in 15 minutes on random generation to find one I may like. Not just biomes, but the terrain itself can be bland. I like having hills, ravines, and mountains show up. I hardly see mountains, which doesn't bother me too much, but it's the fact it seems the game already has certain values set up already, why not allow us to edit those so we can make a world we actually like, not hate?
I honestly missed mono-biome maps like we use to see in Alpha. The terrain itself, I really don't miss, but I really miss having a charming world that doesn't look like a complete jamfest of biomes right next to each other, and that's what I dislike about most Minecraft maps right now.
I think a feature like this would allow players to meet in the middle. Those who like this type of generation don't have to lose out on it, and those who don't have the option to change things.
"vocabulary-rich" ~even i wasnt sure if that was supposed to be an insult or a compliment when i typed it. i understand what youre saying, you just make it sound a bit too stuck-up by the way you do. sorry, i get that some people are just like that...
"one-sided" ~well, you DO act pretty one-sided. you continue to restate facts, theres no doubt there, but you restate ones that people have already argued against. you just happen to restate them with a different wording...
i still think you need to relax a bit. maybe wait until your intestines arent in so much of a knot to post again? you seriously sound like you very subtly hate the world right now. just sayin'.
I like how you made great points related to the thread's topic.
I <3 the people here that are posting doomsaying and other crap.
Let's put it in this format. I'm reporting a bug. The new system is buggy as crap because SMP is buggy as crap. Are you going to hate me because it's a snapshot meant for bug reporting? Of course you will because you see negativity and think it's inherently bad, evil, and no sense to come from it. Sure, I'd give Mojang more time to work out the SMP bugs, except they've had since the release of Alpha to do so.
The new system in theory is a good idea, but I would've much preferred they fixed and flushed out SMP way before this. Tie one shoe at a time, Mojang.
@SVen-I've had the hardcore bug. Does that mean I'm a filthy liar or prehaps I'm just one of those who have encountered the bug? I sure hope you choose the first and I am included in your doomsaying rants. I could write about it in my diary later.
The only thing I disliked, and I'm the first to bash Mojang, which I won't because this was a good change (Even if it took 2 minutes) was that they didn't actually change slabs stairs, or whatever to change colors based on the base block.
In short, they pulled a Mojang and rushed something without completing it all the way through.
I really enjoy the new wood textures we've got. I'll be the first to bash Mojang or whatever bad updates or whatever, but that's not what I'm doing.
My ony issue... Is that everything craftable by wood (Stairs, slabs and plates) are still the old texture, no matter the wood used. It's no big deal, but I certainly hate how my house doesn't even have matching colors. If Mojang released the wood like this, I really thought they'd also update the textures on these items. Pity, really.
Oh well. Hopefully next patch we'll see the recolor.
I could see Dwarves living underground and building up to raid an Enderdragon. I would say the first day on the surface is your "break" day to gather wood and saplings as well as wool for a bed. Otherwise, water and lava would be a dwarf's reasoning to go out mining to find them. But so long they go out at night they could easily gather supplies and hunt.
-Cave Dwelling creaturess would only logically come out at night. You can set up a sun roof or a block to check if it's light out.
-Many would probably bring animals to their tunnels to breed and eat for food. Dwarves wouldn't live off bead alone and would enjoy a good steak or pork chop.
-Swords wouldn't be used. Axes are a dwarf's best friend.
Think of it this way:It is a finished project on many fronts. Some parts of the game are either being worked on or unfinished. The core gameplay is finished-There are things being implented along the way, such as monster AI updates or the new additions to villages that are done. If you bought the game, it is finished (So to speak). Just a lot of updates and content patches that may or may not be finished are released.
Closest possibility to modding would be something like the Rock Band Network setup. And that's pretty long and tedious for song approval and the money isn't always nice in the end versus the time and money put into it.
Don't assume the entire Xbox community are a bunch of stupid kids who are gun and killing fanatics,(Even though most of it is)
The stupid kids will be too pre-occupied playing MW3 to be playing Minecraft anyways.
Also what's the difference between Griefers from the Xbox community and the griefers on the PC? They should both be dealt with the same.
Think positive, don't think about the new griefers who have a slight possibility of joining your server, but rather the new players joining and the new opportunities it could bring - Not all of us "Xbox fanboys" are gun crazed retards.
In short - Griefing is griefing, regardless of the console and don't worry about the slightest things which you might encounter already.
The issue doesn't even have to deal with the community. What do you do when a 360 player joins a modded up server/customized server? I've actually never seen what happens when an unmodded client joins a modded client on PC. Plus I'd imagine the server client may/may not have some more issues dealing with Xbox Live and cross platform. Maybe some players don't want to bother with the latency issues that could result?
If I hosted public and there would be that issue, I would indeed like an option to exclude xbox clients simply because of the hassle it could have server side. If not, I personally wouldn't care who played-But the option should still be present in any case to prevent cross-console for both platforms. It doesn't have to be a fan-boy/console war reasoning.
With the new AI that mobs will be getting soon, they will become much harder to kill because they will be smarter.
AI has nothing to deal with the fact I can kite them without any obstacles or face-to-face destroy them because I have superior mechanics. AI has little to deal with the player mechanics such as crits and pushback.
I don't know how people died with armor 1.0, maybe by falls but that's all I could think of.
People still die in combat? The last time I died was fighting fire ogres in Mo' Creatures. Not even MC vanilla content.
Once more, to whoever stated mob strength is increased-It makes no difference. Pure strength does not balance the utility of the combat system available to players. Sure they can hit for 5 hearts, but you're not doing a good job of keep-a-way, charging to knock them back, or killing them efficently with criticals. The system itself makes combat boring. I feel like I should be playing an Elder Scrolls game on easy mode with the difficulty on hard in MC.
Minecraft combat is still horrifically broken. Armor made no difference to me-As long as you keep even a small amount of attention to your surroundings, you areoverpowering everything with the combat system. Even with wooden and stone grade weapons, you can kill anything and at least hold Endermen at bay. Armor was a petty excuse for people to complain about and that's my own opinion.

How did you die in vanilla Minecraft, period?
I'll say I've fallen in lava and cliffs before when I did drunk minecraft. I'm not afraid to live and screw around in my video game.
